SSF needs a coach

The once-dominant South San Francisco High School football program is searching for a new head coach. Again. The most recent walk-on mentor, Dion Evans, announced his departure (or lack of a re-hire) via Twitter this week. The Warriors' program has fallen so far in recent years that a varsity could not be fielded in fall 2021. Interest in the student body is minimal. The JV team, with Evans as the boss, won one game. Now the question becomes: Will SSF be able to field a varsity in 2022? The signs are not encouraging.

St. Francis-MV beat Leland 55-32: St. Francis led 23-16 before outscoring Leland 21-8 in the third.

NCS Rebuild

After watching the 2021 season, my takeaway is this… It is still De La Salle and Pittsburg ahead of everyone else. Maybe more than ever. The two dismantled and humbled every NCS team they faced, and it took injuries and top opponents to beat them. The remaining NCS teams are pretty equal with each other, which is why I agree with the competitive equity playoff format proposed on another thread on this site. It will give other programs a chance to build back up to compete with Pitt and DLS.

It will be interesting to see how the off-season goes with new coaches around the NCS. Berean Christian, Deer Valley and Pinole Valley have head varsity jobs open, and word is Liberty will be open soon. It was a fun season though and look forward to what 2022 hs to offer.
