Riordan Defeats Monte Vista

58-57 Final score. Riordan makes the final score a nail biter by missing it's free throws in last minutes of game. Crusaders led by Stansberry and soph James Chun who led the 4th quarter charge with several 3's, elbow jumpers nifty assists and ball handling. Jason Smith dominated defensively in the paint and held his own against the MV bigs with several blocked shots and rebounds. Crusader D held MV at bay in the 4th creating several turnovers with their aggressive smothering defense. Team starting to get in sync in preparation for the WCAL grind.

Coaches vs Cancer tourney!

The final tonight will be a great game. North Syracuse has a pt guard that I'd put up against any other in the area. She destroyed Mitty last night just totally controlled the game.
Valencia was a surprise I must admit but play hard can shot the rock and just stay focused the whole game. Have a couple quality loss if their is such a thing to Chaminade by 11 and one to Sierra Canyon by 3.
Think that top bracket is right there with wcj.

Athletic Recruiting

https://www.pathlete.com/blog/athletic-recruiting-parents-are-the-coaches

The athletic recruiting process, more often than not, is a daunting process for parents and their children who desire the opportunity of competing in collegiate athletics. Early preparation and maintenance are key components to ensuring a successful experience rather than enduring a hasty and frenzied endeavor.

Academics should be at the top of any prospect’s set forth agenda. Identifying areas of academic weakness is a crucial step that must be taken before athletes enter into high school. As just recently announced by the NCAA, starting in 2016 prospective DI athletes are required to graduate high school upholding a minimum 2.3 GPA as opposed to the previous 2.0 GPA requirement. This of course, is in addition to the required completion 16 core curriculum courses that are to be completed by graduation, 10 of which must be completed before the senior year has even begun. Such criteria may seem over-bearing, but is in fact more than manageable if parents and children can foster a definitive action plan to divide and delegate these requirements early on.

Achieving this will allow parents and their athletes to allocate more of their time into improving academic performance without having to halt their progression later due to cluttered logistical balancing. The key point for parents to take away from this message is take the time to break down the final goal into stepping stone goals as early as possible – well before your child enters high school.

Team Thoughts from WJC

Couple of thoughts on the teams I saw yesterday:

Salesian is pretty young, but will be right there in the third tier of teams come February and March (First tier is St. Mary's Stockton. Second tier is Miramonte and Mitty). The third tier should have about 7-10 teams that can all beat each other on a given night. The Pride have a very good lead guard in Moore and numerous players who can apply pressure. Angel Jackson is already a solid post option and has a chance to be outstanding.

Sacramento has a lot of experience back and will have balanced scoring this year. Players like Hernandez, Brown and Turney are all good and they have some intriguing post players who could hit for a big game every now and then. I question if they have a closer to get them over the hump against a top team in the playoffs. Team could move into the Top 10 or fall out of the rankings. Lot of outcomes still out there for them.

Brookside Christian goes as McDonald goes. Depth is a big issue and their offense is what McDonald can get or create and easy points off turnovers. They will continue to compete and possibly beat top teams, but don't have the staying power of other top teams. I do reserve some judgment when the transfers come in.

Bishop O'Dowd is similar to Salesian, but a slightly better version. They have a really tough matchup in Myah Pace and a number of ball handler who can also apply pressure. I wonder how they will get consistent offense without a real shot maker on the team. Team always plays hard.

Antelope is more well rounded than I thought with Hawkins and Spann inside. Still a guard oriented team, but won't get killed inside. They have the shooting and can put pressure on defenses with the Johnsons and Baylon being able to work off the dribble. Not sure how this style and personnel plays against elite teams. Seems like they may have a ceiling, but that ceiling could still be high.

CIF STATE BOWL AT SAC RECAP

One wonders how southern calif High School teams keep generating that talent that in most cases, the North has to struggle when the North meets the south. But then you have Del Oro who didn't rise from the ashes, but just never quit...The team coached by Casey Taylor just kept the kids focused and proved that it can be done when things don't look too good. And then we have the battle royal between DLS and Centennial as the final game of the schedule where there was no let down and the Spartans just kept playing away until plays began to work in a hard fought game by both teams to finish off a five game playoff.
Del Oro.....07.....03.....00.....06.....16
Camarillo..00.....00.....06.....07.....13
A tough defense kept the Cam team from doing any thing until the second half, but in the mean time it was Mason Hurst' 58 yard run that jump started the Golden Eagles and again it was the DO defense that really came thru, as this was a team effort as every body came to play..
.
Bells...................00.....00.....00.....00.....00
Mission Viego....00.....12.....12.....00.....24

When the Diablo's, took the opening kickoff and went to work on the Bells left side , racking up three first downs in a row...At the time, it didn't seem like the beginning of the end, but it was a story of things to come as the Bells could never get their offense rolling until the second half, but that was only brief periods....when the first half ended, the Bells were minus 17 on running and minus 2 passing as Mission Viego' defense was stand up and kept the Bells off balance all day...It was one of those games where you ran into some one that had your number...

Narbonne.....07.....07.....14.....00.....28
CVC.............07.....00......07....00.....14

The Eagles opened the game with a 13 play 79 yard drive which included only one of two passes by Ken Peralta of 29 yards and the hard running of Jackson that gave CVC their first score...but with out CVC' first and second string QB out, it was up to Peralta to carry on the load, and he was a real work horse with one keeper after another and Jackson in between, plugging away, but it just wasn't enough as Narbonne's defense was up to the task and was holding the CVC offense to short yardage runs...but it was Jackson who broke thru the Narbonne defense with a 60 yard gallop that was the only high lite for the Eagles...For Narbonne, QB Roman ale Sean Riley and Denmark's combination that kept the Gaucho's on the move...Narbonne racked up 169 yards running, and 117 passing while CVC ran for 270 yards, but only 29 in passing and Jackson had 139 yards of the 270 that the eagle generated...

Central Catholic.....07.....14.....28.....07.....56
San Marino............00......14....07.....00.....21
.
The Raiders didn't waste any time as the offense opened up with a 74 yard pass play with 11:10 on the clock, as Petlanski hit Santino with a bomb and the Raiders were off and running. But things got worse for San Marino, as Petlanski hit his brother on a 24 yard pass and followed up with another pass to Novarro for 49 yards...but then San Marino opened up with a 69 yard pass from by QB wick and then a one yard dash by wick with 017 left in the first half which made the score CC 21 SM 14......Now the SM QB was very good with his deception on hand offs and pass plays in the first half, but with the opening of the second half, it was Rice with 17 yards, a pick off by Bland for 44 yard return and then Rice again with 38 yards, but not to be out done, Bland stepped in again with anther pickoff for 39 yards and the Raiders had racked up 28 points....But in the fourth Quarter, Bland went up the middle for two yards, capping off the Raider scoring

DLS..............07.....00.....14.....07.....28
Centennial...00.....07......14.....00.....21

The Spartans opened up the scoring with a drive that had Sweeny, Hernandez and Custer grinding away against a nasty Huskie defense which include a 15 yard pass to Asiasi and it was Sweeney with a five yard jaunt over the left side for the score capping off a 17 play drive that ate up almost six and a half minutes. For the Huskies, running back Taylor became the work horse. on a shuffle pass from Catalano, Taylor ripped thru the middle of the Spartan defense for the Huskies first score...Now DLS had a big gap between the tackles, and the Huskies were taking advantage of it as the four man Spartan defense had a gap about four feet wide and it took some adjusting to plug up the hole that was now covered by the LB and a line tightened up. In the third quarter all hell broke loose as Catalano hit Saunders on a 10 yard pass, but Sweeney came right back with a 56 yard pass to Harvey, but it wasn't over as Catalano hit McKinley with a 12 yard pass and the Huskies took the lkead for about 18 seconds when Custer broke loose on a 56 yard run and the game was tied..Going into the fourth quarter, both defense' were playing hard nosed defense but a big interception by Lopez returned the ball 30 yards and it was Sweeney with a 32 yard run over the left side that was the wining score. But again, it was the defense and the three remaining TO's that Centennial had to use to gain a chance to tie the game, but it didn't work and DLS held on for the win...

Eastside Prep Coaches vs Cancer Classic - Final Day Matchups

Because of the unfortunate situation with Argyle, Texas not being able to get out of Dallas due to the weather the Elite Bracket has had to be reconfigured with a 7:30 game added and Eastside Playing twice today after not playing at all yesterday. GIRLS BASKETBALL TOP 20

How does the rankings work? I'm confused....

How does Antelope (#9) keep moving up?

They don't play anybody and keep getting rewarded for scheduling/winning vs. not very good competition?
They even went so far to avoid having to play anybody as to opt out of the 2 toughest bracket in the WCJ...

While the rest of the top 20 go to battle vs. each other, and if you lose, the loser gets dinged for it?

I guess in the eyes of NCP its better to run up a gaudy record vs. below average teams than battle and challenge your kids vs. the best in Norcal.

There isn't a team in the top 20 that wouldn't be 6-0 with that Antelope schedule...check it out

their next game in the WCJ is vs (1-6)Oakland tech...lol

Nice schedule
