The woke movement?

So I just read Concord High is changing their mascot from the Minutemen to the Crocodiles. I guess honoring this piece of American history is simply to much. The fact minutemen has “men” in it and carried a musket was enough to ruffle the nickers of the woke crowd. YV has also gone from the Warriors to the wolves. At least wolves were are back in Ca. where as the crocodile never was.

Going to a game tonight?

If so where you going and why?

Im headed to Capital Christian vs Lincoln of San Diego. Looking forward to checking out the #1 rated RB in California, Roderick Robinson. He's currently committed to UCLA but has offers from Georgia, TexasA&M and Auburn. Also interested in seeing what Capital has to offer this year, I know they are pretty stout on the OL/DL and have one of the best receivers in the area in Kanye Clark, but question marks at QB and RB as they are untested. Capital may have bitten off a little more than they can chew here, but hoping they surprise me.

Walker Lyons from Folsom Injured

My sources on the trinity league forums have reported that he suffered broken leg tonight and may be out for the season.

Hope the young lad heals quick and that the rumors are not true. I hope Folsom can still pose a challenge to Serra San Mateo and coach Walsh next week. If Folsom is as good as they say they are, they should have some depth like the TL teams do.

Dick Vermeil's induction

Ancient football relationships continue to manifest themselves. When ex-NFL coach Dick Vermeil was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last week, one of his finest ex-players from his earliest head coaching days at Hillsdale High School (San Mateo) was in attendance (along with several teammates, all in their late 70's now) at the ceremony. Don Leydig, an outstanding prep running back in the early 1960s, and the others made it a point to be there in Canton, Ohio. Vermeil, a Calistoga native, was Hillsdale's head coach 60 years ago. He went on to bigger and better things as we all know. Leydig became Hillsdale's principal 30 years after playing for Vermeil. Like Vermeil, Leydig is retired now.

Central Valley stories to track

Front Row Preps put together a good list of stories to watch out of the southern half of the SJS

One interesting thing to track is this might be Trent Merzon’s last season at Oakdale

More bad PAL news

It's been a difficult off-season for teams in the PAL. Its three best returning post players have all reportedly transferred to private schools. The departure of Burlingame's 5-10 senior Ava Urich to Pinewood has been noted previously. Now, her running mate, 6-1 Elena Weisman, a multi-skilled junior F-C, has moved south to Mitty. Sequoia has taken a hit as well. Its standout 6-1 sophomore F-C Nehelani Stores has left that Redwood City campus as well. Her landing spot has been mentioned as either Woodside Priory or St. Francis. All three players are Division I college prospects. Their combined loss will reduce the PAL's post-season impact in a huge way. Burlingame, in particular, had been expected to field its best team in years in 2022-23. Not so now. The rich just keep getting richer. It's a grim CCS story that shows few signs of changing anytime soon. For some perspective, a PAL girls' hoops unit has not played for a NorCal championship (or a CIF state title) in any division, equity-based or not, since 1988.
