No. 1 in nation coming to West Coast Jamboree

DeSoto of Texas, which will be the MaxPreps' preseason No. 1 (and most likely for other services as well), has committed to the West Coast Jamboree.

Also in the Platinum field will be Centennial of Corona, St. Mary's of Stockton, San Joaquin Memorial and, we have heard, Archbishop Mitty.

DeSoto is led by senior posts Amina Muhammed (6-3, Texas) and Tionna Herron (6-4, Kentucky), with senior guards Jiya Perry (SMU) and Jamia Harris (Texas) in the backcourt.

It will be great to have such a quality team come to the Bay Area ... and the games will be at Las Positas, which is a great place to watch a game.

Thank you for a fun football season!

With the season ending last night, I wanted to post a thank you for a fun year on the boards. Certainly had a few speed bumps along the way, but it was great to have a normalish season and good banter back and forth. To those long time posters, thanks for sticking around the site through what was not always a fun 2020 year. Your insight and presence are deeply appreciated. To the new posters, welcome aboard and I hope to see you around through the off-season and next fall.

I'm working on some fun features/discussions for the off-season, but before then, hope everyone has a good holiday season.

What State Bowl game are you most looking forward to?

I'll throw out a couple I'm excited for:

Folsom-Cathedral: Should be pretty competitive IMO. Interested to see Cathedral running game against Folsom D.

Serra-Mater Dei: Not expecting a competitive game, but always good to see a local team compete against the nation's best. I could see Serra starting fast.

McClymonds-Birmingham: We rarely get to see Mack in competitive games due to section so games like last week against Campoindo and this week are intriguing. CalPreps has it as one of the more competitive games.

Vanden-Aquinas: Seems like every year, there is a team goes on a run that grabs my attention. This year, it is Vanden.

I Get To Put Gridley To Bed For Another Year.

There were some surprises, such as Salesian and Dublin losing in the first round. I have always said, It doesn’t matter who the team is, if you don’t play well you will lose. We welcomed De La Salle coming back to the GIBT after a 34 year hiatus.

Jay Olsen’s scoring record for Gridley had a real attempt at breaking this record that has stood for 53 years.
Courtney Anderson missed a three point shot at the Buzzer that would have put the game into overtime. And would have given him 100 points. Into overtime, another six points would have shattered the record.
Olsen’s record was done before the three point line was established. The last player to have threatened the record was Stephon Harris from Luther Burbank. He was at 104 points and his shot rimed out at the buzzer. Crowed went crazy.

A tournament Queen was crowned. It is a tradition dating back to the first Gibt. It’s an old school pageantry. It's small town hospitality welcoming crowds, housing players, seeing old friends.

It is my honor to help make this tournament what it is. There is nothing quite like it. You just have to come, and see for yourself.

Here’s wishing you great hoops

Gridley Day 2!

First game of the day, Consoaltion Bracket: Dublin faces Salesian. My guess is neither team feels they played well yesterday and both would love to erase the bad memories.

From up here, I’d say Salesian was especially far off their game. Dublin may have just run into a Sacto buzzsaw….

Getting ready to go with my Cliff’s Notes-style account…
