Questions about new CIF post season format

So I'm trying to figure out the new playoff format. Upon reviewing the CIF website, there is apparently 51 section champion qualifiers statewide. Then when looking at the regional setup for playoffs, there's 2 teams picked outright to skip regionals and advance directly to State Open Division Championship Bowl Game. Then there's 12 more divisions for regional games (4 teams per division), equaling 48 teams. So how can there be 51 section champion qualifiers, and games for only 50 teams? Does this mean 1 section champion is being left out?

Also, can anyone tell me what playoff sections are assigned to what state regional sections?

"Johnny Be Good"

Does anyone remember that 1988 movie with then living by the day Robert Downey Jr?
if you haven't seen it, watch it as it satirizes how colleges use to gift give to high school athletes.
it seems like another world a long long time ago.
what shit for brains group of numnuts got together and came up with the idea that you can't buy an athlete a free lunch or a free trip to visit the school? WHO CARES if school A wants to give some kid who most likely has nothing a $10,000 grant or new car? - Even if the kid comes from money - who cares if they buy him diamond ring!
Today that school can barely legally buy you lunch.
This rule has made monsters out of high school kids trying to get a degree and play a sport. - Why shouldn't they be eligible to reap something when the machine around them makes a billion dollars?
Capitalism - huh?

Riordan CCS playoff history

Riordan results from CCS playoffs:

1972 Riordan entered CCS playoffs (CCS' first year of playoffs with a single division) with a record of 8-2. They lost in the championship game to Leland, but beat Westmoor and Woodside to get there. Here is the script from CCS historical records:
Final:
LELAND def. RIORDAN, 41-16, at Spartan Stadium, Dec. 15 -- Leland, which had not been ranked No. 1 in the CCS prior to this game, won the section championship with an easy victory before 4,500 chilled spectators. Quarterback Jim Miller, the game’s outstanding offensive player, passed for four TDs and rolled up 190 yards on 13 of 22 pass attempts. Jim Bowen, who caught three TD passes, was the game’s top lineman. Coach Kent Miller (no relation to quarterback Jim) watched his Chargers get a 33-0 lead before Riordan scored.

1988 Riordan entered CCS Division I-4A with a 8-2 record. (those were the years were SF was a national powerhouse.) They lost in the first round to Overfelt.

1993 Riordan entered the CCS D-IV playoffs with a 6-4 record. They lost in the first round to Palma.

1997 Riordan entered the CCS D-II playoffs with a 5-5 record. They lost in the first round to Leigh.

2000 Riordan entered the CCS D-IV playoffs with a 9-1 record. They lost to San Lorenzo Valley in the championship game. Here is the script from CCS historical records:
Final:
SAN LORENZO VALLEY def. RIORDAN, 20-17, at PAL Stadium, Dec. 1 -- After the two teams traded leads throughout the contest, San Lorenzo Valley marched 62 yards in the closing minutes, capped by Nick Noce's one-yard keeper. Noce had scored earlier for the Cougars and also lateraled to Matt Sinnott who passed 66 yards to Ian Sacco for the other touchdown.

2007 Riordan entered the CCS Medium Schools Division ( D-III) playoffs with a 6-3-1 record. They beat Terra Nova, Pioneer and Live Oak to become a Sectional Champion. Here is the script from CCS historical records:
Final:
RIORDAN def. LIVE OAK, 54-19, at San Jose City College, Dec. 1 – The Crusaders rolled to an easy victory on the passing combination of Darius Bell to Daniel Cannon. The latter scored twice on passes, ran a fumble back for a TD and passed to Bell on a reverse for another tally. Riordan led 47-0 before Live Oak managed a score.

2012 Riordan entered the CCS D-III playoffs with a 3-7 record. They lost in the first round to Sobrato.

For 2015, they appear to be able to challenge at least their 1972 & 1988 8-2 record if not their 2000 9-1 record.

Mack is 6-0

Granted they're in the OAL, however, wouldn't it be sweet justice if they ran the table and got a Nor Cal bid? The terribly deflating forfeits last year as a result of that Danville family commuting their boy from SRV will be tempered. Mack won without him the balance of 2014. Warrior families, many of whom who struggle to gain the opportunities offered in the lily white San Ramon Valley, would at least find some redemption for last years seniors. SRV, 1-5, now has that UC Davis commit QB back following his transferring back sit-out from McClymonds. He went 2-11 for 20 yards against dLS.

WCAL Offenses on the rise

It seems to be a trend now with more teams in the WCAL adopting spread offenses. Serra started using it in the 2013 season and fared well tying Mitty for the title before losing to Del Oro in the Regional game. Mitty with their newly installed offense has been on a tear putting up over 30+ a game and just defeated top ranked Bellarmine ( without Martig) but still managed to put up 35 points. We all know by now how dangerous Riordan spread offense attack is as they put up 66 points on Serra and has to be averaging close to 40 points a game. Is Valley Christian next in line to add in a spread offense? They usually have the best athletes year in and out and it makes sense for them to get with the times or get left behind. I know coach Calcagno at SF is old school with running the ball and playing solid defense which they have been doing, but an 11-8 win over SI spells doom for them once one of these spread teams happens to put some points on the board. I will say I always loved the smash mouth running attack as it was very effective years ago, but it won't do any good when the Regional games come into play. You need to pass the ball to when at that level and I am happy to see the WCAL offenses finally adapting with the times. This will also allow more skill players to get college looks like from a WR spot. Collin Johnson is a exception, but you rarely see a WCAL guy sign at the WR spot. Monroe from Mitty last year did, but is now in college playing cornerback for SJSU.
