Del Oro vs Folsom

The game will be at the Dawg Pound;) or whatever they call that stadium in Folsom where visitor wins in recent history have been non existent.

While DO is 2-2 they were just a few good defensive plays away from wins in both the Punahou & Bellarmine games, two very good teams, and could easily be 4-0. Arguably DO is the best 2-2 team in NorCal.

Folsom while not the team they were last year(lot of D1 players graduated) is averaging similar rushing yards per game and only ~100 yards per game less receiving vs last year. Where Folsom is still averaging more than double the national average in receiving ypg and they are 4-0, the 100 less ypg receiving is having little to no impact on their results.

Del Oro is averaging 45ypg more receiving and 50ypg more rushing vs last year and this with as tough a pre-league as last year. While numbers only tell part of the story, having seen all of DO's games last & this year they are, overall, a better team than last year.

I've seen some great playoff games @Folsom. Most memorable game was the 2005 Rocklin vs DO section title game where DO won by a field goal. Then there was the 2009 DO vs Folsom semi-final where Dano Graves had the Dawgs up 35-7 at halftime and DO can back and won that game 43-42 thanks to, in part, a missed Folsom field goal that hit the cross bar that would have sealed the game for Folsom. And finally the 2009 Grant/Rocklin quarter final game where Rocklin had that incredible goal line stand.

While this is not a playoff game I expect Loomis to show up in force creating a playoff atmosphere. Going to be a good one. GO DO!!

Serra - Bells The Big Boys Rumble

The two current and deserving WCAL heavyweights battle Friday. Best game of the year so far for CCS teams. I haven't hyped the Crusaders despite their fantastic start because the WCAL is a different beast. If they knock off Mitty I'll grab a handle on the bandwagon. Meanwhile, I can't wait to watch shCathedral this weekend against major contender VC. I hope all fifteen fans on their side of the stands are loud and boisterous.

Local JC Talent

Folks, I recently saw a thread discussing local junior college quarterbacks. I'm wondering what your opinions are pertaining to players of other positions? I have read some positive press on former Cal High flanker/slot receiver CJ Cornwell at DVC. Has anyone heard anything about Drew Sullivan at DVC? I heard they converted him to center, but I haven't heard how it's working out? Also, any word on CSM transfer from Utah State Karris Johnson?

SHP vs. Carmel and King’s Academy vs. San Lorenzo

Sacred Heart Prep 76, Carmel 55

Sacred Heart Prep (2-2) got back in the win column Saturday with the single highest point total in 13th year head coach Pete Lavorato’s tenure to down Carmel (1-2). The Gators had 605 yards of total offense, including tailback Lapitu Mahoni’s career-high 200 rushing yards on 22 carries and four touchdowns. Thomas Wine added 22 carries for 148 yards and two touchdowns.

King’s Academy 48, San Lorenzo 14

The King’s Academy (3-0) remained unbeaten Saturday with a win at San Lorenzo Valley (1-2). Freshman quarterback Michael Johnson, Jr. gained 338 total yards, netting a 6-for-10 passing game for a career-high 265 yards and three touchdowns; he also rushed six times for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Junior College Football CSM loses shocker to Delta

Terry Bernal of the San Mateo Daily Journal

It just wasn’t the Bulldogs’ day.

Not only did No. 2-ranked College of San Mateo (3-1) suffer a huge upset with a 43-30 loss Saturday at unranked San Joaquin Delta (2-2). The Bulldogs were hardly even in the game.

CSM turned over the ball on each of its first two possessions and Delta capitalized, jumping out to a 16-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

“We were playing uphill the whole game,” CSM head coach Bret Pollack said.

The Mustangs then rode running back Evan Owens to a career day, as the sophomore totaled a triple-digit rushing total for the first time in his career. Owens gained 236 total yards, collecting a game-high 188 running yards on 24 carries; he also had a team-high 48 receiving yards on three catches. He rushed for 401 yards all last season.

“Really good job on his part, both running the ball and catching the ball out of the backfield,” Delta head coach Gary Barlow said.

The second half featured two polar-opposite quarters. With Delta leading 26-10 at halftime, the two teams totaled totaled five touchdowns in the third quarter. But the Delta defense pitched a fourth-quarter shutout, holding CSM to just two first downs throughout.

“We just didn’t execute well,” Pollack said. “No mystery. They gave everything they always give … and Delta just did a better job of executing than we did.”

Bulldogs quarterback Dru Brown suffered the worst game of his collegiate career. Not only did the freshman complete just 10-of-25 passes — his lowest completion total in four games — for 178 yards, he was responsible for all three CSM turnovers.

Going deep right out of the gate, Brown threw interception on first play of the game with cornerback Alex Lee picking it off 29 yards downfield. The Mustangs quickly converted, catching CSM off guard out of the spread offense with four straight rushing plays to Owens for 14, 43, 1 and 1 yards, the last going for a touchdown.

“Some of the problems we’ve had going into Saturday’s game is we haven’t done a good job blocking for the running game and the passing game, and I think [the offensive line] had their best game,” Barlow said.

The Bulldogs took a big hit in the first half when freshman fullback Joey Wood exited with a shoulder injury. He was still CSM’s third-leading rusher with 37 yards on seven carries. While he did not return, Pollack said the injury probably won’t be a long-term issue.

“I won’t know until Monday when I get in, but it didn’t seem to be a big deal,” Pollack said.

CSM then turned over the ball again on its second possession. This time it was Brown on a fumble, giving Delta the ball near midfield. The Mustangs later converted with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Arnold Kimble to Jalen Ward. Delta added a 24-yard field goal by Joel Chavez with five minutes remaining in the first quarter to take a 16-0 lead.

CSM opened the second quarter with a 24-yard field goal of its own, as Anthony Cantabrana hit his first of the year to get the Bulldogs on the board, closing Delta’s lead to 16-3. But after CSM and Delta traded touchdowns in the second quarter, Chavez added a 43-yard field goal to improve Delta’s lead to 26-10 going into halftime.

Freshman running back Isaiah Williams paced CSM with 54 rushing yards on 13 carries, including three touchdowns. He scored twice amid the fireworks of the third quarter. CSM freshman Ramiah Marshall capped the third quarter with a 98-yard kickoff return to cut Delta’s lead to 40-30.

But after Chavez opened the final quarter with his third field goal of the game, from 22 yards out, the Bulldogs couldn’t move the ball. The Bulldogs endured three stunted drives, the fina ending with a costly fumble by Brown on their final offensive play with 2:17 remaining in regulation.

Delta outgained CSM 481-336 on the day.

CSM hosts No. 16-ranked American River Saturday at 1 p.m. Last season, it was American River (3-1) that handed CSM its first loss of the season.

RECAP OF FRIDAY NIGHT PICKS

Only two picks went bad and the first one was Deer Valley knocking off Concord 34-12, Deer Valley so far has stopped Granada 20-7 but lost to Campolindo 42-29, but they scored 29 points on the Cougars and we blasted 36-0 by Pittman... Concord seemed to be on the right track with wins over Benicia, San Lorenzo and Oakland but SL and Oakland are no yard sticks and Deer valley made a statement by beating Granada 20-7.
The other pick that went bad was Liberty dropping a 33-28 loss to San Leandro....Now San Leandro at 0-4 does not tell the whole story...the Pirates at 0-4 are still one of the toughest teams in the area and stopped a struggling Liberty Lion team 33-28. The next question is what is going on with the Lions.
They started the season with a 30-7 win over Central of Fresno but in the next game against Chico, they had a big lead and lost it and went down 41-34...Against California, at the half it was 1717, but this time they could net follow up in the second half and lost 42-24, scoring only one TD.. Liberty gets a bye this week, so they can regroup and get ready for League play.
In the EBAL, there were no surprises except Livermore scored 17 on Monte Vista although MV won 48-17, now Monte Vista has a big task for next Friday when they travel to clayton valley charter
In the DFAL.....Campolindo got by Dublin 14-10 in a battle that the Gaels were well prepared for....although Dublin did not get on the score board with a TD play. They did take the lead with a 75 yard fumble recovery and held the Cougars to 14 points, taking a few pages from Napa and came close to pulling off a victory...
And what about Dougherty Valley winning their first league game against Las Lomas at 21-14, DV now at 5-0 has to prepare for Cammpolindo and there is a good chance the wildcats may give the Cougars another battle like Dublin pulled off.
Over at Alhambra, Miramonte took off to a 14-0 lead and although the Bulldogs came close in the second quarter and the third quarter, the combination of Tague, Stehr, Anderson and Lindberg were just too much as they racked up 21 first downs in route to a 42-19 win.
BUT at the BVAL, all hell broke loose as Antioch shut out Pinole valley 52-0, we expected Pinole Valley to give the Panthers a fight, but Antioch put up a strong defense...In Pittsburg, the Pirates turned back the Vacaville Bulldogs 34-24 and Freedom went down to W.C.Wood 55-31 in three wild scoring games.....

Palma-24 vs Aptos-13 final

Emilio Martinez hurts his shoulder in the win. Had his arm in a sling. Dont know the severity of the injury but he didnt finish the game. Palmas offense has struggled now in the 2nd half of games in back to back weeks when Emilio goes down. They try to throw the ball too much instead of relying on their strength in running the ball.

Palmas defense hasnt looked great either. I know they have been playing decent teams but they are very inconsistent. One drive they look very good then the next they look soft. If they face a hot offense that protects the ball they will struggle. Defense has come up huge the past two weeks with turnovers in 1st half. Outside of the sutter game palma has yet to finish a team off. They continue to let teams hang around in 2nd half.
