West Coast Jamboree 2015: One-quarter full already

So it's May 1, and we're at 32 teams already. We will not take more than 128, and last year, some latecomers got lucky getting in because of the inevitable teams dropping out.

On the one hand, as Dave Jackson always wanted, it would be great to let everyone in and have the tournament be as big as needed, but the reality is that the very limited staff we have isn't really capable of handling the administration of a tournament with 144 teams. (In fact, I'd say we're pretty stretched to handle 128.)

So if you want to play in the 2015 Jamboree (Dec. 28-30), you might want to get your application in a little earlier than in years' past, just to make sure.

We hope to hear from you soon ...

Ivan Rabb Outlook

Rivals.com National Analyst Eric Bossi broke down the 5-stars and their outlook for college. Here is the excerpt on Ivan Rabb:

Because he stayed home to be the face of the program and is the highest rated recruit that California has landed in some time, there will undoubtedly be pressure and perhaps inflated expectations. And, the No. 7 player in 2015 does need to get stronger. However, he has a great attitude, is a worker and his productivity on the offensive glass combined with his ambidextrous scoring make him a pretty safe bet to be live up to his ranking.

Joe DeMers in SI

Joe DeMers of College Park is featured in this week's Sports Illustrated Faces In The Crowd section, highlighting his perfect game against Monte Vista earlier this season, and his 2 other no-hitters against Concord and Northgate. All 3 were home games.

He pitched at home again for the 4th time yesterday, and had a 4th no-hitter broken up with 2 outs in the 7th inning. He struck out 10 with no walks and hit a 3-run homer to aid his own cause, as if he needed it. He is now 9-0 with a microscopic ERA.

Devin Asiasi and Anthony Sweeney interviews

I went to De La Salle many years ago. When I have time I am conducting interviews with this year's team. This week I talked to Devin Asiasi about his Tongan and Samoan heritage and the college recruitment process. I spoke with Anthony Sweeney about rehabilitation from elbow surgery and leadership lessons learned from Simba Short. SHP over Burlingame and Carlmont over Menlo

SHP v. BHS http://www.smdailyjournal.com/artic...rs-5-1-win-over-burlingame/1776425142536.html

CHS v. Menlo HS - April 29, 2015 - PAL Bay League Game @ Menlo School
Carlmont 010 000 33 7 10 3
Menlo 000 040 00 4 2 2

WP: Giberton (6-1, 4-0) Save: Stewart (#3) LP: Cardozo
2B: Billot-2 (C) Gampell (M) 3H: Billot (C) 2H: Pleschner (C) 3RBI: Billot (C) Gampell (M)

In dramatic fashion Carlmont came back with 3 runs to knot the score at 4-4 in the top of the 7th with Julian Billot (1B) driving in the first 2, and Aaron Album's smash to short that was mishandled allowing the tying run to cross the plate. CHS scored 3 times after 2 were out in the 8th. With Mike McGill (1B) at 2nd base, Billot smacked his second double of the game to score McGill. Aaron Pleschner followed with a single to bring in Billot. Pleschner then stole 2nd base and raced home when Aaron Albaum singled to right. Starter Joe Pratt pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up just one hit and 3 walks along with the 4 unearned runs and 4 K's. Sean Yao threw an inning of relief in the 6th, followed by Ryan Giberton who pitched the 7th and started the 8th, picking up his 6th win of the season. With 2 runners on and nobody out in the 8th, Spencer Stewart took the mound. The first batter he faced was safe on a bunt single to load the bases, but he was able to retire the next 3 Knights, including 2 K's, and nail down his 3rd Save. Chs Record: 18-5, 8-3
