CCS reality check

Now that CCS has been entirely shut out of the NorCal regional games (and, by the way, thanks a lot SHP and Aptos for your participation and very nice 2014 seasons), a chorus will commence to "fix" the CCS Open Division setup. Uh, no. This is what the CCS public schools want. Their goal is to isolate as many powerhouse privates (the WCAL in particular) in the Open as possible, thus freeing up other divisions for potential public titles, or at least better and more even competition for them on their way to the finals. For the publics, the privates are akin to an ebola outbreak. So all hail the CCS Open. It's still a wonderful life, with all due deference to Jimmy Stewart's classic celluloid performance. See you in 2015 when the debate can rev up again.

Grant and Folsom are located 19 miles apart

It's unfortunate that they didn't schedule a regular season game. It's also unfortunate that SJS didn't allow them to match up in the postseason, either via an Open format or by allowing Grant to opt up to Division 1.

However, to select 2 big public schools 19 miles apart to play for the D1 Norcal title is a JOKE. Grant is not a D1 team! They are D2!

There are 591 schools in CIF Norcal across 6 sections. SHP is the undisputed #1 team of the 140 in the CCS.

Pick the best D1 team from the rest of Norcal and let's see them play - that's what CIF competition is supposed to be about. It's not supposed to match up teams 20 minutes down the road from each other based on some BS computer ratings created by a sports media company.

Triple Header

I wasn't certain on potential Bay area venues but hopefully the CIF considers hosting an event like the one below. I think it would be good for Norcal high school football.

Triple Header:

Saturday
12/13/14

Oakdale/Enterprise vs. Clayton Valley
Sacred Heart Prep vs Grant
Folsom vs De la Salle

Potential Locations: Sac State, Sacramento City College, UC Davis, Bay area venue.

Free student section admissions.

Socal:
Centennial vs. Oceanside
Edison vs. Mission Viejo

SHP vs Bellarmine

This game is very interesting because both teams are smaller and not the most athletic teams and run not so common offenses. These teams are almost like a carbon copy of each other, small, but very disciplined, smart, and well coached. SHP's offense looked very dynamic against LG and I expect them to win this game. I don't think Bellarmine will be able to stop BBK just like almost every team this year. Also SHP's QB is very good, he throws a great ball and never makes the wrong decision. But Bellarmine has their own play makers in Kyle Macauley and Anthony Guttadauro, who are smaller, but are very quick and athletic. I expect both of those players to have big games and help Bellarmine. Ultimately I think BBK and SHP's offense will prove to be too much for Bellarmine and SHP's defense will come up with some big stops. Last week I predicted SHP to win 28-24 and I am picking them to win again with a score of SHP 35 - Bellarmine 24. Reply with your picks. We can talk about the bowl games and who should be picked after the games. We should not be talking about who should be picked for the NorCal bowl games, but about these great match ups in this upcoming week. Focus on this week not the week after.

Sacred Heart Prep deserves the Norcal bid over Grant

SHP beat Salinas (CCS D1 finalist), Terra Nova (D3 finalist), Burlingame, Oak Grove (league champ), Los Gatos (who destroyed WCAL champ Serra 28-0), and Bellarmine (who beat Milpitas and Valley Christian).

It is absurd to consider computer rankings of high school teams to justify Grant being picked over SHP. The NCAA couldn't even do that successfully, but small sports media company publishes rankings and they are supposed to be taken seriously?

Congrats to Grant for an unbeaten season, but they are the second best team in their section after Folsom, so they are SOL.

Grant won the Division TWO title last night. Unfortunately for them, their section does not have an Open division. so they didn't get to play Folsom. SHP ran the table in the CCS Open and deserves a shot at Folsom.

Think they don't have a chance? Ask El Cerrito.

This is what Norcal and state championships are supposed to be all about: pitting the top teams from DIFFERENT sections against one another to decide on the field who is better. Folsom is the best team from SJS, SHP is the best from CCS. Using "computer rankings" generated by a media company as a way to justify matching up 2 teams from the same section is a JOKE.

The Commissioners Suck

The goofball commissioners created this mess. An undefeated, major section champ's season is going to end. Pathetic. A third grader could have predicted this possibility. And it was done based on one schools dominance. These commissioners suck. They believe they will have addressed all concerns next year with the expansion of regional games but there will not be an Open regional game. So the what if's will continue as opposed to playing the damn games. Did I mention, the commissioners suck?

Sutter, Aptos, Enterpirse.... The list goes on. Settle it on the field. You commissioners suck. Did any of you play a sport at the HS level? Do you understand what it is like to compete?

You commissioners suck.

SHP

SHP is for real and I do not think there is a debate. To all the people out there who said they did not have a chance, I told you not to doubt them and they are always in the game who ever they play. LG played an outstanding game and a few plays away from playing Bell. I think if the game continued and they continued to pound it with Wood it would probably been a different outcome. Burr-Kirven has changed my mind, and I think he is the #1 player in CCS.

Aptos 11 v Saint Ignatius 8 Final (Aptos 12-1 record)

1st half - SI missed two FGs - one blocked
SI stopped Aptos 4th and Goal and short

2nd half
Aptos drove field and converted 2 pts with 15 seconds left in 3Q 8-0 3Q Aptos
Aptos offense stepped it up in second half

McClymonds QB appeal denied by CIF, family seeks court injunction

The CIF denies McClymonds quarterback Kevin Davidson appeal for eligibility after Oakland Section rules transfer improprieties.

The CIF has denied an appeal of McClymonds (Oakland, Calif.) junior
quarterback Kevin Davidson, according to Oakland Section commissioner Russell White, and the Warriors, 12-0 on the field, will forfeit the four games in which he played.
White said that Davidson's family is currently seeking a court injunction with the hopes the 6-foot-4, 220-pound junior gains
back his eligibility before the CIF commissioners meet to decide the Region Bowl Championship finalists on Sunday.

The Oakland Unified School District ruled Davidson ineligible Oct. 17 for residential issues and transferring from San Ramon Valley-Danville for athletic reasons.

Davidson, an FBS prospect, played the first four games of the season and threw for more than 1,100 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Reached by text, Davidson said his fate "is still in process. Should know by Friday." McClymonds coach Michael Peters did not immediately return messages.

At the time of the ruling, OUSD spokesman Troy Flint said the district would not seek to vacate the four victories Davidson played in.

But White, noting bylaw 103 of the Oakland Section, said the Warriors must forfeit the games. The bylaw reads: "If a school plays an ineligible student, knowingly or unwillingly (sic), in any contest involving team play. …that contest shall be forfeited."

"Being a commissioner, I have to uphold the section bylaws and not allow my personal feelings get in the way," White said.

With a 17-8 win over Fremont-Oakland Friday, McClymonds won its fifth straight Oakland Section title, and by doing so will be considered for one of two spots in the CIF Northern California Regional Bowl Division IV championship game, a contest
it had played in the previous two years.

With a 12-0 record, 536-74 point differential and No. 4 Division IV power ranking in the state, the Warriors appeared a lock to be picked for the game. With a now 8-4 record, the state's 10 section commissioners who choose the finalist will be given a tougher task evaluating McClymonds.

Historically, the commissioners have not selected teams with forfeit losses into the state playoffs.
One of McClymonds' four wins with Davidson was 32-22 over Salesian College Preparatory (Richmond), which is one win away from qualifying for consideration into the Division IV regional. Salesian is 10-2 on the field, but now 11-1 with
the forfeit win.

Central Catholic (Modesto) (10-3), which defeated McClymonds the last two seasons for the regional title, won the
Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV title last week with a 42-35 triumph over Sonora. Another SJS team, Division V winner Winters (12-1) have already qualified for consideration into the Division IV regional final.

The commissioners convene Sunday in Los Angeles to pick the finalists for the 10 games - five in the North and five in the South.

"I'm going down to present McClymonds' case full force," said White, who starred at running back for Cal and played one season in the NFL.

After McClymonds' section-title win over Fremont Friday, Peters said: "We're just hopeful that our commissioner fights for us now. Like he should."

If the Davidson family gains a court injunction, the selection of the Northern California Division IV teams may be delayed. There's a precedent.

Last season's Southern California Division IV selections were delayed a day before the San Diego Superior Court, Department 67, denied a request by Christian (El Cajon) for an injunction to place the team in another enrollment-based division.

"A lot of people are hanging on this decision," White said of the possible injunction. "There's a whole lot of bouncing balls. Like you, I'm just waiting to hear something."
