Azzi Fudd Multiple Tears in Her Right Knee...might miss 24 months of basketball

Very, very sad ... I hadn't realized adding the MCL extends the recovery time, but given her youth and physical condition, 24 months seems extreme. My guess would be she's back next summer, and then plays her senior year at St. John's.

But of course you never know ...

Sad Indeed, I saw the same injury happen the La Jolla Country Day star guard Te-hina Paopao. I saw her play two years ago prior to the injury and you would swear she was at a level at that time of being one of the best players in the nation. Unfortunately, she has been plagued with the same type of injury. She is now playing well but not near that explosive type player she was.

Sad news. There has been plenty of discussion on here in the past about over use and the need for rest around these year-round schedules. How popular is this USA Basketball sanctioned 3x3 tourney? How many different tourneys like this do they operate?

Sierra tore her ACL, MCL, and meniscus Jan 16, 2017, had surgery March 13, 2017, and did not get released to workout and train without contact until Jan 2018. She was released with no limitations a couple of months later, but did not play in an actual game until November 2018. A total of 1 year and 10 months.
Having multiple tears requires a lot more therapy. For us it seemed like no matter how good we thought Sierra was doing, and how good she felt, her Sports Medicine Dr. was very cautious, refused to speed up the process.

3x3 is an Olympic sport in 2020, and as they are not going to take players who don't make the National team, they are looking at younger players. It's unlikely Azzi Fudd would have made the team, but Sabrina Ionescu, barring injury, is considered a lock to do so. That's one reason she stayed at Oregon, as going pro would have interfered with her ability to make the 3x3 team.

Interesting. I was not aware it was a new Olympic sport. So not only was USA Basketball not being excessive, they have to conduct these 3x3 tourneys in order to be able to be able to select the teams. 3x3 is a fun and dynamic game where everyone is involved on every possession.
