Dude the fact that you compare the ncaa tournament to the cif is real comedy and man did I know you would respond. And St Peter’s shouldn’t even be there because they are a 15 seed right? (same logic you used with SJND/Arcata this season).
you play the teams put in front of you.
reason Zags lost tonight is because the Holmgren kid got exposed. His body hasn’t changed a bit since he stepped on foot the Gonzaga campus.
He’s not the reason they lost lol Nembhard only scoring 7 points On 2-11 shooting + turning the ball over 5 times while getting handled by Notae who led Arkansas in scoring is the reason…………Holmgren had a nice second half and still ended up with 14 boards while scoring 11 second half pointsAnd St Peter’s shouldn’t even be there because they are a 15 seed right? Exactly. Like I always say some of us watch different games. The kid had another double double, but they had 15 turnovers and 8 assists while Arkansas had 13 assists and 8 turnovers. Plus went 5 for 21 from 3. Anyone who knows the game at this level knows your not going to win a close game with that assist to turnover ratio and less than 25 percent from the stripe. And their bench, 3 total guys gave them nothing with exception to one guy had 8 boards. He’s not the reason they lost lol Nembhard only scoring 7 points On 2-11 shooting + turning the ball over 5 times while getting handled by Notae who led Arkansas in scoring is the reason…………Holmgren had a nice second half and still ended up with 14 boards while scoring 11 second half points
In the right system Holmgren will live a good life in the NBA. He is only 19, obviously will gain some weight with the type of training they get, and will play quite a few years.Tell you what. Musselman can flat out coach. That’s a tough bunch of kids who played there arse off. Back to back elite 8. I was bummed when he left Nevada but that’s a no brainer. Holmgren had some mystery calls. He plays the entire game and it’s diff but that’s life .
notae almost shot them out the game. man was out there point shavingHe’s not the reason they lost lol Nembhard only scoring 7 points On 2-11 shooting + turning the ball over 5 times while getting handled by Notae who led Arkansas in scoring is the reason…………Holmgren had a nice second half and still ended up with 14 boards while scoring 11 second half points
Have you seen the series on Netflix called bad sport. The first one is about ASU/point shaving and my boy speaks alot on that episode. That point shaving scandal was nuts.notae almost shot them out the game. man was out there point shaving
i havent seen it. but i remember hedake smith or however you spell it when it happenedHave you seen the series on Netflix called bad sport. The first one is about ASU/point shaving and my boy speaks alot on that episode. That point shaving scandal was nuts.
i still think unlv threw the game vs duke. i saw photos of them sitting in the pool of a bookie the next day. also augmon and LJ were driving brand new 5.0 drop tops the next dayHave you seen the series on Netflix called bad sport. Must see TV. Sad how college athletes can be targeted and exploited.i havent seen it. but i remember hedake smith or however you spell it when it happened
Ankle it’s a trip. Their is one clip where ASU was up like 5, I am guessing the spread here, hedake got the rebound and their was only like 4 seconds left so the opponent wasn’t gonna foul, and he went flying down the court and fired a 3. At first his teammates were like damn man you trying to rub it in. But once the investigation started it was like oh, now we get it.i havent seen it. but i remember hedake smith or however you spell it when it happened
No doubt Mussleman is doing a amazing job. But being around the game for a long time which I know you have been as well. I just don’t see how a team loses 2 conference games in a total of 4 seasons and is battle tested. I think Few is a great coach, he recruits some dynamite players, and has juniors and seniors that he has turned into some damn good players. But they can’t get over the hump. And yes luck is a big part of the tourney, but I am sure a team like Arkansas has to say who have they played the last two months versus who have we played. So once again Gonzaga is bounced, and I will be willing to bet they will never win it.The league doesn't help Gonzaga, but it isn't the reason they haven't won a national title. There is a lot of luck to win six games over these three weeks. It is fair to have reservations about Gonzaga on this stage (can go back to recruiting), but then you have to have similar reservations about Kentucky (all of those pros and one title), Alabama the past two years, the Big 10 as a whole, etc. Even Kansas has made one final four in the last 12 years coming into this year.
My bigger takeaway is the job Eric Mussleman has done now at two stops in college and how it is pretty cool to see Arkansas back on this stage. That was a top shelf program that really fell off
That was a great documentary. Riordan ‘s Dwayne Fontana was on that team and interviewed quite a bit.Ankle it’s a trip. I think not playing tough games later in the year is a good point. However, the top of the WCC is better than the top of the AAC and it doesnt seem to impact HoustonNo doubt Mussleman is doing a amazing job. Mark Few is 321-31 since 1999 in conference and has a boatload of blowouts the last 4 years. Coach K is 450-189 since 1980 in conference. And has 5 banners. And that doesn’t include this season wins and losses.
Streak i knew someone would make such a comparison and the same thing could be said about St Peter’s. And all the other schools over the last few years who have made Cinderella stories. However those teams loaded with upper class men in most cases have nothing to lose. They are glad to be there.I think not playing tough games later in the year is a good point. Hold on. Did you just compare Houston to St Peter’s? The same Houston who went to the final four as a three seed (not positive on seeding) last year and is a 5 seed this year. Houston has been a top 25 team for a number of years now. They are no where close to a Cinderella team.Streak i knew someone would make such a comparison and the same thing could be said about St Peter’s. @HSWIZARD73 speaking of the Riordan State champs team and the Forslund coaching tree, I noticed Coach Buck is no longer at St. Mary’s -Albany? Coach of the year after leading the Panthers to a state title a few years ago…You know I am over Gonzaga. And here is why. You have the Trinity League in So Cal, and the WCAL in Nor Cal. Then in between all that you have some serious competition in other leagues as well. Like the one University plays in(it’s a joke folks).
Anyways to win in the end and beat the best of the best you have to be tested. Greatest thing that happened to Riordans state title team is SH owned them a few times that year. And they even lost to Burlingame in the Burlingame tournament. But won the Chaminade which is loaded, and just flat out got battle tested.
Not discounting USF or St Mary’s, but fact is when playing Pepperdine, San Diego, Loyola Marymount, and then the WCC tourney in Vegas is doing nothing for them. They need to put themselves in another conference or call it a day.
They just lost to a team who lost to Vandy, BAMA, Texas A&M, but they beat Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee. It’s all about being prepared in this tourney, and not shocked they knocked off Gonzaga who once again fails.
Correct he decided to spend more time with the family. He has put a lot of years in, talk to him every so often. Great guy.@HSWIZARD73 speaking of the Riordan State champs team and the Forslund coaching tree, I noticed Coach Buck is no longer at St. Mary’s -Albany? chet needs to work on his self. he cant guard to save his life and has terrible foot speed.Listen The Hall. What part of what is said in regards to Gonzaga did you fail to understand. I know who they play, I watch those games, I AM A MARK FEW FAN. And I enjoy watching Gonzaga play in big games. However I SAID THE LEAGUE. And I am a huge Randy Bennet fan as well. Those two guys in my book are some of the top coaches in the nation. But explain to me how this gets one prepared for the tournament. They only play St Mary’s twice. Outside of that:
Beat Pepperdine by 34 and 20
Beat BYU by 26 and 33
Beat Santa Clara by 32 and 12
Beat USF by 16 and 16
Beat LMU by 44
Beat Portland by 32
Beat San Diego by 30
And Pacific by 38
Duke who was 16-4, 6 of those wins were by 9,2,9,11,2 and 5 and the losses were by 2,1,1 and 13. Those are dog fights
UNC who was 15-5, 8 of those wins were by 10,9,7,2,8,7,10,9 and the losses 3 they got punched in the mouth by 28,18,20 and the other 2, 9 and 5
Kansas who was 14-4, 9 of those wins were by 11,1,3,3,3,9,2,4,7 and and the losses were by 12,3,10 and 10.
And Villanova 16-4 close wins and losses as well.
So you see what I am saying now. I give a rats a.. that Gonzaga has literally lost 2 times in conference in four seasons, it is not impressive based on the above. And therefore I think giving them the #1 ranking week after week and a few years weeks at a time is pretty lame.
When it starts with 68 teams, and every game is pack your bags and go home if you lose, I am going with the teams who in the last two months have battled out wins and losses.
And it has been well known shooting is tough in large arenas for the high school players and we all know Gonzaga plays with very close backgrounds on the road in some cases. You think it’s a coincidence they shot 5 for 21 in Portland and 9 for 27 in SF. They shot 41 percent in conference. But hey WTF do I know about Gonzaga.
I mean you said they lost because of Chet, you know that was hilarious right. He was 5-9 with 14 boards while Timme was 9-19 and the other kid was 2-13. Just maybe they should have ran a little more offense thru Chet.
the first 7 games in november can only do so much when you play future google engineers, politicians and vegetarians for 2 straight months. clearly gonzaga has shown when hit in the mouth by bigger, faster and stronger. they cant overcome it.HSWIZARD you have no idea what your talking about when it comes to gonzaga. Gonzaga every year plays the most difficult Non-Conference schedule of any team in the country. In their first 7 games this season they played a top 5 opponent 3 times and went 2-1. They also played Bama, Texas Tech and St Mary’s this year. All who were ranked. Previous year 4/8 of their first opponents were all ranked top 15 or higher. Shall I continue?
Zags do this every year. Doesn’t make them a bad team or an imposter. The best team doesn’t win the championship every year. That’s what happens with March madness.
Ankle I will say Chet has a long ways to go, but he can be developed. The guys averaged a double double, 14 and 10 this season, 9.9 to be exact. He also was the 4th leading shot blocker in the nation. So defensively could still be a asset. But again you have to look back. He only played 26 minutes a game. I am not gonna further research, but how many times does your starting 5 play when you are blowing teams out. I think in the right system he can flourish, but no doubt he has to put in a ton of strength and conditioning work.chet needs to work on his self. he cant guard to save his life and has terrible foot speed.
Exactly. If you look at the final four squads, the play some tough games as well, but a lot of warm up cupcakes are mixed in cause they know record means something when you play in a tough balls to the walls conferencethe first 7 games in november can only do so much when you play future google engineers, politicians and vegetarians for 2 straight months. clearly gonzaga has shown when hit in the mouth by bigger, faster and stronger. they cant overcome it.
Vegetarians…so funny and so true.the first 7 games in november can only do so much when you play future google engineers, politicians and vegetarians for 2 straight months. clearly gonzaga has shown when hit in the mouth by bigger, faster and stronger. they cant overcome it.

stop. there is the power 6 and everyone else. usf will be bad again as will the rest. the rest are never ever good and st marys is hit or miss. byu hit or miss. sure the swac and meac are 1 bid leagues but their conference champ isnt recruiting like gonzaga either and given a green light to a top seed yearly. without google. who is in the swac and meac. u got 90 seconds. goYou act like the WCC is the SWAC or MEAC….The WCC sent just as many teams to the dance this year as the Pac 12. USF was a great team top 30 at worst all season long. Same with St Mary’s. Santa Clara and BYU were both top 50-60 teams.
The WCC outside Gonzaga will most likely have two guys drafted in the top 40 picks (kid from Santa Clara and Bouyea). That doesn’t include
Obviously Chet, and probably Strawther, with Timme maybe getting a 2nd round look.
I understand they aren’t playing the same schedules as an ACC or SEC team, but if you look at the lower teams in those conferences and the lower teams in the WCC (LMU, Portland, Pepperdine, USD, etc.) you’ll notice there are more similarities than differences. The WCC is getting more competitive by the day. Next season will drop off a bit but I still think it’s one of the better “smaller” conferences in NCAAB.
