Cougs freshmen pounded an apparently shorthanded (only 7 guys suited up) Rams group by roguthly 30…

But this JV game is a different matter. Two excellent teams are going at it…. right now, 34-30 Cougs, 6:40 left in the 3rd.

This series between St.Mary’s and Campo has been one of the better intersectional rivalries, year in and year out.

Cougs stand at 10-1 and the Rams are at 11-7, but this game will likely be a lot closer than those numbers sound.

St. Mary’s seven losses have been practically all close, and to good teams.

Of course, the Cougs’ only loss was to a Texas power who is now 21-4 and still ranked in the national Top 50 according to Maxpreps.

JV update, Cougs are threatening a takeover in the 3rd quarter, 47-32 now.

Bennett puts back a Radell miss…. 11-8. Big offensive board by Itcovichi, puts it back in and is fouled…. FT good, ties it at 11. 2:38 left.

Radell try jusssssssst rolls out, Rams go on the break and score… 14-11 Rams. 1:52 left.

Robeson in the game, knocks down a 3! 14 all. A minute left.

Cougs force a shot-clock violation…. Cougs should get last try. Great pass to Radell inside, but he charges, no doubt on THAT call…. 7 seconds…. Rams unable to score. 14-all at the end of 1.

Mansour to Vineyard, layup, 16-14 Cougs.

Rams draw a charge on Robeson. 7 munites…. Rams get up two shots, uanble to score, Cougs get a jump ball, arrow points the Cougs’ way…. Bennett scores inside, but Rams hit a 3…. And Mansour takes a corner 3 for the Cougs… BAM! 21-17 Cougs, time out with 5:48 left in the half.

Rams get a stop…. Marshall driving inside… and Radell takes a charge!

Strickland nails a midrange for the Rams to tie it at 21. Rams grab a rebound, fast break, Marshall fouled underneath. FT’s split. 22-21 Rams.

Marshall scores on a break…. 24-21 Rams…. Now Radell takes another charge! 2:39 left in the half.

The ol’ inbounds lob to Aidan, he scores, 24-23 Rams. Marshall gets a travel, Cougs ball.

1:48 in the half…Aidan takes a pass outside… looks things over, and pulls a 3… BAM! 26-24 Cougs, 1:37 left in the half.

Strickland nails a 3 from the corner…. 32 all… and the Cougs turn it over.

Great backdoor pass for the Rams, but Bennett has an answer. 34-all.

Cougs get a stop, then a great pass, Radell to a cutting Mahaney for 2. 36-34.

And the misses just keep on coming… until Robeson nails a wing 3! 39-34 Cougs. 3:25 left, Mahaney rebounds a miss…. Pass inside to Bennett…. It rolls jusssssssstttt out, but he’s fouled. FT’s both go. 41-34, 3:00 left.

Strickland with a nice drive, fake, score over Radell…. 41-36.

Bergen to Robeson…. Takes the 3… BAM! 44-36. Foul, a Ram to the line… 2 FT’s miss badddddddly. Football player….

NIce pass there to Strickland, hits a 3. 44-39.

And the cougs get a stop, Aidan takes another…BAM! 50-39. Now down to 11.9 seconds left in the 3rd…. Cougs stop the inbounds play, but are unable to take advantage…. 50-39 after 3 quarters.

Aidan pass to Bennett for a 3… BOOOOM!! 53-39.

Looks like the Rams are working toward the ol’ hack-n-hope…. They get a steal anyway, get it inside, and Radell with a flat-footed swat, held ball…. But the travel on the next play.

Mahaney with a million moves on Marshall, then shoots over him…. Nothin’ but net. 61-46. 2:35 left…
