Clarifying De La Salle's Playoff Schedule

Playing twice in 3 weeks is avoiding? Hardly. Only the SJS and CCS avoid DLS, not everyone in NorCal.
You may want to review DLS's schedule this year. It shows they played and won over two SJS teams.
Unless your talking about Folsom specifically who may have been avoiding a NorCal open playoff game against DLS. which may allow them to compete for D1 State. This year in SJS Elk Grove is the favorite.
Maybe they would give DLS a better game. Until this format changes we will never know.
Big picture though NorCal sends its best to State on all Divisons.

DLS hordes all the talent yet Campo and CVC continue to excel... both within 10 minutes of Winton Drive... Dont look now but Berean Christian is in the section finals ...

Another drive by post.

Bellarmine never will match the success of DLS due to the fact they have to share the talent base with the rest of the WCAL, something DLS doesn't have to do.

Clayton excels because they're in Division 2, recruit Pit players and run illegal practices. This statement has been proven, just Google NCS Clayton Lemon. Barely squeaked by MV earlier this year. Campolindo isn't very good either, losing to Napa.... LOL

There is no way in hell Campolindo is 10 minutes from Winton btw, don't know how fast you're going but just no. Clayton is even further than 10 minutes.

CCS doesn't avoid DLS, DLS typically schedules one CCS team every year in their non-league schedule, and it's usually a parochial/WCAL team. No public school in the CCS can consistently put up a competitive team year-over-year to make it worth DLS' time to schedule them, and even if there was DLS would still probably opt for a parochial CCS school. Certainly there are stronger public schools in the NCS they can schedule that would be a more interesting matchup for fans.

Phoenix

If high schools were held to the "influence prior to attending" via the CIF regulations in NCS there'd be a LOT of lawyering up, similar to the SRV kid going to Mack. My school and dLS are not immune to such. Observer 22 is accurate in response to my post. It is substantiated. It's not a secret, just a hush hush some alumni stubbornly refuse to accept. Crete's witty (as least someone has a sense of humor here) response of casting a small shadow is partially true. The claim it does not exist is as he terms it, "True Believers," doesn't wash with the masses. As far as soph transfers, one of your brethren who posted above outed them on NCP, not me. Make no mistake, I was pretty bummed when a senior inter-section transfer attended our school, while living with his "sister in an apartment." The lack of integrity is seemingly now accepted as part of the "seek your greenest pasture" for parents.

It must be only well known outside of the DLS circle... again, unsubstantiated rumors. If it was true, I'm sure it would be front page and the CIF would jump all over the chance to take DLS down. They have been looking for ways for decades. I understand not wanting to put names on a board, but I'd be happy to take a PM with names so I can look into it.

The only "talking up" is done by Alumni and Boosters, no different from any school. DLS does (or used to) run a football camp, that in itself could be said to be a recruiting tool, but I'd like to see how many of those attendees go on to play at DLS.

As for transfers, they go both ways as well described above. Not every "star" succeeds at DLS. When their star doesn't shine, they go run to a place where it will...

I know first hand the integrity the DLS program was built on. Nothing less is tolerated, to these coaches and the administration integrity is more important than winning; no matter what (always unsubstantiated) allegations are spewed on this board.

Kahlil Mackenzie was about as highly touted a high school player as they come and DLS didn't take long to cut ties with him once he decided to do things his way and not the team way. Kahlil also went to another well regarded program in CVC...haven't heard any noise about CVC recruiting Kahlil though. It works both ways, good football schools draw in good football players.

I'm well aware of the DLS schedule. They played 2 SJS teams, which is great and those teams should be commended for stepping up. They played 3 NCS teams in the regular season and another 3 NCS teams in the playoffs, and will now go on straight to the Open Bowl Game without an SJS or CCS team having to face them. The NCS teams that DLS beat in the playoffs (Cal, Pitt and soon to be Foothill) have no chance for bowl games, but even the teams that DLS beat from the SJS can still make bowl games if they beat other teams. Hence, they have avoided having to play DLS in a playoff due to the format. Call it the Folsom Rule as some have, but it allows all SJS and CCS teams, not just Folsom, to avoid having DLS spoil their postseason parties.

Obviously not that well known...... I follow DLS every year. If there was any truth to this it would have been all over the different forums. No one ever gives DLS a "pass" to omit this.....
Sounds like another unsubstantiated allegation. I'm sure there were kids from San Ramon, there always are. There are frequently 19 y/o graduates, for whatever reason that is beyond the school's control. If a parent held a kid back (for whatever reason), or failed a grade, or just has an early/late birthday; it is likely safe to say every school has a few 19 y/o graduates. This does not mean the school did anything "fishy". Bring us facts where DLS is complicit before you spread rumors.

No one said DLS is complicit in the kids repeating the 8th grade or that it was "fishy", and they are not allegations or rumors, just facts. DLS did admit them to the school. Whether they weighed the scholastic necessity of the individuals repeating 8th grade in the admittance process is only known to the school. The fact is they did admit a number of kids who have repeated 8th grade and graduated at 19, and it was unusual that it included at least 4 from San Ramon on that one team, and maybe some kids from other cities. Only people from those cities that know the kids would be aware of this. These are just facts. They don't require an investigation or denials.

observer22- good point regarding some very good NCS teams who will have a slim chance reaching a State bowl game-no fault of their own. Since most believe DLS should represent NorCal in the Open maybe they should be removed from the NCS playoff's (since they already beat those teams) and go straight to the Open Game based on their rating,SOS, evaluated yearly of course. Either way the current format needs to be adjusted to allow all teams equal chance to reach State Bowl Games.

Bogus ? Why don't you compare "apples to apples"

Palma - you say ? Salinas's population currently is 155,000. They couldn't even come close to supporting a 2nd private HS even if they wanted too. The fact they even were able Tie DLS 7 to 7 one season is incredible w/ how their area to draw players from is so incredibly less than DLS to choose or have enroll from.

DLS - the 40 mile Monopoly Radius w/ no other Private school for parents to send their kids to play competitive HS football. - Lets see how big of a Population DLS has to draw families from:

Concord 125,000
Antioch 107,000
Pittsburgh 305,000
Pleasant Hill 34,000
Matinez 37,000
Walnut Creek 65,000
Danville 43,000
Alamo 15,000
Lafayette 25,000
San Ramon 74,000
Dublin 43,000
Livermore 85,000
Pleasanton 74,000
Tracy 84,000
TOTAL POPULATION To Draw Players from = 1,116,000

The DLS area to draw from is 10 times larger than Palma's.

Now take Sacramento - They actually have at least 2 private schools who play competitive HS football. Jesuit and Christian Brothers. Christian Brothers in the 80's and 90's had kids go play at Santa Clara and St. Mary's college numerous times.

Sacramento's population is currently 479,000 - w/ 2 Private schools playing HS football.

Again - w/ just 2 private schools trying to get kids to come to their schools w/ a population of 480,000 is a heck of a lot tougher vs 1 school w/ a population pool of over 1,000,000 people.

And for your Fresno argument - Fresno Population 500,000. Again half the size of the DLS area to draw from. And their are other small private HS who play football in Fresno - Emanuel Christian - but, since they are Div 4 - I wont count them.

The DLS advantage in terms of the area and population to draw potential players from is tremendous over other Private and Public schools ant it is not even close.
Pittsburgh PA is a long ways from Concord LOL

That's what the Spartan Learjet berthed at Buchanan Field is for. Fly that one student home every other weekend when his family is not staying at one the team penthouses at the Embassy Suites Hotel

Remember that time we all took the jet for a joyride to Cancun for the weekend?
Didn't know Lad could fly barrel rolls...

I was on the So Cal board the other day and the consensus is that Bosco and Centennial will handle DLS. Word down there is that 2013 was the best DLS team ever, this and that. Since Bosco beat the "best DLS team ever" this season is a lock.

Not true. We are better this year. Hoping to have first teamers out by halftime this upcoming game. We should be able to handle the way both play. Been watching tape on them since week 4.

Just relaying the word on the street. Haven't seen Bosco but I think DLS will handle Centennial. Centennial is still fast but I've seen them with better line play before. Should be interesting.

That was Montana's Lear; or Mark Davis.'

Don't know who loaned the Lear but it is rumored that NOT one team member or coaching staff showed up for the free hairstyling offered by Davis's Amish barber-stylist which may have been the opening shot on the McKenzie saga.

........or not.
