Coach Clink has the wildcats #8 in the nation. Highest ranking ever for a Chico hoops team.
If you have a chance to see them play do so. They are IMO better than many of the low level D1 teams playing around the state.

There roster is loaded with norcal former stars including starters:

Jalen Mccaffery- Castro Valley
Tanner Giddens- Winsor
Robert Duncan- Granite Bay. (dunk on gabe york was sport center top 10)
Christoper Magalotti - St Mary's Stockton

I took two kids to their elite prospect camp and came away completely in love with their program. Coach Clink and his staff are top notch and the players were great kids and hard workers. There is no doubt where Chico will finish this year in their league. He won't be long in Chico I bet.

Thanks for sharing beyercoach. Great person. There aren't many better. I would love to see him get a crack at the Santa Clara job. (I think it will be available. Santa Clara is 2-7 and program needs another direction) Although I would hate to see him go but he's groomed a lot of good coaches. go cats!

Legend: Chico St is a great D2 program. Don't get carried away on the whole D1 vs D2 thing. The four players you mentioned are very good players.

I think what Larry is getting at and I agree with him is that if he can draw that kind of talent to Chico, who could he get at a WCC or another Division I program?

He has done a great job infusing energy in that program. I covered Chico before he was there and they were coming off back-to-back 20 loss seasons before he was hired.

He would build the program just like he did at chico state. I wouldn't doubt that for a second. (at SCU). This is not some huge leap. If anything everything gets better. Facilities, school, scholarships, etc. He's been highly successful at the D2 level. I would be willing to bet the same holds true at the D1. That roster should be filled with at least 3-4 Norcal kids and a handful of socal kids.

I've seen Coach Clink in action alongside some other coaches from major D1 schools at a clinic and he really stood out with his ability to teach and the energy he brings to the floor. Teaching and motivating are the keys to building a winning team and a strong program, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if his success at D2 translates to whatever D1 school hires him.

Very well said sheldoncooper. My exact thoughts. Good things happen to quality people. I'm sure he will have options. In the meantime try and get out to watch them play. Amazing how many local kids are playing in the CCAA.
