I’m in the nicely-remodeled Contra Costa College gym, awating the Campolindo v. Vanden game

Vanden is 9 up, 10 down, against a rather difficult schedule. Despite the numbers, I have an idea that they will represent themselves well here vs. the mighty Cougars, the Tough Kids from the Back Alleys of Moraga.

(The Cougs will have to be tough; this is their 4th game this week)

Vanden hits a 3 to start things…

Aidan hits a midrange j…. 3-2.

Vanden loses it out of bounds…

Aidan hits a corner 3! 5-3.

Hardy hits a long 2…. 5 -all.

Great pass to to Radell for an easy one, but Hardy right back with a score….

Matt inside again! 9-7.

Airball for Vanden, 4:35 left 1st.

Cougs airball, time out Vanden, 3:46 left in the first.

Vanden steps on the baseline..

Aidan takes and makes a 3! 12-7.

Hardy scores in mid-paint…. 12-9.

Vanden gets a stop, and Hardy scores again…. 21-11.

Aidan fakes a 3-pointer…. Travels. 1:42 left 1st.

O’Reilly with a steal…. length of the court for a hotly-contested layup…. GOOD!.

Vanden’s Tyler Thompson hits one from midrange…. And that’s the quarter. 14-13 Cougs.

Mahaney and Hardy each have 8 to lead their respective squads.

Cougs score inside, Tyler Bergren…. and Hardy nails a 3…. 16-all. 6:54 in the half.

Radell fouled, FT’s split. 17-16.

Vanden scores on a putback to take the lead…

18-17.

Robeson with a nice driver from the wing…. 19-18 Cougs.

Bergen drives and scores! Little guy don’t care…. 21-18.

Cougs rebound a miss, go on a break…. Wing 3-ball by Naffziger is GOOD!! 24-18 Cougs, time out with 4:35 left in the half.

Hardy fouled, hits 1 of 2.

Shane O’Reilly scores right back…. 26-19.

Great pass to Radell for 2…. 28-19.

Vanden, fouled, 2 shots. First missed, 2nd goood. 28-20.

Radell with a nice old-school hook shot for 2…. 30-20.

Hardy scores inside. 30-22. 2:00 left…

Hardy with a terrific spinning J…. 30-24.

Aidan takes it to the rack and scores…. And then he causes a Vanden turnover…. 18.6 left….

Pass to Aidan, hounded hard on the side, he don’t care…. Hits a J at the buzzer! 34-24 at the half

Nice bank shot by Vanden, but Cougs come right back, pass to Radell for an easy one…

Mikey Johnson for 2…. 36-28.

Aidan pass to Naffziger… BAM for 3! 39-28.

Steal, break, Bennett fouled…. FT’s split. 40-28. Radell draws a charge on Hardy! Cougs ball…

Terrif pass, Bennett to Radell, easy 2…. 42-28.

Bennett rebounds, take sit all the way to the rack for a score…. 44-28. Time out, 4:44 left in the 3rd.

Trrific moves and shot by Vanden, didn’t catch the name….

O’Reilly fouled, FT’s good. 46-30.

Hardy scores on a baseline inbounds play…. 46-32. 3:11 left in the 3rd.

Terrific Aidan to Matt-toShane for a 3…. BAM! 49-32.

Bergren goes right down the lane, easy score…. 1-32. Vanden scores on a putback…. 51-34.

Aidan with a nifty drive from the left wing for a score…. 53-34, time out. 1:02 left.

Hardy and Aidan exchange buckets…. 55-36.

Robinson scores for Vanden, 55-38 Cougs

Nice move by Vanden’s Thompson…. 55-40.

The two Tylers combine for a pair…. Bergren drive, partly block, but Vineyard score the putback and hits the FT. 58-40.

6:10 left…. Vanden’s McClanahan hits a 3! 58-43.

Aidan scores on a fadeawy, then a turnover, and an Aidan pass to Bennett for another bucket.

Cougs foul, Vanden hits a pair of FT’s…. 62-45.

3:54 left, Vanden time out.

Cougs are pretty much playing against the clock now…. Aidan, a couple plays ago, did a fine impression of those old “And1” shows, great pass to Bennett for a 3…. Anyway, now it’s 69-51.

I attended the Prolific/Compass game, as well as the 1st half of the Donda/Dream City Christian game. Here are just some notes I took mentally:

1) Prolific Prep is a really good team. I think Seck and Sensley are starting to become more valuable players to the team. Sensley hit a 3 pointer to essentially seal the game. Sensley has gotten taller since I last saw him...has to be close to 6'8 now. The Ben Simmons comparisons are real. Hes actually a better shooter than Ben ever was.

2) These prep teams are gigantic. I mean watching these guys warm up....it was a sight to behold. Crazy that between two games, every single player who started will probably end up at a D1 school or better.

3) Donda Prep...I was impressed with their gear. But with all that talent they should be doing much better than they are. Dream City was working them when I left the game.

4) These events are awesome, but when the main event starts at 1030....thats when kids can't watch the game, and parent leave early. If I were in charge I would have had 1 less game. One poor guy said he had been there since 7AM...it was 11PM when he said this.

5) Adem Bona is not only a fabulous player, but as others have said he is a kind man. Talking with everyone, taking pictures......I don't know if there is a player I'll cheer for more to have great success. On the court the guy is extremely fast for his height, and I feel he will be a high level rebounder at any level.

6) Jordan Pope is underrated. He's a little small, but the kid can ball. Great passer, great defender. Whatever school gets him is getting an absolute steal.

It is a marathon and not a sprint. Zion and mor are developing at a perfect rate.

Last night was very very high level basketball game. Both teams competed so hard. At minimum at least 4-5 future NBA players were on that floor. And that wasn’t included jonathon kuminga who came to watch.

Adem Bona is one of the nicest persons you will ever meet. And maybe top 2 player to ever play at prolific prep. He is easy to root for.

regarding #6. so do you think he would have been this advanced had he stayed at his local high school? did his move to PP make him even better and more desirable since he is smaller?

AZ Compass-Prolific Prep was one of the most exciting HS games I have seen. Multiple future pros on each side and a thrilling outcome.

Donda-Dream City felt like an under card game despite all the high ranked players. Donda seemed to lack structure and almost felt like AAU ball.

BTW no Yeezy in attendance. Biggest celeb in attendance was probably Jonathan Kuminga!

*ayalar was the biggest celeb. put some respeckt on that man name

yeezy was with julia fox and dj khale at a studio session

Its actually a fantastic event. The gym it was held in was beautiful. After a nice 49ers victory, I said why not? 30 minute drive from the city. When I arrived AZ Compass and Prolific were just getting started. Mookie Cook is a monster....will most likely be a top 10 pick in the 2024 Draft. Robert Dillingham was impressive as well, but the player who impressed me the most was Javonte Taylor on Donda Prep. OMG that kid is long, tall, can hit the 3, and essentially he can do it all. Like Cook hes also a Top 10 pick in the 2024 draft. I'll say Dillingham is more the 15-30 range, than Lottery, even though he is ranked higher than Javonte Taylor.
