I believe the Sac Joaquin Section has got it right. Double the enrollment of all private schools and then put them in the Division where they should belong and that includes Coed private schools like St Mary's of Stockton, which it does. It would be no different than having two schools side by side with different genders, they would double the enrollments and move them up into a higher division. Granted they do get students that are academically inclined but they do also get very good athletes and are not restricted to boundaries like the public schools. So why does the Central Coast Section not include coed private schools to double there enrollments for the placement of divisions. Let's campare apples to apples. Private schools do have the advantage vs public schools.

And if the Central Coast Section, and all the Sections would doubled the enrollments of private schools ( don't know which Section does ) we may have a more even playing field when it comes to sports. That would mean that almost all the schools in the WCAL would be Division 1 schools, J Serra might make D2. I believe that would be fair, when it came to playing against public schools. Most Private schools do field very good athletic teams for there enrollment size, no argument there. So why don't they ( CCS & others ) make it a more even playing field?

CCS doubles the enrollment of the all-boys / all-girl schools (I.e. Riordan 700 boys x 2 = 1,400 enrollment size.

But why don't they do it for their coed schools? At one time they were single gender schools, and more than likely had to move up in division back when they were. In making them coed, they actually have drop down a division to play against same size public schools. How can that level the playing field.

St. Mary's enrollment is NOT doubled by the SJS, but other private schools I have seen that have "boys only" (ie. Jesuit) do have their enrollment doubled. St. Mary's plays in a local D1 league by choice. There has been talks about St. Mary's moving to the VOL (D2) league, and it may even be more competitive than their current TCAL league. But, TCAL/SJAA leagues were recently realigned, placing cross-town rival schools together in TCAL (St. Mary's/Lincoln; Tracy/West; Lodi/Tokay) and SJAA. So, I do not envision this move to happen any time soon. Recently, Central Catholic was moved up to VOL and now competes with the likes of Oakdale and Manteca. Would be cool to see St. Mary's in this mix, too.

In recent past, based on the fact that they play in a D1 league, they were not allowed to play lower than D2 for playoffs and have fell into D2 for playoffs the last couple of years because of their enrollment (not doubled). This is due to the rule that states, "A school may only compete in one division lower than its league placement, but will compete in a higher division if its CBEDS numbers places it in a certain division." Prior to enrollment #'s being used, St. Mary's competed in D1 playoffs because they played in a D1 league. This year, if they win their TCAL league, they will return to D1 for playoffs due to new SJS playoff rule "League champions must play at or above the level of its league."

My bad, your right bulldogmgc. But they still play up in D1 or D2, and can compete with bigger public schools with a lot of success in league championships as well as section championships
