Dont feel too sorry for Campo

I'm with tri-valley....the School population that a lot of schools have, doesn't make a lot of difference if there is no or just a little skill to work with...Its all about kids coming out and wanting to win, playing as a unit....there are some awful good teams out their that could be winners with the right leadership, a good coach has every thing to do with it....

Great example is Logan. Massive student body with major demographic challenges.

Well ahlright........
No unscheduled truck load of quick set concrete delivered in your driveway early, tomorrow morning.

A while back I started calling the process of shopping your kid "Montana fishing" trips and I'm not referring to trout.

Is this a jab at the less than stellar academics at the University of Montana?

Fair enough. I was responding to Paul saying that something was wrong as now kids are looking for greener pastures, and had assumed he was referring to the little brother since he was the latest and most visible transfer away from Cal. I do remember the posts earlier this year and I am aware of the family dynamics. Nothing like the whole SRV/Mack debacle.

The SRV/Mack debacle is the gold standard of trying to get over.

Gotta remember Joe crossed the picket line during the walkout. Great player to most, lowest scab in the eyes of 90% of his peers in the NFLPA. Wouldn't expect much integrity from that family.

Coach Kevin Macy complaining that Campolindo with 1254 students faces Milpitas with 3100+ students. On the surface this seems like a mismatch but keep in mind that the kids that live in the Lafayette/Orinda area have the choice of three schools they can attend, Campolindo, Acalenes or Miramonte. Most of the best football players choose Campo and have the luxury of playing traditional D3 public school opponents. I venture to guess that the vast majority of Milpitas team is from a three or four mile radius of the school. With the exception of Strother, Milpitas has a big size advantage, but size isn't everything.

The combined enrollment at those three schools = 3827 as opposed to 3105 at Milpitas. Not that big of a difference.

Well, isn't that interesting. I'm sure Campo doesn't mind any of the accolades to being a highly ranked team, but seems to mind some of the responsibilities.

I guess everyone can just do what I've been recommending... rank them lower.

I have to chuckle when I see a remark like Cal 14, "rank them lower." For the benefit of the majority of readers of this forum, certainly all football coaches who run up against Coach Macy know this; he has been downplaying the accomplishments/skill level of his teams for as many years as he has been a head coach of high school football. A corollary is also true, he builds up his opponents to monumental proportions, all to project Campolindo as an underdog. It's as much a coaching technique as X's and O's, as he prepares his charges for another playoff game.

Whereas most knowledgeable football enthusiasts see right through his woe is me routine, he is genuinely able to convey this sense of being the underdog to his players to get them to perform better than the sum of their parts. As he prepares to coach his 70th game (over the past 5 seasons), he has found a formula that works for him and his players; even at the risk of inviting inevitable scorn from those who don't know or appreciate his motivation techniques.

When I saw the match-up I thought Campo got a favorable draw. Campo reminds me of Bellarmine on the lines but more balanced on O. Milpitas will have problems with Campos team speed.
Milpitas doesn't have team speed? Have you seen them play?

Sounds like Milpitas is a larger school but from the comments on this board nobody's giving them much of a chance (I dont know much about Milpitas). ....This is just my opinion but for Campo to be the powerhouse they are they always seem to schedule light in the preseason would like to see them play Concord ,clayton valley or teams like that in the preseason.Coach Macy will never be outcoached and his teams even in a loss havent been beaten soundly in a few years.Top teams ought to play top competition and not complain about who's put in front of you. Its not like Milpitas is De la Salle.

Next season you will get your wish as the East Bay Leagues are being reshuffled. With Dublin and Dougherty Valley moving on to the EBAL, the DVAL schools are scheduled to rejoin the DFAL, including Concord and Clayton Valley.

Campolindo hasn't ducked any of the local competition in the preseason. As you know, they have played El Cerrito several times over the recent past as well as D1 Napa the past few years. . Unfortunately, no EBAL schools want to take on Campo in the preseason (they've tried for several years) since it's a lose-lose proposition for the D1 EBAL schools who would get no credit for a loss and little credit for a win against a D3 school (for determining playoff eligibility). Credit D1 BVAL teams (Heritage and Deer Valley) and WCAL teams (SI & SHC) that have stepped up to play Campo in recent years.

Campo is having to cast its net a little farther and hopefully may end up playing a SJS section team or a southern WCAL team in the near future.

NCSF......Miliptas' running backs in a lot of cases against Campo were a step away from breaking thru or breaking tackles and they are fast....There passing game saw the receivers running patterns that the Campo defenders could not keep up with and what saved Campo was the interception, plus a 66 yard return...If the game had gone into over time, there was a very good chance that Milpitas would win as both the running and the passing were working except for all the penalties they drew....But Campo made the best use of the remaining time after the FG and the defense did a little bending, but held on....

I saw them play Bellarmine and some extended Antioch highlights. I was talking really about line play and in the box. Like Bellarmine just about every guy who touches the field for Campo is pretty athletic. Milpitas on the other hand has some dudes who aren't going anywhere too fast.

Campo is a legit program, but being complacent takes away from their accomplishments. Let the CIF & sections handle the set ups, takes away from the game & the kids to complain publicly.

Sutter 2 years in a row now have played teams in the regional almost twice their enrollment. No complaining or griping. Just ecstatic and honored to participate into December. Now we just need to win one. Dang it!!!
