Elk Grove beats Franklin-Elk Grove in series opener

In the first of three games this week, #11 Elk Grove held serve at home with a 7-5 win over #6 Franklin-Elk Grove.

The Wilcats got the board with four runs in the top of the first inning. Elk Grove tied it up with a pair of runs in the first and second innings. Following Franklin's run in the fourth inning, Elk Grove got three runs in the bottom of the sixth behind RBIs from Noah Carter, Eddie Madrigal and Ryan Zamora.

Elk Grove outhit Franklin 11-5 with seven of those hits coming from the top three spots of the order with Carter, Aiden Jimenez and Madrigal. Sam Frizzi started for the Thundering Herd and went six innings and gave up five runs (one earned). He gave up four hits, three walks and eight strikeouts. Jimenez pitched the final inning.

Franklin got three of its five hits in the first inning and overall, Nolan Stevens had a pair of hits. Hasani Johnson had two RBI.

Andres Galan started for the Wilcats and pitched into the sixth inning. He gave up seven runs and struck out five.
