Folsom almost upset by a very good el Camino team. Folsom prevailed 65-53 in OT to advance to champ game vs an excellent ponderosa team who I’ve been talking up on this board all year. Pondo is 8-0 and realistically has a chance to make a state run in d3 this year.
Folsom better play well or else I can see pondo winning this game .6”9 Aaron bliss is a kid to watch for the bruins. Pondo is also playing without several transfers who make this team even more frightening.

530 at Folsom. Should be good.

I like the tall kid. Pondo may want to take a few L's or they will end up D2 for state playoffs

Got to Folsom’s cavernous gym just in time for the 5th place game, Rio Americano v. Bradshaw Christian of Elk Grove. Rio gets a putback bucket just before the quarter buzzer to take a 15-14 lead.

Any of you planing on coming here, don’t let your GPS tell you what school entrance to take…. I think my car’s in a different zip code.

Hmm…. I was incorrect on the home team…. It’s McClatchy. Both teams are the Lions, I think, but just now spotted the McClatchy sweatshirt being worn by their coach. D’OHHHH!!!

Sure didn’t get much help from Maxpreps on that one…. Holiday tournament info, even some of the biggest tourneys, is often lacking. But…. My bad.

Made my way across the gym to the bracket posted…. Turns out Bradshaw Christian beat Monterey Trail in the 7th-place game 59-52. Now it’s halfitme, and McClatchy leads Rio Americano 33-27 at the half. One of Rio’s better players injured his ankle pretty early on in the first half.

Attaboy k-man spice up your trademark color commentary with some 32 caliber humor.
Can't believe you haven't been picked up & signed by some pay4 streaming service. We're/norCALpreps so lucky to get you for free.

Miles Lake is the injured player. He has a nearly 10ppg scoring average.

McClatchy gives up a couple easy buckets, time out with 3:59 left in the 3rd, 35-34 McClatchy.

cuddy be moving. f a rain storm. i dont even go outside in the rain.

McClatchy guard with a nifty move, drive, score, fouled…. and FT is good. 39-34.

Rio hits a quick flurry of 3’s…. 42-39 Rio.

And they get a stop, start a break, layup, foul…. Shot rattles home! FT missed, but it’s 44-39 Rio.

And that’s the end of the 3rd…. 44-39 Rio.

p.s. I looked up “Cuddy” on Urban Dictionary…. I hope you meant the G-rated definition. :)

Rio time out, 5:55 to go…. 46-45 Rio. Seesaw battle here. Lead has changed hands at least half-a-dozen times.

Rio with a steal and breakaway…. McClatchy answers. 48-47…. Rio #4 drives base, scores, fouled…. FT is good. 51-47 Rio.

Rio gets a stop, McClatchy fouls in an excuse-me oops fashion…. 1 and 1…. First good, second in and out. 52-47.

McClatchy fouled on a drive, FT’s split. 52-48. Nice pass inside for a score, Rio by 6…. And they rebound a missed 3. 3:27 left.

Rio’s #4 drives the left edge of the paint, fouled on a miss. Twice at the line. FT’s both good. 56-48, 3:11 left.

McClatchy now with the full-court press. Worked first try, got a turnover and 2 McClatchy FT’s. 56-50.

2nd try, Rio is fouled, 2 FT’s good. 58-50, 2:30 left. Looks like Rio is gonna finish this one out.

Indeed, Rio is doing plenty of things right down the stretch. Refs and coaches get together, decided to run off the final 0.7…. Final, 63-51 Rio.

Next up, El Camino (Sacramento) vs. Fortune Early College Prep, I think of Sacramento.

El Camino almost pulled off a big upset last night, losing by a pair in OT to host Folsom. They bring a 7-2 record into this 3rd-place game.

Fortune had a rough time with Ponderosa last night, losing by about 20. They are 4-7 according to the almighty MaxPreps.

On the surface, it appears this may be a mismatch, but ya never know…

Just noticed that Fortune brought a grand total of 7 guys. And I don’t see injured guys on the bench, either. 7-6 Fortune in the early going.

18-9 Fortune after 1…. El Camino’s nine points all came from wing 3’s.

Fortune’s got some bounce and some wiggle to their game…. I can’t help thinking their small roster numbers have contributed to theur 7 losses. Let’s see if they can hang on for the full 32 vs. El Camino…

Time out, 2:53 left in the half…. 22-20 Fortune. El Camino’s offense has been the 3-ball thus far. I think they have made 6 bombs, and one driving layup just before this time out.

That’s good, Ankle…

Meanwhile, El Camino has taken command as Fortune has gone stone-cold shooting. El Camino takes the 3rd quarter by a 17-4 count…. Score is now 44-31 with a quarter to go.

51-41 final. Next up, the title game…. Folsom vs. Ponderosa, a school I had to look up. It’s up Hwy 50 a ways, in Shingle Springs. They’ve had a few reasonably good teams here and there over the years, but nothing quite like this level.

Folsom has a pair of losses, but one of those was to an excellent Nevada power, Bishop Gorman. That was 56-50, one of only a couple close games Gorman has had thus far.

Drive and score by Pondo…. 2-0.

Nice turnaround hook by the big guy…. Aaron Bliss. 4-0. Folsom shot by #5, miss but fouled…. FT’s split. 4-1.

QUICK release corner 3 by Pondo for 3…. turnover, another Pondo score…. Suddenly it’s 9-1. Technical foul on Pondo, didn’t see what for…. Folsom splits a pair, their ball. 9-2. 4:26 left… Pondo gets a stop, time out Folsom after a foul. 9-2, 4:03 left 1st.

Pondo hits a 3 out of the time out…. 12-2.

Folsom unable to answer…. Another time out, Pondo ball. 2:51 left, 12-2.

Long 2 by Pondo #0…. 14-2. Folsom turnover…. The Dawgs need to get things going here.

Nice pass to Bliss for a soft layup…. 16-2.

Bliss swats a shot out the baseline…

ANOTHER Bliss swat…. Finally Folsom slows the bleeding with a fast break and layup. And they get another steal…. and layup.. 16-6.

And that’s the quarter. 16-6.

Pondo’s #20 hits a top-of-the-key J…. Folsom answers with a 3.

Okay’s THAT’S not fair…. Bliss nails a 3. 21-9.

Pondo steal, #20 takes it in for 2. 23-9.

Folsom miss, Pondo runs it down….

Pretty drive and floater by Pondo #30, answered nicely by Folsom. 25-11.

4:26 left in the half…

Holy moley…. Bliss sways one away, then finishes on the other end, very impressive. 27-11. Time out, 3:26 left in the half.

Bliss is taking this baby ovah! Scores with a hook, then goes back down and erases a shot…. 29-11.

A couple fans just below me are trying VERY loudly to rattle Pondo players…. They might wanna try another method.

31-13 now…. 1:22 left in the half.

Pondo starts things out with a corner 3… 36-13. Bliss clears the glass…. Pondo #20 drives, fouled…. FT’s both go. 38-13.

#20 Pondo driving floater for 2. Folsom finally gets a score. 40-15.
