Just hangin’ out if the very very nice Valley Gymnasium, halftime of the JV game. Bellarmine leads the Sacred Heart Gator by 3 into the break.

Anyway, the first varsity game tonight has all the earmarks of a potential blowout, the 3-0 Bells vs. 3-5 Hillsdale…. But the nightcap has all the earmarks of a classic!

The Sacred Heart Gators of Atherton bring a spotless 3-0 record with wins over Riordan, SRV and Inderkum into a battle with St. Francis of Sunnyvale, whose feature win thus far on their 4-0 record is a 7-point win over Moreau during the Oscar Frayer Memorial.

JV game was a good one, the Gators doing everything right to break open a close battle in the last 3 minutes or so and win by (I think) 59-48.

As I thought, at least so far the Hillsdale vs. Bells varsity game a[[ears to be a major mismatch. Bells lead 9-0 early on.

23-10 Bells after one. They don’t have a ton of size, but they play solid inside defense anyway. Also, they always seem to know where an open teammate is going to be, and get the ball there.

And they get in those passing lanes defensively. Impressive team, but I have an idea their average-at-best size will give them trouble in the WCAL.

50-30 after 3 quarters, Hillsdale fighting back a little against mostly the Bells’ backups.

52-37 now, and the Bells have a ton of fouls, double bonus the rest of the way for Hillsdale. 54-38, 5 minutes left. BIG swat by Bells…. But it looks like any comeback hopes are now dashed, as the Bells score another…. 56-38, 4:23 left.

61-41 final…. Hillsdale played hard right to the end, made what looked for all the world like a running-clock game brewing in the 2nd quarter into a reasonably competitive battle.

Lancers just ran that baseline inbound alley oop to near perfecton…. but the shooter missed, then clanked a pair of T’s. Gator drive and score, FT good. 40-30.

4:41 left. Gator steal, fast break… and a chasedown Lancer block! Guy who just got swatted drove again and scored this time…. 45-35. ANOTHER great swat, this one by a Lancer.. TIme out, 3:34 left 3rd, 45-35. This hoops nut is LOVIN’ IT!

Great call of the game, as always Kiddman. Whatcha think? SHP is the real deal!
Mitty, Riordan, St. Francis and SI are my top 4 WCAL squads. Serra, VC, SHC and Bells will have something to say when all is said and done. Would love to see a Campo-SHP matchup.

I agree 100% that SHP is for REALZ. Anyone on their remaining schedule, get ready to put an L there after ya play.
