Growing up in Brooklyn I learned to play pool and did some serious pooI playing.
I wasn’t old enough to go to the famous Johnston City pool hustle convention, put on by the Jansco Bros.

It was in an out of the way road house, in Illinois. It took place back in the early sixties. All the best players in America would gather in this place, in the middle of nowhere.

I get the same feelings being involved with the Gridley Invitational. It's Farm country, you walk into the Farmers hall, and old brick building in the fairgrounds, and there you are, seeing some of the best teams in the state.

Nothing beats watching the games unfold. All the pageantry. People interacting with strangers. To me there is nothing quite like it.

Games start Thursday 4 PM

4:00 -Dublin – Sacramento

5:30- Salesian – Archbishop Riordan

7:00 – Campolindo – Gridley

8: 30- De La Salle – Sheldon.

See you there

Here’s wishing you great hoops

I wish when I was associated with Riordan we did Gridley. You run a awesome tournament no doubt. Instead we did the Chaminade in So Cal. True story, my good buddy and a assistant as well and myself were sitting in the Chaminade gym one Saturday night watching the 3rd place team. This older gentleman came up to us. He said hello, you guys winning the big one tonight. We said hopefully and my buddy said hey sir, I see your wearing a warriors hat. You ain’t a front runner now since the Warriors beat the Lakers last night. His response, oh not at all, my son plays for them. His name is Gilbert Arenas. We chopped it up for the next 20mins. One of my best road tournament memories, one I will never forget. A great talking to strangers moment
