Half Moon Bay's wildly successful _ and, so far, unbeaten _ 2017 football season concludes this week with an appearance in the CIF Division 3A championship game vs. Steele Canyon. The limited-roster Peninsula team can ill-afford to be missing any of its key individuals. And that includes its outstanding kicker, Dylan Williams. He was injured in the second half of Saturday's game with Sutter and was unavailable in the fourth quarter. He isn't just a gifted kicking specialist; he's on the field most of the time, on both sides of the ball. His presence is critical. Without him, the Cougars are a different team in several important ways.

Agreed.... but he will be dressed and playing Saturday. BTW the location of the game just got moved to SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE IN CHULA VISTA. Still Saturday @ 6pm

There is a "HMB vs Steele Canyon Watch Party" for this game @ THE OLD PRINCETON LANDING in Princeton by the sea (HMB). It's a cool Mavericks surf / Sports bar that will have the game streamed on multiple TV's. Kick off is 6 pm. This place will be Jumpin'!!

Awesome.

I will not and can not pick against HMB. Go Cougars. It was refreshing to play against a team that was not full of punks. I would not worry about HMBs kicking. The kid that came in for 11 was just as good. At least that night he was. He put kicks into the extra bleachers in the end zone. I was like. What!!!

Should be a fun trip to Crenshaw for the Placer kids. Wing T vs the Run N Shoot. There are some good local bars near the high school to hang out at pre game. Killer Shots at most of them.

We don't mind the travel it's our turn we will be there, but let's play the big game for a D4AA title at a site in which the already home team doesn't play at or practice on everyday......that would be only fair imho.

I do believe playing in Crenshaw's back yard is a big disadvantage for Placer. That said, I think coaching will prevail in the end. And that favors Placer imho

The kids are excited and ready to go! Besides, that Salinas stadium was really different from what they are used to, and they managed fine. But maybe I'll bring a recording of train sounds to broadcast here and there during the game, so they feel more at home... (Anyone who's seen a game at LeFebrve Stadium will understand why)

It's a big adventure for them, traveling to and playing football in such a different part of California. They are looking forward to the challenge and are so happy to be playing in this game!

farmair3, which team/s are full of punks? Haven't seen any in the playoffs. Which team/s were you referring to, please clarify?

Its not advisable to discuss here since one of those threads got deleted. From what I can gather, farmair is not overstating. I think farmair is giving a great compliment to the Cougars and the HMB community. Way to represent!!!!

I wish HMB the best.. I've been keeping up with their winning ways.. I really hope they can pull this out..

Even 7 on 7 with these teams (add Burbank to the list) in the future would do the Hillmen justice when facing a team like Crenshaw, Dorsey, Carson or Garfield. I say this because I can see the Hillmen returning to the State Championship game in the near future if not next year.
FJ101,I totally agree on all counts,Coach Montoya understands this as well.As for the team this Hillmen squad returns All their players with the acception of 7 sr's.These games the regional and now the state are good stepping stones for next yr especially when the Hillmen will go up a level into a new league...this is all experience gathering time, lol.

But once again I will say(don't underestimate Placer, they could surprise).....wink,lol.

Most of the Placer players played youth football for PJH and Grant was in their league back then and they played them every year.

Again, they are excited about playing Crenshaw for a state title. It's amazing to be in this position, and they are so grateful to have the opportunity.

Pardon me for interrupting but what happened to Half Moon Bay vs. Steele Canyon?

Sorry for the thread hijack! In 2000 I moved to Auburn from El Granada, and I still have a lot of friends on the coast. I would have loved it for Placer to play HMB for NorCal. But this way, both teams have the opportunity to win State. So go, HMB!! Go, Placer!!

I went round and round with my Sutter friend and I still believe Placer/HMB would have been a heck of game, heck Placer/Salinas was a dogfight now that was a great game.

Which is a huge testament to Coach Keith Holden.

Half Moon Bay doesnt have a sqeaky clean history. I hated playing them because they were always a team full of punks. I wont elaborate on that but if you do a little digging, you will find a lot of regretable things that happened down there im the past.

Coach Holden came along and set that program straight. That team isnt just well coached, theyre well behaved by all accounts. Kudos to any coach who builds winners off the field above all.
