I thought San Jose St represented well last year by being out at all the local HS games. Brown was a interesting pick-up. Why has it been so hard for them to nab a top local player.

Huge turnover in players and coaches! Hopefully new guy can keep local home! We got talent in the Bay, schools need to find way to keep kids local. Grass ain't always greener on other side! Kids get home sick and transfer back home..

No one wants to play for a team that could not win a single D1 game last year... If you have two D1 offers and one is SJSU, you will take the other... which means they have to take guys who are very fringe D1 players, no chance at a "top local player."

Who is Brown?

Terrell Brown from Moreau. NCP currently has a feature on him. You never hear his name and he winds up with a D1 scholarship.. Why would they not go after Brandon Lawrence from Moreau? Well known name, recommit from Fresno St

Them being in the mountain west conference hurts them badly they should not be in
A power 5 conference. They belong in the wcac or big sky conference where they would be able
to recruit more bay area players who could have an impact in a conference that fits
there talent level.I Do give there staff credit for being more visible at various bay area games
And following more bay area kids.

They will be awful. Rotten.

The best D2 schools Cal Poly Pomona, Chico State, and Humboldt State are better than SJ State. I would much rather play in a winning program and go to a better school than say I played D1 and lose every game at SJ State. King of the midgets!

Larry,

See your comment above is exactly what I have been talking about. If it was Jordan Rahtino from DLS going to San Jose State you would say how much of a steal they got. How he would be 2 time all conference player and how he would get a degree.

Now its Brown from Moreau Catholic and its "Cal Poly Pomona, Chico and Humbolt are better than SJSU"

Rahtino is going to USF who is not that much better off interms of wins/looses and will never ever win the WCC. Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona and Humbolt would give USF the same problems they would give SJSU.

Congrats to Terrell Brown! A great kid who got a free college education (at a D-1 school in a Power 5 conference) because of his work in the classroom and on the court.

I would never say SJ State got a steal if Rahtino went there. Why are you so troubled by people who have good honest opinions. The program is terrible. Get over it. Big deal. Do something about it. Don't even compare USF to SJ State. USF is 35-30 over the last 2 years. Better school and great tradition.

Hopefully, SJ St will become more stable and a more viable option for local kids who are hungry to play and hungry for a free education. Happy for Brown who has been committed to improving his game for ten years.

My understanding is that they do not have a lot of scholarships available due to being in trouble! So for the next couple of years it will be hard to get local talent to go there. Brown is a very good player and can play at that level! Will SJS win? Probably not. But he getting a free education, bottom line that is all that matters in the end. And SJS feeds a lot of kids into the Silicon Valley job market.

Mountain West is not a Power 5 conference people. Please
understand the college landscape as it pertains to strength
of conference. (Everything has to do with Football)

Power 5 Conference:
Pac-12
SEC
ACC
Big 10
Big 12

Next Leagues in regards to basketball strength:
(In no particular order)
American Conference
Atlantic 10 Conference
Big East Conference
Missouri Valley
Mountain West

Sjsu was so badly depleated last year they had to use some football players to help out. They haven't been good since St Jean was there and that was a long time ago.

They need a coach in there with some California/norcal-socal ties. New AD hired a buddy from Boise state. Place has been a COMPLETE mess the last 2 years. Walk ons and football players STARTING...... It is embarrassing to be in that conference and perform so poorly. Revolving door for assistant coaches too, not a good sign. Probably need to scrap things and bring in a new coach. The Mahoney kid who walked on there will probably be in the mix for big minutes this year....

USF great tradition? Stop. Their last conference championship was 33 years ago. Their last tournament appearance was in 1998. In the last 35 years they 3 NCAA tournament appearances and they play in a non power 5 conference. Did they have a great run in the 70s/early 80s? Yes but that does not equate to a "great" tradition. I can't think of their last 1st round NBA selection.

NSBasketball-

I think either one of those young coaches would be a benefit to any of the bay area college coaching staffs. They are probably both only a few years away from making the jump.

Greg clink from chico state or craig McMillan from santa rosa junior college would
also be great choices to take over that program.McMillan has built a solid program there
and with his experience at arizona and time spent in the nba he would do great there

Good call bones40. Clink has been incredible at Chico and Mcmillan could be a major D1 coach if he wanted that stage. He has the hoop acumen. People forget he started on those great Arizona teams.
