JUCO All-State Teams

Any word on jack newman from ccsf? He’s an analy kid that did very well. Gotta land somewhere.

Nothing against these deserving kids being recognized, but when I read All-State Teams, I figured there would be a 1st and 2nd team, not 5 separate teams by region. This seems more like All-Conference than All-State. Do they have an actual 1st team All-State team or is this as far as it goes?
Everybody gets a trophy and recognition it’s a feel good society we live in.

I still enjoy looking at all state, all league and all area high school football selections between Christmas and New Year. I'm such a freak I sometimes follow these guys after high school to gauge their level of success in college. One thing for certain is many of these guys can dominate at the high school level with less than 100% effort and commitment. Few can shine at the next level without their very best efforts.

Not a lot of Sacramento area guys. I know of quite a few guys that graduated in '19 and '20 who were dominant HS players who found "other" things to do during the COVID year. Unfortunate side effect from the shut down. Congrats to the guys who persevered and are still grinding.

I think the very first list titled All-America for some reason is the All-State list. Then it breaks down into regions.

Good point Streak, that probably explains why there are only 5 freshmen on the first list

not really pandemic to blame. if at 18 or 19 you already were an addict that was a trainwreck waiting to happen. plenty of college athletes are high as kites and still playing. see chris herren.
Here's a Story I wrote for NCP's when i was a writer for the website.
Fall River Dreams
The author is Bill Reynolds, noted sports writer.

It’s another book about place and time. The book is mainly focused on the early 1990s, Durfee high school, and Chris Herren, from Fall River Massachusetts.

Chris Herren made it to the pros, and has his own book “Basketball Junkie”, about his rise , fall, and rise again, dealing with addiction.

“Fall River Dreams” gives us that feeling when High School basketball was everything for hard scrabble small towns.

The grandfather played, then the son, then the grandson. Generations, going to games, building on history, bragging rites and heartbreak.

The author becomes inspired to start attending the local games. One night while making conversation he asks an older fan, which did he think had been the best all-time Durfee team? The guy says I can’t answer that. And the reporter asks why not? The guy says, because I’ve only seen every team since 1962.
Now how’s that for some perspective?

What can I say, I love me some hoops. If you take the chance, I hope you enjoy this read

Here’s wishing you great hoops
