The M-A situation was a nightmare. The sisters played for the Bears, and played very well, until late January when, without public fanfare, they simply bailed. They quietly left the team but remained at M-A and finished the semester. Why they abruptly abandoned the program has never been adequately explained. There were various reasons offered, among them parental unhappiness, but M-A people were told not to talk to the media; the sisters were mum as well. With the sisters on the M-A roster, the Bears were loaded, probably the strongest public school female hoops personnel, top to bottom, in decades on the Peninsula. Without them, M-A was OK but certainly not special; getting routed at home in a NorCal Division I semi-final game was testament to that. For the Bears, who lost just three games all season, it was a case of what might have been.
