Havin’ a pizza before heading in…

Oakland is holding a Maxpreps state ranking of #32 with a 10-0 record.

SRV is 5-2 and ranked #62 in CA by Maxpreps.

Should be a good one….

Just in case you're wondering why I disappeared... Long story.

For some reason, my phone app got signed out (I blame the shaky wi-fi at SRV's gym, and also the really lousy phone/data signal there). And, for some reason, the password stored in my phone wasn't correct. Couldn't do anything about it til I got home.

And that wasn't the only strange thing about my day. That all happened AFTER I made my way down from Mountain Mike's to SRV HS, a trip of... What, a quarter mile? As soon as I got in my car, I saw a WHOLE LOT of cop cars with red&blue xmas-tree lights going all out. WTF was that? And it appeared to be right in front of the school... My first thought was... a shooting incident?

I pulled over and tried to find info on my phone about any current police goings-on at SRV High School... Found absolutely nothing. So, I went and parked a block or two away from the commotion and walked up, fully prepared to get told by a cop to just stay away. If that had happened, I probably would have just jumped back in the car to see DLS's game, one which should be an easy blowout over Vallejo.

Nope, nothing like that. I even asked a few people who'd walked closer to the glut of cop cars if they'd seen or heard anything. Nope, nuthin'. So, in I went. Later, I did hear that there had been some sort of arrest incident there, maybe involving a gun... But not ON the campus, they just happened to surround the suspect (if that's what it was) right smack in front of the school, and apparently in a reasonably peaceful manner.

Anyway... Once I was in, that's when the connection mess happened.

I decided to use the Notes app and put a few things about the games there.

Freshman game was a running-clock game, 79-29 for SRV.
JV game got a little more interesting in a strange way... After 5 minutes, the score was... 0-0. I'm not sure I've ever seen a game that went that long at 0-0 before. Finally, SRV made some shots and appeared to be on the way to another clocking... 27-8 at the half. Oakland stood up strong in the 2nd half, however, and had the game almost in-reach late in the 4th, but SRV held on 48-40.

So far, not-so-great... But the Varsity game was fantastic!

SRV started out well, and Oakland couldn't get a sniff of a bucket early on. Within a minute or so, it was 7-0 SRV. But Oakland looked tough despite the misfires. Not a lot of size, but they make up for that in speeeeeeeeeeeed! First quarter ended up 13-5 in favor of SRV, but it sure looked a lot closer than that...

Oakland pulled within 3 a couple times in the 2nd quarter, but a twisting layup by SRV at the buzzer made it 29-22.

Oakland kept on coming, actually getting the lead by a 32-31 count at 3:35.

By the 2 minute mark, the lead had swapped hands several times and was tied at 50.

A big 3-pointer by senior Duke Beardslee and three of four FT's by freshman Mason Thomas were a big part of SRV's strong finish as SRV did all the right things to close the game out and win 61-54.

*********

Tomorrow night, my gym-o-the-evening is... CAMPO! The Cougars take on a very strong group of Lancers from St. Francis.

The police at SRV might've been because of an anonymous tip that NFHS was going to do the simulcast online. Based on their previous modus operandi of earlier broadcasts another sportscasting crime was about to be committed. The police were there being proactive.......and it worked, no frustrating broadcast copycat crime was committed.
