The league's poobahs have decided to allow each district (and perhaps each school in each district) to handle its own indoor athletic offerings this spring. Apparently, official PAL schedules have been tossed into the crapper. It's every man for himself in this bizarre pandemic-rattled "season." The PAL embraces five different public school districts, a total of 17 schools. Each district is dealing with the pandemic's prevention tactics in its own manner. District administrators and trustees are wary of indoor sports with other districts that may not adhere to the same virus-related restrictions and protocols. This is occurring at the same time San Mateo County is opening up as the impact of the pandemic eases dramatically.

As of this morning, the PAL website has been scrubbed. Schedules for indoor sports have been removed.

The PAL commissioner, Terry Stogner, should be given the Patience of Job Award for his efforts to handle this mess.

Jefferson High School District, SSF High School District and San Mateo High
School District have told the High Schools, "No Playing in Orange Tier,
must wait till Yellow Tier" Looking at the data on San Mateo County Health Dept,
color tier isn't happening next week. I'm being told that possible numbers
might be changed based on the Vaccination count, but not guaranteed.
At least all will be back to normal on June 15th?

It is NOT coming from the District Level. It is much higher than that.

In fact, the CIF rules per the California Department of Public Health were last published 6 days ago. The rules still require that counties be in the Yellow Tier in order to play indoor sports. Unless a waiver is granted, no basketball will be played until and unless the Yellow Tier is reached.

CCS authorities are set to meet Wednesday to discuss basketball playoffs and, perhaps, NorCal playoffs as well.

They can meet, but unless we reach Yellow or CIF changes the rules, it's irrelevant, however games in some locations are being played

Half Moon Bay has been playing games for nearly a week. Boys and girls appear to be intent on playing in CCS post-season. Yellow tier is not on the immediate horizon. SM District begins in-District play Thursday and Friday. No word re CCS playoffs. Like HMB, still not in yellow tier. WCAL is full-go. Same situation with yellow marker.

On a slightly different note, as you might gather from the above posting, there is no Peninsula Athletic League basketball this spring. All PAL member schools/districts are essentially on their own to play or not play, depending on virus-caused safety rules and health protocols. So far, it's a mixed bag. A very mixed bag.

As I said in another thread, it's the wild west. Some districts aren't even allowing player's families to attend. Some districts are requiring players to wear masks while playing. None of these are backed by science.

The school folks, who are flying blind much of the time, are paranoid about making a big mistake and being blamed for a covid outbreak that gets loads of negative publicity and, perhaps, a lawsuit or three. All of this is uncharted territory.

Colhenry, what bothers me most is the lack of a coherent plan for a county, a region or the state. There are none. In large measure it's due to the myriad of elected school boards throughout the state. There is very little oversight of any of them so they each make up their own rules, policies, procedures, etc.
