Another coach stepping down. Too bad, he was an alum and an on campus coach (He will continue at the school as a special education teacher). Recently removed from AD role and had a four season record of 24-16. Personally I see a great advantage for schools to have on campus coaches. I believe it is a significant positive influence on the kids, school, program, and community to have a coach with a total presence at a school.

Gifford said. “Unfortunately there wasn’t an alignment of values.”.

There are others following suit soon. Every school should have an internal weights program and priority to on-campus Teachers. The Admin that haven't figured out that HS Athletics produces an increased school climate are foolish. I hope they can't find a coach, then the Principal and AD can take over the program and realize the commitment.

The exodus of coaches from the region continues. Nelson did a nice job building back up the program.
"....exodus......from the region continues." Did Coach Nelson move out of the area or did he step down from the coaching position but continue to teach at Paly High?

Meant coaches who are no longer coaching in the region. Could have worded that better.
“Another coach in the region who has stepped down”

“Added to the list of coaches in the area who has walked away”

“The trend in the area of coaches leaving continues”

And my wife says I got way to much time on my hands and I need to find a job? Yeah right!

Hopefully this gets Paly back on the road to respectability. It was really tough watching them circle the drain while that guy was in charge.

It is crazy…. Moreau and O’Dowd both went with off campus coaches when they had viable in campus options. Problem is AD thinking they know but not listening to section and CIF WANTING on campus coaches… better for kids

Off campus coaches can make it work. It’s is twice the amount of time, work and effort to do what an on campus coach can. But it can be done.

No doubt.. but like you said twice the time and effort. Nobody getting rich coaching hs football. If you have a solid on campus option it just seems to be better move

There are plenty of coaches around here who clear 6 figures a year from coaching, it's not too bad of a gig.

Name the off campus coaches in the Bay Area “clearing six figures” off just coaching
Doubt there are very many that make that kind of money just for the HSFB coaching gig. Typically, such paid coaches have other full school-year jobs in the school district as their main job.
