Not here to bash you or Folsom, and I know you're hurt and a little humiliated.But Id like to discuss what happened last night,from an Xs and Os perspective.Folsom should be better than that.You seem to be pretty plugged in to the program.Was it the game plan?I just expected more from Folsom and at times they just looked defeated early on.After DLS returned the opening kickoff for a TD,seemed like that set the tone.

G61 was sort of funny at First. But it went too far and became nonsense. Almost all of us are just really passionate fans with a good feel for the game. I rarely find anybody coming totally out of left field. You can love a team but try and be objective.

Yes, I still think Folsom beats Los Al. Folsom demonstrated last night that they will still struggle against physical teams. Los Al demonstrated the same thing when I saw them play Santa Margarita. They also struggled to hold off San Diego Lincoln and Buchanan. 2nd half adjustments do not seem to favor Los Al, as they blew a 14-point lead on the Eagles and nearly blew a similar lead against the Hornets.
Wasn't Pasty/G61 the person that was going to Concord a few years ago to see Folsom @ DLS? Bulldog fans were asking where was a good place to eat and the Spartan fans, in kind, recommended the famous Rocco's Pizzeria and even welcomed all of them to join and meet up pre-game or post game. G61 said he'd be there too and was posting back and forth with folks wanting to meet him that he was on his way, nearby, but was a no-show? Very bizarre.

1. Folsom was not ready from the start. I think the moment was frankly, too big for them.
2. DLS just came off a big loss on national TV where they were manhandled. That doesn't happen in their own backyard. They had something to prove, and they did.
3. Folsom offensive line was laughable at best. DLS basically played a prevent defense for much of the game and still ran the Folsom QB ragged. This was an embarrassment of epic proportions. The entire line can't stop 3 rushers!?
4. Folsom defensive line, and defense in general wasn't bad. I think they had enough to win if they could put a few scores on the board. Credit DLS for sticking to the run.
5. Folsom gameplan of passing 50 plus times into a prevent defense was awful. No running attack at all? Terrible.
6. DLS QB is pretty bad in general. But he doesn't seem to make mistakes and even completed a nice 5 yard throw for a TD when he needed to. That's all they ask of him.
7. Folsom seemed to get it going on offense for a while and seemed to have the DLS offense stuck in the mud towards half. But they could never get the big plays they needed, while DLS capitalized on mistakes. I still think not having a run game against DLS is a killer. Folsom couldn't use much clock and therefore got choked out on defense when DLS simply ran it 50 plus times. Tough on the defense.
8. This is likely one of DLSs worst teams in a while, IMO. For context, that still puts them #1 or #2 in NorCal. Crazy thought. They simply play a style of football that Folsom doesn't see and simply can't counter. You can see the talent all over the field for Folsom, but they lack the top tier line play....and against DLS, if you can't succeed in the trenches, you are toast.
9. I think Folsom is a bit overrated this year personally. I think the SJS as a whole is down, as well as the SFL. Rocklin is a very solid team, however not in the ballpark of DLS or some of the WCAL teams.
10. I told you earlier in the week I really like the DLS TE. He is a stud both ways. Had a nice long TD that broke the back of Folsom.

Folsom's defensive line was horrendous. Thats why they had to run blitz 9 guys every play. Unless of course we consider those 9 guys as the defensive line. In that case they were pretty good

Worst part about it is that he, according patsy anyways, was actually there at Rocco’s that night when Folsom’s team of the century got shut out. and he didn’t step up and meet the what?…maybe 10 of us. Something I overlooked going into this game, but I did think DLS would win this. Pittsburg definitely exposed some holes in Folsom’s offense. They shut down the Folsom run game and challenged the pass game sporadically. Both things DLS exploited in this game. It’s okay Folsom, now you know how so many good NCS teams have felt over the past 30 years 😂
One was expected, one was a toss up, the other was a shock.
I’ve said this many times and I’ll say it again. To compete with DLS a team has to match them on the lines. Any team that can somewhat match them has a shot. Those that cannot have no shot. It doesn’t matter how good their skill players are.
Folsom has only had 2, maybe 3 teams capable of it. 2014 and 2015 didn’t play DLS and 2018 played a scoreless half ultimately losing 14-0.
Their current 2021 team lost the battle of the lines, decidedly, on both sides of the ball. The Spartans defense often got pressure and disrupted Folsom’s offense rushing only 3-4 defenders. Defensively, Folsom couldn’t slow the Spartans rush attack like they did in 2018. There’s your ball game.
More than just that, I just believe Folsom’s way of doing things makes DLS a poor matchup for them. I know that sounds funny, as DLS has been a bad matchup for most everyone for the better part of 40 years. But stylistically it is true.
A lot of folks on this site loved to dig on Grant Union and Coach Alberghini for their “archaic” pro style i-back offense. But that was the type of team and offense that poses a much more difficult challenge to a fundamentally sound team like DLS. Because beyond being big, athletic, and fast, they were super physical. On both sides of the ball. But also had the skill talent to back that up.
The type of offense or it’s sophistication doesn’t matter. DLS themselves have proven that. They run the run-heavy veer for Pete’s sake. While it can be argued that archaic offense causes DLS issues when they face top 25 National level teams — it hasn’t caused them problems for everyone else. Because they are typically superior than their opponent in three facets.
Physicality, stamina and execution.
Folsom has skill talent, but they don’t typically have the size, athleticism and most of all physicality on the lines to really threaten DLS.
Furthermore their offensive system is too one-dimensional for the super-disciplined Spartans defense. I’ve noticed this with Troy Taylor’s system at Sac State as well.
Whenever his offensive system faces a highly disciplined defense that tackles well, it tends to struggle mightily. IMO among the biggest reasons why is because his offenses don’t run the ball conventionally. And are much more finesse oriented.
Lots of QB runs and even when they have a talented back, there’s not enough “power” in the run blocking.
Sure, it’s successful against certain types of teams. Especially those lacking physicality themselves. But not so much against physical teams, and those that play very disciplined defense and can tackle.
DLS has been one of those types of teams for 40 years and was again last night. Until Folsom plays them in season where there isn’t much if any disparity on the lines and in physicality, the result will likely continue to be the same.

TR, agree about the matchup styles. That is another reason why I think they don’t fare well in the WCAL and why those teams play DLS well. (Historically). I think Rocklin will pose some challenges because they are much more physical than Folsom.
I think Rocklin’s shot against Folsom went out the window with Kenny Lueth‘s injury. I don’t think they’ll score enough. But we’ll see.
They only beat Oak Ridge 21-0 but it would have been more of a blow out had Lueth played.
Also, while Rocklin’s defense has been good, I’m not sure it’s good enough to slow Folsom they way they‘ll need to.
But you’re spot on regarding the physicality.
I forgot how vital guys like Ngata were to the run game. They allowed Folsom to run somewhat of a balanced attack. But again, they had the size and speed on the lines to get it done against most teams.
The offensive line was below average against DLS.
I agree. I like Rocklin this year and they are fun to watch. They are the best team Rocklin has rolled out there since the last time they won a state title.
As with the last 10 years, Folsom does to SFL teams what DLS does to everyone else. Rocklin simply won't be able to stop them or score enough points to get over the hump. Folsom wins by a few scores, if not more.

It amazes me every day how some people can get some spun out about this. But I guess this is some of the fun in it. After a few beers with a few of my buddies, we love to scroll through this stuff- it is truly amazing. I guess some people just don't get it. Some do!
