The Pitt band is world class and has performed at Queen Elizabeth's bday a couple of years back. This year they've again clinched the Walnut Creek "The Nut" trophy for best band in their 2015 Twilight festival. Their entertainment tonite to the delight of Vacaville and Pitt fans was the SuperMario theme song which they performed at Walnut Creek last Saturday. Great band and great win for Pitt 34 vs Vacaville 24.
These two teams haven't played each other since I could remember( unless they did much much earlier). So it was a good matchup of two powerhouses. I remember two years or so back when Vaca was really strong and beat Granite Bay, and posters here were touting a Pitt-Vaca matchup. Well today it happened and I hope it does each year or so going forward. I was actually impressed with Vaca and they really made Pittsburg nervous in the 1st half as they scored first with a FG and then a touchdown. The Bulldogs speed was phenomenal, the QB was quick to the draw and the line having similar play strategies as DLS. They move forward right away after the snap and many times caught Pitt unawares and they do these trick plays where the runners come from left and right and center---and they at times achieve good yardage towards the right (always) with their speedy RB, and the QB can run. And boy have the got huge lines. The Pitt D, however, stepped up and many times keep them where they started, didn't move the ball very far at all except for a few times. They got tricked by Pitt in the last 3 or 4 minutes of the 4th when Pitt started blitzing the QB 4 times and they turned over on downs at the last 2 mins---score was already at 34-24. I think Vaca this year is not that strong but despite that, they scared Pitt in the beginning. Pitt's QB was not doing well with the throws and was slow to the draw. The offense were many times not in sync but Pitt's runners were good eventually as they find holes in the center as well as on the sides. Those runs killed the Bulldogs real good in the end. Vaca seems to have a good program too--their JV beat Pitt, 28-7, so we should expect a really good revenge match next year if they meet again at varsity.
