We have one of the most extended daisy chains we've seen in a long time, with regards to how teams are potentially ranked.

Oak Ridge lost to Vacaville.

Vacaville lost to Cardinal Newman.

Cardinal Newman lost to San Leandro.

San Leandro lost to Campolindo.

Campolindo got blasted by Aptos.

Aptos just edges Palma.

Aptos got blasted by Salinas.

Will this mean that despite losing badly last week, Aptos could actually make a big jump over 4 teams, possibly bring Palma along for the ride?

Do Liberty and Monte Vista also join this fray?

I think it's clear that Salinas belongs at the top of all of this around 16 or 17.

Working on ours now (goingto be out Tuesday to wait for the CVC-Benicia game). It is quite a daisy chain being built now. I do think San Leandro/Campo drop out of this list based on other results. Salinas is a really tough team to peg, but 16 or 17 seems about right.

It actually seems a pollsters dream. 😄

It's when there's the intermingling that it gets tougher.

In close inspection, Salinas' wins aren't that different from Los Gatos. The Wildcats are still riding the win over Monterey Trail, but the Mustangs are now 0-4 and staring 0-5 in the face with a meeting with Clayton Valley Charter.

Newman Beats SL by 2-3 scores if they played again. Coach Sanchez first game at newman and they were awful. He made great adj last 3 games and they are starting to play better.

Newman Beats De Anza by 17 and De Anza the week before played mcclymonds tough in a 14pt loss. Marin Catholic just got beat Mack. I think Mack and MC would both Beat Newman.
Strange year

I don't think MC should drop very far. Maybe 2-4 spots. We will probably not completely know about McClymonds until they play Pittsburg.

De Anza may end up being better than what I initially thought.

Cal High also looking pretty tough so far. 4-0 vs. teams that aren’t juggernauts but all are good wins. Freedom only lost to San Leandro by 11 the week before being mauled at home by the Grizz by 50.

Cal 49 - James Logan 7
Cal 48 - Antioch 20
Cal 70 - Freedom 20
Cal 41 - Milpitas 7
Total Cal 208 - Opponents 54

Combined record of those teams: 3-12.

None of those are really good wins.

Fair enough. But those are teams that have traditionally been tough, and Cal took care of business winning much easier than other good teams who played those teams much closer. For instance Monte Vista beat Logan 25-14, and SRV beat Antioch 21-17 this week.
I know, a win is a win, but figured this was fair game in a daisy chain thread.

As a Cal High fan I'm guardedly optimistic. They really haven't played anyone yet, but they are mauling everyone they have played. I see this week against Dublin as a possible trap game, with CVC game coming up soon. Dublin has a pretty good team.

The surprise team in EBAL so far IMO is SRV. They have played well under their capabilities and will need to up their game to compete in league. I will be at SRV homecoming Friday night watching a friend's son play against Las Lomas, another team to not be taken lightly. If my old brain remembers and Crete knows I'm old, I will report scores on that game.

This gets dangerous to compare scores, but San Leandro needed a big comeback to beat Freedom and then this past week, San Ramon Valley won a one possession game over Antioch. Not a strong schedule so far, but I think Cal is for real. Wouldn't surprise me if they are team #2 or #3 in the EBAL

The good news for SRV is they are now in the NCS D2 division. After going through that EBAL Mountain gauntlet in league, they’ll have to be one of the favorites in D2.

I agree that comparing scores can be misleading in isolated cases. However, when Team A beats Team B by 6 and Team C beats Team B by 49, that's pretty clear that Team C is probably better than Team A.

But, in multiple games, margin of victory is a very useful tool. Team A beats B, C, and D by 7-10 while E beats them by 20-27? Far more times than not, Team E will beat A by about 13-17.

By the way, how did Benicia remain in the rankings at all, much less in the mid-20s? They've played only one quality opponent and got completely smashed.

I was thinking more if you don't know game flow. Team A and Team B beat Team C 35-14. Team A was up 35-0 after three quarters. Team B was tied 14-14 before three fourth quarter touchdowns. Those results are different IMO

On Benicia. I thought about it, but I tend to give the benefit of the doubt when teams reschedule games on the fly. But I can see the argument to drop them completely.

So, CVC didn't also schedule the game on the fly?
