Riordan vs. St. Francis

Yes. Not sure my 2 yr old would make it past halftime before the holy terror sets in lol

21 -21 H. SF scoring drives set up by terrible kicks/punts giving Lancers short field for scoring drives. Riordan has an 80 yd, 93yd and 40 yd scoring drives. Great turnout! Great football game so far!

Looks like the traditional powers sans Serra is Riordans achilles heel. 33-21 now, with 8:21 to go in the 3rd. Bells, Valley, and SF now unless theres a big turn of events. SF will have earned that co-title.

Riordan answers with a TD catch by Boone, but miss the PAT. 33-27. Can they gey a stop now?

Big stop for the Crusaders. Take over on downs from their own 8. Will need at least one more stop and 2 scores to pull this out.

5:15 to go and SF picks off a pass deep in their own territory. Could be Riordan's last gasp till CCS.

its over sf wins the kicker [ a female soccer player] MADE ac 42yarder she could prob beat the riordan soccer team by herself

Or at least tie them, since she is the goalie and going to Santa Clara on a ride!

Regardless of the defeat and Riordan's seemingly modest 4-3 record in the WCAL, they will be a huge problem in the CCS playoffs.

Agreed! Its been a banner year for the Crusaders and now time to cap it off with a title! Go Rabbits!!!

36-27 St. Francis Final. Riordan kicking / punting doomed the Crusaders. Pretty hard for the defense to stop the SF O on short fields. Also Lancers block punt and recover in end zone for a TD. Game close throughout and a great tune up for both teams' CCS/post season runs.

In retrospect, Riordan's 4-3 league mark, like Serra's 4-3 ledger (and Valley Christian's, a courtesy member of the now Mostly Catholic Athletic League), is very deceptive. The WCAL/MCAL is unforgiving. Make a mistake or three and, pow, you get punched right in the midsection. And, lo and behold, you have three league defeats. And, of course, the reverse can be true as well.

Isn't Valley Christian going into the D3 Open too?
Pretty sure VC will stay in Oepn DII along with St. Francis and Mitty. Their enrollment is right on the edge of Open DII and Open DIII this year.

Before, I try to Rant about this wonderful match at the epicenter of football in San Francisco:CCSF.

I would like to point out two things that struck me as the keys to this day.

It was senior day and as some would think it may have been a distraction, I found it as one of the best senior days, I have ever attended. The attendance of Riordan families, Alumnist and Student bodies could not have been better. Additionally the cultural diversity by the families in recognizing the young men as the played their last league game was very prideful. As other city programs sulk and find distain in defense for themselves, the Riordan Community showed up and the parents/family of the players were the best...Truly showed why they are this years, "Kings of Kezar"

The other point was how perfect of a game Saint Francis played, when the game looked like it was going to go to the wire. SF took advantage of the Crusaders Special team's stumbles. Losing a game to a better foe on that day, should be acknowledged.

But guess what Riordan isn't done and there are some challenges still in the visor windshield. I liked the approach of the FB leadership in re-focusing the guys on the next page and acknowledged the senior day for many of the players.

So it looks like the next step is going back to the magical season started. A match up with BHS in welcomed, because a scrimmage has no score and that is where the Crusaders left Burlingame HS last August. So if you want to encourage the young Crusaders, or if you want to see more of how coaches adjust to different situations? Come out and support your SF city program moving forward. If you don't have anything purple & gold, its okay to pull out your old Laker gear...I think Curry will be okay with you supporting a winning program after be so stead fast....

We Are One...We R Riordan...We Are San Francisco

A small problem: The Crusaders are not a young team at all. They are extremely senior-dominated. They are the opposite of young. There is very little in the Phelan Avenue pipeline. CCS appears to be it for them for a number of years going forward. Good luck.

Lots of "hedge / futures" talk. For me, I'm just enjoying this season and in the "now", much as how I approach each day. Great HS playoff atmosphere with the Crusader Band and turnout from both schools. Lots of Jr. Football kids seen in the stands. Excellent move by Riordan in again extending invitations to the local clubs.Congrats to the Lancers and Bells as WCAL co-champs. True WCAL football dynasties. All the best to Bellarmine, SF, VC, Mitty and Riordan in CCS.

I completely agree Jordan,

This type of talk only comes from SHC enthusiast that have tried to excuse their program's complete failure to compete with the hope that their Sophomore and Freshman classes are the answer, The reality is many JV players are being brought up to Varsity for practice and playing experience for CCS. And to be honest, it was this season's off season development that synchronized this years success. This class can't go through two years of disastrous performance and do so well without looking back and asking why success this year.

As the WCAL is the State's 4th best League. It is a great honor for the Best of Best to represent them. See you next week my friend and I feel Riordan is truly blessed to be able to still discuss FB at this time of year.

"May the players remain healthy and continue to develop as young men and Football players"....
