If anyone can kindly post game updates here, that'd be rad. Great chance for WCAL to have two league teams in State Finals. I did some film research on Pleasant Grove--looks like some bruising football, I just don't know if they have the athletes to keep up 4-quarters with Lancers. I see them keeping it a 1 score game until half until the Lancers break the game more open a bit in the second half to get a 28-17 final.

Adam007 - I do hope you meant "Pleasant Valley" as that is who SF is playing this evening & not Pleasant Grove. Pleasant Valley [whom I was not familiar with BTW] is in Chico while Pleasant Grove is up in the Sacto-SJ area.

Pleasant Valley punter tackled in end zone. SF leads 9-0 with 5:51 left in first half.

Akina to Thomas on 33 yard TD pass ... SF misses extra point ... Lancers up 15-0 with 428 in 2nd

Does PV seem in over there head right now?

Pleasant Valley didn't really that much of a demanding schedule, whereas St. Francis plays in one of the two toughest leagues in NorCal. SF only lost to Bellarmine 28-26. The program has more CCS titles than any other school.

their schedule was pretty bad IMO.. coming into the season it was thought this team could be pretty good but they didn't go out and schedule anyone that would really challenge them... then the playoffs are the same teams they already played in league play so you really didn't know how good they are... this is a good bunch of kids and they will fight hard in the second half tonight

caught that, thanks.

That was my point exactly prior to this game playing. Some of the posters way up north thought we were looking past PV, but the reality was it was impossible to get a good read on them when they played such a lousy schedule. I realize it may not be their fault with their schedule, but it is what it is and they ran into a better team tonight

That's basically the challenge for every Northern Section team due to the lack of depth. There's just not enough good teams within close proximity. That's why you see Enterprise, Sutter, and Paradise schedule the way they do when they expect to field a pretty good team.

I didn't see any part of the game, but, just judging by the score, it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. SF comes from one of the best leagues in CA and is a perennial contender. 29-7 isn't all that bad a showing for PV.

I definitely agree. I too wasn't there, but it sounds like it was quite a defensive battle in the beginning. I would agree the outcome od this game shows PV was no slouch.

I had a friend there last night and he said the first quarter was pretty even and PV had a chance for a TD but dropped a pass in the end zone. The rest of the game SF took over and one particular receiver ate up our defense with his speed on routes and on special teams

Congrats to both teams on their seasons. Good luck Lancers at State!

The schedule was huge I gotta agree, like I stated before this PV team was similar to the EHS team although I think that Enterprise team had a big advantage in speed and athleticism with the same size. But really Enterprise had been playing some real quality opponents from the SJS going into that season and then played some big games during the year that prepared them a little more. I think it was just Pleasant Valleys first experience at that level and it showed. Hopefully they can build on that, schedule up and add another respected program to NS football.

Pleasant Valley is the alma mater of Aaron Rodgers.

From some of the film I saw on the game (local news published some clips), it looked like a physical game. PV had some size on lines and some skill. QB was pretty good. As far as their record and strength of schedule, PVs schedule wasn't bad (of course not at WCAL, SFL, EBAL etc.) but they had some good wins where they dominated pretty good teams. The game was at least competitive from the standpoint that PV put up a fight and it wasn't easy for SF to score. At half the game was still contested and it the PV offense could have put something together it could have been a closer game. Got to had it to the SF defense. SF made some interceptions and their defense gave them great field position. SF passing attack while not many throws didn't miss a completion. SF was the better team but the PV team if it played a few more of these type teams probably closes the gap more and that's where SOS probably did impact it. They look like a good program. Seemed disciplined and played a good brand of football.

Speaking of film, do you know anywhere to find a whole recording of the game? I'm surpised I haven't seen anything on YouTube or anywhere else. Major bummer.

I had a lot of trouble this week convincing some of my friends in Chico this week that St. Francis would defeat Pleasant Valley without much trouble. Of course they are homers and I didn't expect anything less.

I moved to Chico in 1999 from Cupertino. I've have followed north state football pretty close since I got here and have always gone back and caught a DAL game when I could. It took me a while but around 2005 I came to the conclusion that the NS EAL is very comparable to the DAL in the quality of football being played. Year in and year out the strength of the league is quite good with occasionally teams that are superior and would contend in the CCS open.

I'm projecting that Pleasant Valley may be one of those superior type teams in the next year or two. First off, PV coach Chris Cooley seems to have turned things around at Asgard Yard. For those who have longer memories he was the the coach at Hamilton High in their 2008 State Bowl appearance. After that he took an assistant coaching position at Butte College and now pretty much runs their scheme. PV is still young this year and should improve if they can replace their quarterback, which shouldn't be difficult in their plug and play design. Also there has been a migration of football players to PV. The school district has an open enrollment policy and PV seems to be the beneficiary right now with all three levels overflowing with players while Chico High's numbers in the football program are way down.
