Need I say more about the SF Bay Area & NCS dominance in Basketball.

Open- O'Dowd (NCS)
D1- San Ramon (NCS)
D3- Campo (NCS)
D5- University (NCS)

D2- Mitty (CCS)

Sac Area- Capital Christian (SJS)

Since I have lived my entire life in Bay Area (East Bay) I will add that the Bay Area has by far has the highest population...(thus, the most HS students to pick from to make HS teams).

Similar to how SoCal population is much higher than NorCal..

Exactly right. Why does calif, Texas, and Florida have so many athletes, people! USC can go within 100 miles of there campus and fill entire football roster and have top 20 team.
But sac area is growing and does especially well in football and baseball.

The population has shifted big time un favor of the SJS.Younger families have moved out there, more kids are moving there.Having more people is one thing, having more YOUNG people is another thing.A higher population that consists of older, non hs age kids doesn't mean a thing.Better programs un the SJS in my opinion, and they seem to take high school sports more seriously than the Bay Area.

If population was the biggest factor, then New York City would produce more division 1 basketball players.

Affordability attracts young families. NYC, SF, and SJ for that matter have priced themselves out of the athletic markets. The privates can pull some kids in from remote areas which helps.

Elk Grove is a great example though of affordability. In many ways its the new oakland. 20 years ago if you saw an african american there it would be an anomaly. Go to a game now and if you see more whites on a hoop team that is the anomaly. This is almost all related to gentrificatoin. But there growth has almost hurt them because the talent is diluted down over 6 high schools.

But NCS has been a dominant section in virtualy all sports for years. I don't see that changing soon.

Agree LL. NCS dominance will continue. Most of the schools in the NCS are in bay area cities such as Walnut Creek, Concord, San Ramon, Marin and Sonoma Counties. These areas are affordable for families to live, but close enough for those parents that work in SF or the Silicon Valley.

LL your argument is flawed again.

Affordability has nothing to do with the Bay Area basketball dominance. All of the norcal representatives are located in affluent suburbs or are private schools. With the exception of Odowd, the other norcal representatives have no more than three black players on their collective rosters. I do not believe SRV, Campo or Univ. have any black players on their roster. I recall Mitty having a few.

Elk Grove is the new oakland? Based on what? Your anecdotal observation of their basketball teams. Elk Grove is 11 percent black. While many black residents have left the city of Oakland, Oakland is still 30 percent black. How many d-1 basketball players has the city of Elk Grove produced in the last 10 years?

SRV has no black players? Have you seen them play? Please check out the attached video play of the week highlight for your viewing pleasure. Awesome play!

Da real- Seriously. Flawed my ass. Look up the word gentrification. Its happening as we speak. Its just a part of urban migration. Is it a good or bad thing? You guys can debate that. I'm just stating the facts. Go to a Sheldon, Franklin, or Monterey Trail and tell me the ethnic makeup of those teams. Look at Freedom, Heritage, Deer Valley, Antioch etc. Those areas were predominatley white 20 years ago. Do you even go to games?

Observer22- He has no clue. Arm chair poster. SRV best player is there African American PG Keith Smith. Anybody who has seen SRV would know this. Enough said.

LL, you compared Elk Grove (100k total pop), a city with a 11 percent black population to Oakland (400k total pop)that has a 30 percent black population (down from a high of 50 percent 35 years ago). Elk Grove is not the new Oakland no matter how you spin it. That statement was ridiculous.

"Go to a game now and if you see more whites on a hoop team that is the anomaly. "

Regardless of the racial composition of Sheldon, Franklin, Monterey Trail, Antioch, Deer Valley, Heritage, Freedom, etc basketball teams the cities the schools are located in still have a large white population and a small black population. Sacramento is 14 percent black. Stockton is 12 percent black.. Brentwood and Oakley are less than 10 percent. The black population of Antioch is 17 percent the largest of the cities you mentioned. All of these cities are predominately white.

Cultural influences and dna play a MUCH bigger factor as to why those teams (sports in general) are predominately black/non-white.

Based on the population of the city, you would expect Deer Valley or any other high school in Antioch to only have 2 black players on a 12 man roster. We both know that is not the case.

The Bay Area dominates the Sacramento area in basketball because the bay area plays a superior brand of basketball! It has nothing to do with population size, affordability, urban migration or any other excuse you want to make.

And what brand is that?

you know I like to think that I'm visiting this site to spend a moment with some cats that actually love and know a little bit about this game called basketball. Then someone will post some mess that makes me question myself.

I not saying the don't but good basketball in the bay however; some of the worst basketball I've ever seen I saw played by teams from the bay.

Re: And what brand is that?

So the facts mean nothing? Best boys basketball is in East Bay Area!!

SRV was 3rd in their league and they won D-1. BOD MV Moreau and El Ceritto all were top 5 seeds in Nor Cal OPEN!!
