No real surprise here at the top with Folsom leading the way at 2-0 and 16-1 overall. I’m not sure Folsom will be challenged by anybody this year in league. Folsom does have a tough game against a good Jesuit marauder team Saturday at Sheldon. My sources tell me Andrej will not be playing for Jesuit. (Ankle) If folsom does lose it will likely be tonight as 2-0 Whitney (14-5 overall) comes to Folsom. Whitney throws a ton of guys at you and now has 6”8 transfer from oakmont. (Lamb)

Del Oro (0-2) travels to oak ridge (1-1) which is a toss up. I can’t imagine DO going 0-3 and OR is pretty average so I’m going with the pinnick led eagles.

Granite Bay (1-1) plays Rocklin (0-2) in other matchup. Another tossup but I like rocklin in a nail biter.

Not much separates the rest of pack.(after Folsom)

Big run by Folsom.
40-30. Whitney just far to careless with ball tnite. They must have 20 turnovers already. If you can’t take care of the ball against Folsom it’s going to be tough.
2 min left in 3rd.

Fat lady is singing
56-41 Folsom with 3 left.
Whitney played so sloppy and I don’t think they made a 3

Troy Taylor was there sitting with Casey Taylor, presumably to watch OR 6-7 soph TE Kaleb Edwards
Gotta be. He’s an absolute unicorn on the football field.
I said it before. I think he will be one of the biggest recruits ever out of OR in football.

OR vs Folsom tonight (at OR) which on paper is a mismatch but OR upset Folsom last year at home and this is very much a rivalry game with a handful of Folsom kids having EDH roots. If Folsom shoots well from deep it will be a long night for the Trojans. If OR makes it a grind game and slows it down they should be able to hang around.
Get there early because it will sell out.

Del Oro got a huge 90-83 win on the road against a hot Granite Bay team. Leading the way for DO were Jake Williams (24), Caden Pinnick (23), and Brandon Hill (22). Yaqub Mir (38) and Davis Abell (22) lead GB.

Folsom beat Oak Ridge 53-42. Rocklin beat Whitney 75-65.

Standings after round 1
Folsom 5-0
Del Oro 3-2
Granite Bay 2-3
Oak Ridge 2-3
Whitney 2-3
Rocklin 4-1

Folsom 52
OR 43

OR played a tough game. Just don’t have the horses that Folsom has. 2nd place is totally up for grabs.

Last Friday’s results

Folsom 52 DO 47 - neither team played great. DO had a good look at a 3 with 15 sec left to tie but missed.
OR 60 Rocklin 58 - OR hit a deep 3 with 31 sec left & then got a stop to win
GB 75 Whitney 71 - Whitney has lost 5 consecutive games, 4 of them in league

Updated standings and who they play this week

Folsom 6-0 - vs Rocklin, @ Whitney
DO 3-3 - @ Whitney, vs OR
OR 3-3 - vs GB, @ DO
GB 3-3 - vs OR, @ Rocklin
Whitney 2-4 - vs DO, vs Folsom
Rocklin 1-5 - @ Folsom, vs GB

Folsom is not playing their best ball lately. Will anybody get a W against them? It will be interesting to see how the remainder of league shakes out. Teams are so evenly matched. There are no easy wins. Every night is a battle

It’s a league this year of who is the best of the worse. Below Folsom all of these teams are about even. OR has beaten Rocklin 2x in league with combined scores by 3 pts. Agree that anybody can beat anybody but it’s really more like any of these teams below Folsom. That was Folsom’s first game within single digits in SFL and they didn’t play well like you said. Whitney has had a good run of being a solid team but there inability to shoot the 3 this year is killing them. It’s rare to see in this day. Granite Bay has a terrific scoret who is probably averaging 30+ppg in league and has put up 40 against OR. His ability alone has kept them in games.
I don’t see Folsom losing in SFl. I said it before season and I will stick to my guns.

I don’t think Folsom will lose either, but OR & GB have both had leads over Folsom at halftime. If Folsom has an off night I thinks either OR or GB could win. I hope not. DO has already lost twice to Folsom so I’m hoping everyone else does too.

Granite Bay down 8 at half to OR.
The high scoring guard from GB got 2 early fouls and was really taken out of his game. OR is playing well.

OR up 15 late. GB made a nice run to cut it to 8 but they struggled tonight bad.
55-40

Whitney 64 DO 62 F. Del Oro came out flat and played sloppy again. Whitney was up 34-25 @ half. DO came out much better in 2nd half and lead 45-44 after 3rd. Caden Pinnick picked up two technical fouls midway through the 4th quarter. In the end, DO had 20+ turnovers, shot 12/20 from the line, gave up too many offensive RB’s and didn’t deserve to win.

Whitney has been a strange team this year. You look at there size and athleticism and you think they would be better. But they struggle to shoot the ball consistently. Still a very dangerous team in my mind.
OR got a great game from Olson and edwards on defense. GB couldn’t do anything all night. I think #3 the kid going to UCSD was held to like 10 and he had 40 last time.
OR has a real shot of coming in 2nd now and probably could be 6-1 in SFL if they got a few breaks.
Does Pinnick have to sit next game?

I agree Whitney is a strange team. Their length & athleticism aren’t a good matchup for DO, the smallest & least athletic team in the SFL. They have so many long players that DO has a hard time keeping them off the boards.

OR could be 6-1, but both wins over Rocklin were 2 point wins, so a couple breaks the other way they could be 2-5. I think every team could make the argument they could be … with a couple breaks. DO has only lost to Folsom twice & Whitney twice, once in OT and last night by 2. A couple of breaks and DO could be 5-2 right now. These last 3 games could swing 2nd to 6th place any number of ways.

And yes, I believe the rules will force Pinnick to sit on Friday

If pinnick doesn’t play against OR on Friday night they will be heavy underdogs. He goes and DO does as well.
OR is playing well so I would give Trojans the edge in this one even though it’s at DO. No guarantees but pinnick must be averaging like 18-20Ppg

OR blows opportunity to secure 2nd as DO wins 61-59 without pinnick. Impressive win by Golden Eagles
It was a great game. OR jumped out to a 17-13 lead after 1st. DO outscored them 17-8 in the second and lead for most of the game. OR came back late and hit a shot with 15 seconds left to tie it at 59. After a timeout, Brandon Hill drove on Kaleb Edwards and made a scoop layup for the buzzer beater win. He was then mobbed by his teammates and the black hole. Hill had 19 & Jake Williams 18 for DO. Olson had 22 for OR.

Folsom 67 Whitney 50
Rocklin 79 Granite Bay 53

Standings with 1 week left:

Folsom 8-0 (@ GB, vs OR)
Del Oro 4-4 (@ Rocklin, vs GB)
Oak Ridge 4-4 (vs Whitney, @ Folsom)
Whitney 3-5 (@ OR, vs Rocklin)
Granite Bay 3-5 (vs Folsom @ DO)
Rocklin 2-6 (vs DO, @ Whitney)

With exception of Whitney the league is pretty much exactly how I thought it would play out. Folsom rolls pretty much everybody and they didn’t have Willenborg there leading scorer against Whitney and still dismantled them.

Whitney has been my biggest disappointment. They have the most athletic team in the league and returned at least 2 if not 3 starters plus they got 6”7 kid from Oakmont who will play in college. Just goes to show you how important the 3pt shot is in basketball now because it’s an area they struggle .

I agree, except I don’t think anyone thought Del Oro would do as well as they have.

Well, here we go. Last night in SFL ref season.
I said it all year and will keep to my guns. I say Folsom wins tonight and runs the table. 24-2 overall and 9-0 in SFL. This is an open team that should make a nice deep run into the playoffs. They’ve battled some injuries and still have been able to come out on top.

Tonight

OR at Folsom - Folsom too much for rival OR. OR will play them tough if edwards can stay out of foul trouble. I like Folsom by about 10 in this one.

GB at DO. DO has been a pleasant surprise and is 18-9 overall and 5-4 in SFL. I say they win by 5 and secure 2nd place.

Rocklin at Whitney- been a tough season for the thunder who are 13-14 overall and 2-7 in sfl. Whitney will handle business at home tonight and should be a solid SJS d2 team.

Rocklin, OR should be seeded for d1 but in the 13-16 range. Most likely one and done.

Granite Bay will most likely be in a similar position for SJS D2.

DO is a tough team. Congrats to them!
Folsom was too much for Oak ridge and won by about 20.
It was 36-35 early in 3rd before Folsom went on a big run.
