Wow.

"This school year alone, transfer paperwork has been filed for more than 4,000 students at Southern Section schools"

Thats no surprise. Kids want to play on winning teams.Im not against transferring to better a kids chances on being on a championship team or a better situation to be noticed by D1 schools. We have the same thing here in Nor Cal not on the level So Cal is doing it but its still happening.

What ever happened to loyalty? Transfers leave their coaches, teammates and community behind and often crush the team's chances the next year. What are we teaching these kids? Me, me, me...whatever is best for me. The hell with my buddies I've played with since I was 10 years old. The hell with the coaches that helped me to this point in time. This is not professional sports. This is high school. The formative years. Is that what high school sports are supposed to teach you in 2014?....Get yours?

Not sure this is a good thing in the long run.

I can't blame the kids all like that. Its the damn adults.

I coach football. A few years ago when I was out of it I was approached by a friend who had a friend looking for coaches. The man had a really impressive resume including collegiate coaching experience. The opportunity was really too good to be true or to pass up but sure enough the guy wasn't playing around.

The last thing the guy told me on the phone was "I'm going to need your help getting out in the community, getting people engaged in our program, talking to kids and setting up housing and things for them."

I instantly thought "recruiting" and the conversation ended with a disagreement but the door still open.

I passed it up.

3 years later I'm back at it and the man who once asked for my help is now in the same league. The kids he has on his team do not fit the demographics of the neighborhood he coaches in or the school.

I look at it and at the end of the day I know the kids aren't finding him. He hadn't coached in ages due to health reasons, he's finding them.

Additionally, teenage boys have very little say over what they do

I have no issues if there are private school transfers....They are paying for it,

BUT public school is paid for by tax payers and is not a free for all. It is about getting a diploma and an education.
