I’m here to watch the home Grizzlies take on the Ugly Eagles of Clayton Valley Charter.

I walked in early in the 3rd quarter of the frosh game to find CalHi with a slight lead…. That did NOT last long. Now it’s 53-45 CVC as the 4th quarter starts up.

Anywayy…. The feature presentation is the varsities…. Cal Hi looked decent in a losing effort Saturday at the Oscar Freyer classic, and anyone who was at the NorCal Tip-off knows what CVC has…

I think Cal, while a decided underdog, will make the Uglies work for it, at least for awhile.

Halftime of the JV game…. CVC scored the first nine, but CalHi wasn’t deterred, and fought their way right back in it. Score is tied 16-16 in a rematch of a game that happened a few days ago. That one was won 57-54 by CalHi.

BAM! from 3-land for Zimmer…. 25-17. Terrific move by Griz for 2…. 25-19.

Dargan lets fly for 3 against the shot clock, Bingo! 28-19. He makes a steal, looks to do hoop damage…. nope, the rim swatted him. 3:12 left in the half, 28-19 CVC.

Sophomore James Moore gets the ball with 2.4 seconds to go for CVC…. Goes as far as he can forward, gets a 3-bomb off at the buzzer…. BAM!! 35-19. Dude received the ball at three-quarter court, charged between two defnders, let fly from maybe 25. Quite the play

Cal opens the scoring in the 3rd with a Wallace corcer 3…. 35-22.

Charge taken by CVC…. followed by a CVC 3-ball. 38-22.

Griz fouled, FT’s both go. 38-24.

FABULOUS Moore drive down the baseline for 2…. 40-24.

Dargan with a steal, drive, layup…. Makes the game look easy! 42-24, 4:47 left 3rd.

Bamberger for 2, baseline drive off a nice pass. 44-26.

Cal gets a rebound putback…. 44-28.

History almost repeats itself, lone drive and long shot by Moore at the buzzer, but this one just misses. Quarter ends, 50-30.

Alley-oop attempt goes awry, but CVC gets the board and scores anyway. 57-30, 4:29 left.

Now that I'm home... A thought or two...

As I mentioned a few time in this rant... Dargan is a terrific all-around player! He always seems to do the right thing at the right time... Very active and quite the athlete. Seems like he's been somewhat overlooked on the recruiting scene, but I wouldn't be surprised if gets some notice and maybe offers after the Torrey Pines tournament.

CalHi is, despite the beating they took at the hand of the Uglies, is a solid team that will win more than its share of games as the season progresses.

According to Verbalcommits, he does have offers from D1’s Montana and Eastern Washington…. But then, the site still seems to think he plays at DLS.

He isn't a point gaurd, but I wouldn't worry about his size at a low to mid playing the 2 guard spot. His ability to score in multiple ways and be an extra ball handler is valuable and a D1 prospect. Saying that, those labels are getting jumbled right now with the transfer portal in play.

Could be a good player at the D2 level he does alot of good things on the floor not overly athlectic But has a good IQ for the game. He is always in the right spot and he shoots it well enough that you have to account for him on the perimeter He could help many alot of D2 programs!

I think he would be an absolute stud right away at nearly any D2 program, and could very well develop into a star if he aims higher. Strong player in all aspects, especially a good passer who sees the court very well.
