Vacaville 58 vs 22 Berkeley FINAL

Dan the real games are going on right now up in the foothills...tune in!

Last night, Vacaville finished the non-league season at 2-3. It'll be interesting to see how they do against Napa and Wood. At worst they finish with a 5-5 record and with a very high Opponent win record that maybe could be enough for a playoff spot.

League games can throw a curve ball at times. Also, Dan12Kings, hoes Vacaville look in the future? They are averaging 4 Losses the ast several years.

Vaca is dominated by JRs this year with a couple soph and a fresh starter so they should get better in the future. Question everybody asks is if they can get by Wood And/ or Napa this year. Napa is talented and well coached, Wood is extra talented, explosive, and well coached. Time will tell.

berkeley scores 22 points? - vacaville has lost its bite this year - back to the drawing board and hope for the future.

Actually after the score was like 44-8 Vacaville sat down most of their starters so those 14 other points of Berkeley came when Vacaville had their second and third string players.

Berkeley had like 20 to 30 yards of Offense in the second and third quarters combined.

This wouldn't be the first year that Vacaville looked sloppy and anemic in pre-league games. One thing is you can never count those Bulldogs out they seem to find the magic when they need it most. The looming question in the town of Vacaville is will the Bulldogs miss out on the playoffs and watch Wood represent the town of Vacaville from the stands. It might come down to the black and blue bowl week 10 to determine Vacavilles post season fate.

Napa & Wood Games will determine their fate. Will players want to go to Wood since they run the Spread & colleges are using it too?

I don't believe Woods recent success or the fact that they run the spread will overcome Vaca High's deep rooted tradition When it comes to the future stars selecting a high school. For the majority of Vacaville there is only 1 team in town as silly as it sounds. I would think the biggest draw for wood athletes will be their new stadium. The other issue may be Woods ever changing coaching staff they seem to have new varsity coaches every year and rumor has it that The current head coach will step down after this season to support his daughter in her sports. Only time will tell I guess. I see wood winning MEL this season then finishing 4th at best in Mel next season as Vacaville will regain its strangle hold of the MEL and win it next year but will continually be challenged by Napa to close out the decade. The MEL needs to infuse some new blood and add some teams. With exception of this season everybody in the MEL plays for third place behind the powerhouses of Napa and Vaca. Looking at Woods JV team record this varsity season may just be a flash in the pan, blue and fools gold if you will. It's too bad too because having at least 3 viable league winners of a league makes it interesting and raises the competition level of everybody, too bad the Fairfield teams can't get their programs on track.

Not so sure your statement about the ever changing coaching staff is accurate, unless your comparing Wood to Vaca Hi and pops long tenure. There have only been 2 head coaches for Wood over the last 12 seasons. Mike Boles from 2004-2009 and Carlos Meraz from 2010-present.

I could be misled but wasn't there a head coach change at frosh early season as well as 3 or years ago? Was there not a JV head coaching change about 3 years ago and again 2 years ago? And I thought I read a news article about a couple new defensive coaches this year. But again just what I've been told I could be misled.

I'm sorry I took you literally when you said "ever changing coaching staff they seem to have new varsity coaches every year..."; The current tenures for the varsity staff is head coach 6 years, one assistant with 10 and one with 8, one with 4 (used to play @ Wood) a coach in his 2nd year and a brand new DB coach.

Like I said, I could have been misled. It sounds like you have a good handle on what's going on over there. Are the other statements I made false? 2 new frosh head coaches in past 4 years, 2 different JV coaches in past 4 years? Also having 3-4 coaches with more than two years on varsity doesn't exactly dispell the rumor of ever changing coaches now does it. Sorry if I struck a nerve it seems they have done a great job. By all means feel free to set the record straight. I tried to confirm my info but am unable to contact somebody who I believe has the inside scoop. I still believe they run the MEL this season and drop to 4th best next season and flounder about there for a while.

Does Wood have a site for their team & bios for their coaches like Vaca has? Meraz gonna step down? Wow...he really built something there. Hopefully there will be no coaching carousel like Rodriquez.
