I always like looking at the cross section games early in the season. Here a a few this week:

Cardinal Newman (NCS) vs Vacaville (SJS): Newman and new head coach Richard Sanchez come to Vacaville facing an 0-2 start after dropping their opener vs San Leandro 20-17. Vacaville is 2-0 after shellacking Davis and beating a very good Oak Ridge team last week.

Clayton Valley Charter (NCS) vs Del Oro (SJS): Another North Coast vs Sac Joaquin matchup has CVC coming to Loomis to face Del Oro. CVC has a solid win over Turlock while DO is 2-0 after beating a decent Lincoln team and shutting out Del Campo 36-0.

Valley Christian (CCS) vs Capital Christian (SJS): Capital travels to San Jose to face a WCAL team for the first time in their school history. Capital is 1-0 after defeating Atwater in week 0. VC is 1-0 after defeating a pretty good Wilcox team. Interesting individual matchup will be VC's monster of a WR Jurrion Dickey vs Capital DB Cameron Sampson, who was named top DB in the Sacramento area by the Sac Bee.

Pleasant Valley (NS) vs Yuba City (SJS): PV welcomes Yuba City to Chico for their season opener. PV currently ranked 28th in the MaxPreps NorCal rankings. Yuba City comes in 0-1 after blowing a 20-0 first quarter lead to Vanden losing 37-33 (And costing me the win in Week 0 Pick'em 🤬). Yuba City beat PV last spring 14-7, but graduated some talent and the inexperience showed in the Vanden loss.

Menlo-Atherton (CCS) vs Tualatin (Oregon): MA coming off a tough loss the Bellarmine welcomes Tualatin of Oregon, currently ranked 4th in the state in the 4A division. Dont know much about Tualatin, but the respective head coaches of each school played together at Linfield college in Oregon.

Not a cross section game, but a game of note in the Sac Joaquin section is Bella Vista vs Highlands. Bella Vista is currently on a 48 game losing streak and after their game against Cordova was cancelled last week, this may be BV's best chance at ending the losing streak this year. BV is such a weird school in that they are very competitive in all other sports (wrestling, basketball, baseball etc), they have athletes in the school, but for whatever reason cant get it together in football. Good luck Bronco's!
