Half Moon Bay continued its dominant preseason with a 52-0 win over visiting Capuchino Friday night.

The 11th-ranked Cougars (3-0) have now outscored their opponents 163-14 with two more non-league games remaining in which they will be heavy favorites, starting Friday night at El Camino. Senior quarterback Gavin Tomberlin was efficient yet again, completing 6 of 7 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns.

Senior Chase Hofmann was dominant on the ground once again, rushing for 105 yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries. Senior Hayden Von Almen caught a 73-yard touchdown pass and senior Dylan Williams hauled in two passes for 61 yards and a score.

No doubt this is one of HMB's most talented teams as I've previously stated in posts. To date HMB's wins have been over Cap, Paly & Woodside who are a combined 2-7 between them. Upcoming are El Camino & Mills, both weaker teams than any of the 3 teams HMB has played to date - EC & Mils are a combined 1-5 between them. It is fairly safe to say the HMB starters will be resting in the 2nd 1/2 of "bloodletting" in both of these games.

HMB's first real test will be vs BGame in 3 -weeks followed by a week of rest vs SHP and then its 2 toughest games vs Menlo-Atherton who is a solid team and then a surprising Aragon team before finishing up vs Terra Nova.

This particular group of HMB skill guys might be the best ever at the school, at least since the Cougars became part of the old NPL, later folded into the expanded PAL, more than 50 years ago. They have a chance to be a factor in CCS Open Division III action because this core can score, really score. Could they compete with a big physical team like Valley Christian in Open III? We may find out.
