Irish NOT in. W.. T.. F?

Unbelievable. Irish FINISH at 14-14. SH Prep is in the Open. St. Francis and Mitty are in D-II where the Irish should be. SHC had 1-run losses to Serra, Bellarmine and Valley Christian and had the sixth highest strength of schedule in the CCS. Irish beat Mitty and Half Moon Bay who get in D-II, beat 20-6 Palo Alto who gets in the Open, overwhelmed Homestead and Woodside, who each get a berth in D-1, plus Terra Nova, who get a D-III berth. There is also no reason to only have 8 teams in the Open and have the other divisions with so many teams.

For a totally perplexing exercise in frustration and disbelief, please head to the website noted above. The current CCS method of choosing and seeding teams for baseball playoffs makes about as much sense as the latest communique from the Kardashian family.

Sacred Heart Cathedral made a bad decision to play Lick-Wilmerding at the end of the season.

Sacred Heart Cathedral had 43.5 points before they played Lick-Wilmerding and 43 points after they played Lick-Wilmerding. SHC lost 3 points from playing Terra Nova to play Lick-Wilmerding and gain 2.5 points.

Only 9 of SHC's wins were in the last 22 games.

Prep2Prep had incorrect point totals for many teams. Riordan and SHC had incorrect point totals on Prep2Prep.

Archbishop Riordan had 39 points.

According to CCS, the top two teams in the entire tournament (Open Division) are Willow Glen and San Benito. Really? Valley Christian is No.3. The insanity knows no bounds.

Drinking should not be allowed before setting the brackets. And the dart board should also be taken off the wall. On the plus side VC and Serra are on opposite sides of the bracket.....

Good point re Serra and VC. If they are as strong as they appear to be, the seedings probably won't damage them much. Probably. A key word for sure.

Isn’t this team the best team they had since early 2k?
You can argue (going into season) this was their best team since their last WCAL championship team in 1978. Honestly at times they did not play well and could not finish multiple league games. But you cant tell me they are not a Top 20 team in CCS.

Being that said, good luck to those teams that qualified.

BTW, Happy Mother's Day!

On MaxPreps, SHC is ranked 12th in the CCS. They beat 7th ranked Palo Alto and 5th ranked Mitty. They scored 16 and 15 runs, respectively against Homestead and Woodside who get berths. They also beat Carlmont and Half Moon Bay who got berths.

CCS should put the Open back to 16 teams and leave things as they were.

The positive is that they won the Bruce-Mahoney game which is a championship in itself.

They were definitely shafted. How can the CCS justify their being denied? It's BS

Win more league games and they aren't in this position....only getting 1 split with teams that finished in front of them in the standings hurt them. Sweeping the teams below them in the standings means nothing.

Question: Since CCS uses a point system to determine seedings, doesn't playing (and losing to) WCAL teams provide at least some points?

Even the CCS selection committee had to be embarrassed about this.

The selection committee should not be embarrassed at all. They just follow the rules and seed the tournament. The CCS office and Board of Managers should be embarrassed, but they don't really care. They just want to push some papers around and make some bylaws that are consistent across the board. That is the reason for 8 teams in the open...so they could say that it is universal across the board. Lame IMO. Seed the tournament subjectively if the goal is to get the best teams in the right spots. It takes effort. It takes realizing that it has been screwed up for a long time and needs to be fixed. Put the committee in a room. The committee is made up of one coach from each league. Stick a couple CCS guys in there with them. Load up maxpreps, prep to prep, cal hi, and whatever else you want to bring in. Get some information and hash it out. But that is too much effort for the baseball committee because they are playing the victim too. The Board of Managers are a bunch of principals with bigger things to worry about. The CCS administration puts palms up and says they work at the pleasure of the board of managers and put their heads back in the sand. Another year. More illogical seedings. More bitching, then in two weeks it goes away till next May.

Someone needs to work within the framework of the bylaws of the CCS, make proposals, lobby people, get their agenda through and see the big picture and decide to try and change it.

My guess is nothing will happen

Nobody cares.

But the WCAL is still and always has been the white elephant in the room. No other singular league in the state dominates across the board like the WCAL. That has only become more true each year. The Open was supposed to address that. But an 8 team Open in baseball is stupid when the 16 team tournament was awesome. Nobody had a problem with it. I blame the lazy CCS leadership and the even lazier Board of Managers. They just want to get stuff done and move on. Listen to the coaches, have an opinion and push for change. Don't just rehash the same bylaws every year. Get some coaches involved. Even retired coaches. Some baseball people.

...and CCS softball is just as bad, maybe worse. Try this on for size: Valley Christian won both the WCAL round-round and tourney titles. The Warriors are outright WCAL champions. And they are seeded in the Open below WCAL peers St. Francis and S.I. Amazing. Unreal. Ridiculous. The system has very little, if any, credibility.

Ya that was really messed up. Made no sense at all.

CCS Division II final: Burlingame 14, Aptos 0 (5 innings). It was 12-0 after one inning. Ugly. Have no earthly idea how Aptos came in with an 18-8 record.

Mitty beat CCS 40th-ranked Westmont (14-15) 1-0 in 8 innings.

Serra beat Willow Glen 4-1

Los Gatos defeats Palo Alto 3-1. They will play Serra

Bellarmine, Mitty and St. Francis also won and will advance in their divisions.
