Elk Grove’s Simi Pale chose Stanford over last ditch NIL deal offered by P5 school in attempt to steal the recruit.

While at Pale’s signing day his father had mentioned that they had been offered an NIL deal from a P5 school in an attempt to sway Pale to their institution. Mesmerized by the offer his Father, Coach Pale, said he was “acting like a groupie” when he seen the offer. But he expressed how proud he was of his son when he chose Stanford and to put off the money now, in hopes to land money later.. I.E. getting drafted or a shot in the NFL. It was a breath of fresh air to see a kid level headed not chasing the NIL deals but rather choosing the institution that is best suited for him and his future interest and endeavors.

This does beg a question (or two): Will Stanford authorities put aside apparent barriers to NIL deals provided by its vast network of ultra-wealthy alums? For that matter, will the Cardinal relax its transfer rules?

It does seem like Stanford could be a big player in the NIL game if it so chose. Wouldn't have to diminish their academic standards either.

Here's a Stanford irony: Its university endowment is approaching $37 billion. Interest, dividends and capital gains churned out $1.7 billion to support university programs, salaries, tuition grants and other functions last year. The Cardinal does not lack financial resources to provide great gobs of assistance to students, athletes, band members, The Tree, The Dollies and anyone else it so chooses. In theory, money should be no object.
