WoodCreek's solution to a poor Football program apparently to "athletic director" Lori Ann Donnel is to ask for all teams to be moved to a lower league. Despite the fact that almost all the other sports programs have more then held there own. They also site enrollment projects showing declines when new high school is built, hard to believe with all the new homes being built. I guess they feel if you can't beat them play lesser competition........

131Pressman,

You are way off base and don’t seem to have a firm understanding of the realignment process. Let me help to explain. Schools look at a number of factors and one of those is competitive equity. Schools are given a score based on the number of wins it has in all sports during league play. Wins, league championship and post season play dictates a number. Nevada Union score out of 4 was a 1.2. Woodcreek was 1.55. The next closest team above Woodcreek was Folsom 2.3. This formula is set up by the CIF with an understanding if your score is below 2; you are in the wrong league.

The fact if you take out basketball and baseball, for the most part Woodcreek is struggling in the SFL. This is not purely a football move; it is a move to give relief to all sports to a school that is declining with enrollment.

Not a bad move. The are other good programs/leagues in the SJS. Several teams in the SFL have won a ton of section, regional, and state championships. It's a pretty loaded league, by design.

Sewerrat22,

If you look at the power ratings for Woodcreek, they rate far and above their new league teams ratings as far as all the minor sports compare, not to mention 1st in basketball and baseball. No way should Woodcreek be dropping down. It is said in the article that this is a "Football move"

Not all equity scores are the same even though a 3rd place finish in the SFL and a 3rd place finish in the CVC, PVL or any other league are calculated the same.

Terry- The Maxpreps "Power Rankings" are something that the Section did try to use at the first realignment meeting but it was dismissed as a non-issue by the AD Donnell and Principal Rood as being non encompassing of all sports. The Maxpreps Rankings had Sac high ranked higher (28.8) than Woodcreek (28.6) in football, should Sac High now come into the league based on this ranking?? Do you think that Sac High and Woodcreek are that close???

Also it had Rocklin ranked higher (33.0) than Woodcreek but Woodcreek beat them this year. Finally it had Antelope ranked higher than Inderkum, yet Inderkum made the section finals. The Maxpreps rankings, really has no say/weight when it comes to the issue of realignment, it is based on your opponents strength of schedule.

The CIF formula uses wins/losses in league & CIF Postseason performances across ALL SPORTS, Woodcreek was closer to Nevada Union in terms of OVERALL athletic success then it was to the next higher team (which was Folsom at 2.2). This is why Woodcreek was still in the SFL at the last realignment, the school had section titles in numerous sports, if this was purely for football then Woodcreek would have made a move at the last meeting in 2013.

Yes Woodcreek Baseball and Basketball (Mens) teams are successful but they have been for a LONG time, further our other sports such as Volleyball (M 4-8/W 1-11) Wrestling (almost non existent since the early 2000's) Soccer Track (Some successes) are average high school teams with periods of high and low. I agree that not all scores are the same evenly across all leagues (but I wonder why teams who might or are being pushed to the SFL because of success all of the sudden fight this), but this is why there is a realignment meeting held every 4 years to reassess and adjust leagues and teams so they can have a chance to be successful (not dominate but have a legitimate chance to win/compete for a league title every year)

Terry is my father, my name is Miles

Of course Woodcreek would have lower playoff numbers because they did not make the playoffs in as many sports. Taking them out of SFL, putting them in to a smaller enrollment league/division will make them #1 or #2 in almost every sport based off power rankings (no other way to predicit). I understand Woodcreek leaving for football but they are going to dominate in almost all other sports. Them leaving also causes a 6 team SFL (as of right now).

2017 BASKETBALL SECTION RATINGS

2016 BASEBALL SECTION RATINGS

2017 SOCCER SECTION RATINGS

Over the last 10 years if you asked people at Woodcreek who the athletic director was the majority had no idea it was Lori lol! They have had some solid success in the minor sports as well (cross country, soccer etc besides baseball, basketball) sugar coat it if it makes you feel better in your safe space, the majority feel if the football program wasn't such a joke despite getting the majority of funding, boosters etc, this move would not happen. Don't we tell our kids not to quit when they face adversity? Maybe Lori doesn't believe in that....

This a direct quote from Woodcreek AD, this is a move for football.

“We believe that the SFL is a power league strongly influenced by football success,” the letter explained. “For this reason, and the reasons stated above, we do not believe the SFL is the correct league for Woodcreek.”

I think competitive equity is the buzz phrase from the CIF to encompass why teams move leagues and playoff divisions.

You are right Streak.

The meeting is going on right now. No updates.
As of last meeting we where in the new CVC, but we could be moved back in to the TCC or into the new Metro.

must be nice to have a choice of league..Grant would have loved to be in the sfl...nope they get shipped to the metro

For football, the SFL could be a nice fit most years for competitive reasons and the fact that their wouldn't be a lot of travel beyond a couple of games. However, that may not be the case for all the other sports.
