An impressive TEN players have currently committed to Division I schools that will be participating in the Nor Cal Tip Off Classic on November 26. This group is lead by the trio from Notre Dame: 2023 wing Dusty Stromer (Gonzaga), 2023 guard Caleb Foster (Duke) and 2024 guard Mercy Miller (Houston). Miller is the son of noted rapper Master P.

Other Division I commits are all in the 2023 class: guard BJ Davis of Modesto Christian (San Diego State), guard/wing Courtney Anderson Jr of Dublin (Colorado), guard Ryan Beasley of Dougherty Valley (USF), forward Derek Sangster of Archbishop Mitty (Princeton), guard Money Williams of Oakland (Montana), center Andrew McKeever of Granada (St. Mary’s) and guard Varick Lewis of Monterey Trail (Long Beach State).

-Two coaches have coached in the Tip Off Classic at two different schools. Who are they? Frank Knight (Fremont of Oakland and Moreau Catholic) and Nick Jones (Castro Valley and Monte Vista). Chris Teevan was head coach at Weston Ranch in 2019 and assistant coach at Modesto Christian in 2021.

-Three players have played in FOUR Tip Off Classics. Who are they? Joey Frenchwood of Newark Memorial (2010-2011-2012-2013), Naseem Gaskin of Bishop O’Dowd (2014-2015-2016-2017) and Elijah Hardy of Bishop O’Dowd (2014-2015-2016-2017).

- The record for most points in a game is 52 by Kendall Smith of Deer Valley in 2012 in a 97-96 double OT win over Sacramento High.

- One Division I assistant coach is a former head coach in the Tip Off Classic. Who is he? Senque Carey of Cal State Long Beach who coached Castro Valley in 2012.

- Kyree Brown and Nigel Burris are the only players to play in the Tip Off Classic at two different schools. Brown played in the event with St. Mary’s of Berkeley in 2015 and Berkeley High in 2017. Burris played at Stuart Hall in 2018 and at Archbishop Mitty in 2021

-Players with NBA experience who have participated in the Tip Off Classic: Juan Anderson of Castro Valley (2009/2010), Jabari Brown of Oakland High (2010), Marquese Chriss of Pleasant Grove (2012), Ivan Rabb of Bishop O’Dowd (2013/2014), Stephan Zimmerman of Bishop Gorman (2015), Evan Mobley and Isaiah Mobley of Rancho Christian (2017), Jalen Green of San Joaquin Memorial (2017), Gabe Vincent of St. Mary’s Stockton (2013).

-Three players have been selected Player of the Game twice: Who are they? Jo Jo McGlaston of Dublin in 2010 and 2012, Jordan Ford of Folsom in 2014 and 2015 and Ivan Rabb of Bishop O’Dowd in 2013 and 2014.
