First off I would like to send well wishes to all the fellow members. These are trying times in our lives, and I hope all of you are healthy and safe.

Maybe we can generate some good convo about the upcoming season. I have many questions that maybe someone can answer. The first one is obviously will there be a 2020 football season? Many of the EBAL coaches are saying that they are anticipating having little if any Summer Program. I have seen some posts about an influx of transfers to schools. Who are the new faces in new places? I know Pitt has a QB from Rocklin. Surprise teams? Teams going to take a step back?

Top Questions:

How is post-Jay Butterfield life at Liberty? Can they sustain success after the last two strong classes have moved on?

What is next for Folsom? Year 2 for Doherty and coming off first non-section final season since 2008 (I think)

Who is the favorite in the WCAL? Lot of talent graduated from the league

What does Mack look like this year? Took a big step up in the NorCal/state bowl divisions last year. Will they remain a Top 10 type team in NorCal?

Capital Christian was really young last year. Year 4 for Casey Taylor. Do they make the big move into solidly being a Top 15 team?

Programs in transition/have a fork in the road year: Del Oro (new coach), Jesuit (will they take the next step?), Freedom (year 3 of Cotter), Bishop O'Dowd (new coach).

These are just a few I have.

I'd add Bellarmine to that list. Janda and the entire staff retired, the program had some internal disagreements with the kneeling issue, and they've had a rough go of it recently.

Yes. Good addition. Hard to rebuild it again

The Bell program had become deficient on so many levels. Offseason conditioning program left players weak , mentally spent and injured . No 7v7 in summer maybe not a big deal for a run heavy O but hurts the defense with so many spread teams. Also many students not wanting to play for a certain coach .

When the new coach is hired a new
energy, training regimen, and coaching style will do wonders for the
Bells. Maybe not the D1 studs of the past but there is talent returning that was either discouraged, not used or misused by the past staff.
I would not be surprised to see the Bells back in the top 1/2 of the WCAL next season

strong rumor and at least one case I know for fact, up to 8, mostly skill players, transferred out of CC.

Unless Taylor has doubled recruiting efforts to fill in so many departures they may not be at the same level they were this past season.

.

If all these rumors are true, and the admin, alumni, parents and boosters are really this much of a problem, I can’t see how CT remains there long term. He’ll never be able to develop that program into the juggernaut it could be.

Top 2020 QB's in the...

CCS: McLeod(M-A), Lampkin(Serra)
NCS: Brickhandler (Pittsburg), Huchingson(Acalanes)
SJS: Lamson(Oak Ridge), Patu (Folsom)

Who else? Who's a sleeper?

Ingrassia for Marin Catholic who started last year as a sophomore should be pretty good next year

I would put him in the sleeper category. I only saw him twice last year(Acalanes, Newman). Unfortunately he struggled in both games but one was a torrential downpour. Would be good to see him emerge

BVAL wise I think this will be another potential big season for Pittsburg, especially after another rigorous non league schedule. Seeing them do what they did last year with very mediocre lines on both side of the ball against some very good lines (Liberty twice), the sky is the limit with this staff/program.

I agree with Streak about Liberty having questions to answer. But I don’t think there will much drop off at quarterback, if any at all. Rashada is pretty gosh darn good and will be a sophomore, but very mature for his grade (turns 17 in the Fall). The question will be how they replace losing another couple of young wide receivers. One moved to SoCal and another transferred to Pittsburg. That being said, they have welcomed a couple of quality of transfers as well. With the blending a bunch of new, young talent, along with this crisis, and on top of the racial strife circling the school/student body, it will be interesting see how Partridge and company adapts. Matt Hoef is the new defensive play caller as well.

I’m intrigued by Heritage. Fogelstrom has been waiting for a long time for this job. Will it be too big of a bite? With the former Freedom staff of Hartwig and company as his staff, odds are pretty good that he does well.

I think biggest storyline/ question is.....will there be 2020 season? It is not out of the realm of possibility it doesn’t happen.

I’m not even remotely buying into that possibility — right now anyway. We’re not even to April yet and folks are already stir crazy.

I can’t see people still willing to buy into seclusion and social distancing 5 months from now. Hell, they’re having a helluva time keep masses of people off the beach even right now.

Wow... do those kids land at Folsom or Elk Grove schools?

Folsom got a couple, Cosumnes Oaks got a few, Elk Grove and Inderkum got some as well. Folsom got the best player of the bunch in Rico Flores. Started for Capital as a 14 year old freshman.

Not sure what exactly led to the exodus, but Capital is going to be fine. With Aaron Garcia’s kid taking over at QB next year behind a monster offensive line, he should do well, which makes all the receivers that left even more of a head scratcher.

Indy got 1 kid who has lived in our boundries for over 10 years. We had 4 or 5 jr Tigers that played at CC in recent yrs. I know, 1 of those is now at EG.

Wow, no kidding? Is that a snowball effect, once one goes so go the rest?

I hope not but if your would have told me NCAA tourney would be cancelled and olympics. Postponed last month I would have called you crazy.

I disagree, I still think it is a possibility. Just last week the IOC was saying the games would still be going on.

The olympic games and HS football are completely different things. Not even remotely comparable.

The olympics require years of planning and work for the host city and from the athletes that train to compete in them. They also involve hundreds of thousands to millions of spectators that travel vast distances and are on tight schedules with regard to vacation and reservations. A myriad of businesses are also impacted.

HS football can easily be resumed much closer to the usual timeframe w/o anywhere close to the same level of impact.

Again, the season is FIVE months away. Not 5 weeks. There’s really no valid reason for concern right now. Even if this lasted til July or August, they’d still be able to figure out how to have a season.

Hell, during WWII circa 1941-1945 they figured out how keep the game going despite not having access to buses and other amenities. Even started the 1942 season in OCT.

Anyone thinking it’s likely that we will all be isolating like this 5 or 6 months from now is overreacting at this point in time.

Is it possible? Sure, anything is possible. But likely? No.

I hope not and I’m a glass half full person. The media isn’t helping out any. I really enjoy HS baseball as well and it’s a bummer.
We all would go crazy without a season of HS football. Be safe and try to enjoy the close qtrs with family! Here is to better days ahead fellas.

How will the social distancing impact summer workouts?

And are we positive that school will start in August?

Influenza runs through schools in the later fall and winter. Is there any chance that the CIF moves the season up to start in July?

Probably go back to a time before year-round sports....kids will show up in August, go through double-days and two weeks later head into their 8-10 game season. :)
