I'm planning on posting some quick notes on the top expected teams heading into the season. Football Season is fast approaching!

Marin Catholic: Wildcats have the benefit of returning a starting quarterback in Michael Ingrassia, but should be working in many news players on that side of the ball. They have the makings of a solid defense led by safety Charlie Allen. Their best non-league game comes on September 17 at McClymonds

Looking forward to hearing your take on EBAL Mountain Division

San Ramon Valley: The Wolves should have a strong team with quarterback Jack Quigley, running back Za'Darion Nardi and lineman Jackson Brown leading the offense. They also return the majority of their defense with starters back at all three levels. San Ramon Valley opens the season against Vintage and Bishop O'Dowd. The other two non-league games are Antioch and Las Lomas.

Campolindo: The Cougars have 17 losses in the past eight seasons, but can they continue it this season? They graduate their quarterback, top running back, top receiver and top lineman. They also lose their top tackler and top defensive back. Few programs have had the staying power of Campolindo, but they have questions entering the season. In the non-league, Campolindo will play Moreau Catholic, Aptos, Sutter, San Leandro and Hayward.

Benicia: Benicia will look to challenge Campolindo in the DAL - Foothill Division with a trio of top players in WR/DB Croix Stewart (UCLA), TE/DE Miles Bailey (Fresno State) and DB Simeon Harris (Colorado). Quarterback Tyson Wallace is also returning for the Panthers, which will play Pinole Valley, Carrillo, Moreau Catholic, Bethel and Windsor.

I think that Saint Francis has a legitimate chance of beating DLS year. The stars are in alignment,

I myself predict that DLS should win but in won’t be easy

....Er, Uhhh...
Reminds me of the crucial scouting advice Custer recieved from 2 of his 4 Crow Scouts, Curly Goes Ahead and Hairy Moccasin (real names, google it), as they approached the ridge at Little Big Horn, "We think there might be a Lakota and Cheyenne encampment nearby but our horses are fast".

Would someone please tell me me how good DLS is going to be this year. We usually talk about it all year. Just silence . it’s kind of like the Cheyenne can’t figure out where they want to camp,

I do believe that the Cheyenne ran the veer.

I wanna believe you, but I swear I’ve heard this same statement every year for about the past 35 years, “this is the year” “vulnerable, a little down etc.”

For sure one day it will happen (2004 it pretty much did) and I actually think it will be good for the program, but NorCal wise no one has taken that step to make it happen in a long time.

For De La Salle, this team isn't going to be one of the best teams in the past decade, but will still be very good. Baseline for this era of Spartans is the 2016 year when they returned 2 or 3 starters. This year's team brings back more talent than that, but will need to round out the lines and have some non-seniors step up.

Players to Watch: WR/DB Zeke Berry, LB Damonie Perkins, TE/DE Brodie Tagaloa

Would like to add the Spartan's version of their Giant Burgers to their beefy lines, the Tofeano Brothers. Have heard the elder bro is rolling the scales near the 240-250.

They are going to be very good again. It’s DLS. But SRV, St Francis, Folsom all are going to be tough outs.

2022 LB Tanner Salisbury and 2023 TE/DE Riley Gann are back at San Ramon Valley. Last year, they were at Mater Dei and IMG Academy respectively.

Menlo-Atherton: The Bears will need to find some new linemen, but they bring back a lot of offensive firepower with players like quarterback Matt MacLeod and two-way starters Jalen Moss and Jeremiah Earby. Non-league games to watch are against Pleasant Valley at the Honor Bowl and home games against Placer and McClymonds.

Los Gatos: The Wildcats went 5-0 last season, including a thrilling win over Wilcox. They return 11 starters, according to the CalPreps preview, and should be good on defense with Boise State linebacker commit Jake Ripp and defensive lineman Bennett Gardo. One of the top players moving on is running back Adam Garwood. In the non-league, Los Gatos will play Oak Grove, Liberty, Live Oak-Morgan Hill and Half Moon Bay.

Some changes on the sidelines this season. Coaches Terry Eidson and Joey Allioti have retired from their coaching positions but will still be involved with the school. No word who will step into their shoes but confident Coach Alambaugh and AD Lopoz are rebuilding their staff.

Is Coach Kenion running the defense now? I thought he might have taken on more toward the end of 2019 season

Vintage: Vintage has gone 16-2 over the past two seasons and returns some key players for the fall season. Running back Dylan Smith ran for 827 yards and 15 touchdowns in six games during the spring. Mosaati Schaumkel is also back after rushing for more than 400 yards. On the line, Louis Canepa will be one of the top OL in the NCS. In the non-league, they play San Ramon Valley, El Cerrito, Cardinal Newman and Oakland.

Have the Lancers figured out the forward pass for this season?

Gosh I hope so, they have the receivers and QB back. Along with returning a 3 year starter at RB in addition to have a good 0/l. Calcagno has to realise that this team needs balance on offence and they have the players to do it this year.

When the Lancers won their state championship a few years back, it was their passing game that did it.

St Francis only defeated Hollister 24-19 last season and were destroyed by Serra and lost to VC in OT. DLS plays St Francis in third week. If first game, maybe a shot but DLS will probably win by 2-5 TDs. No indication DLS will be down at all and lots of speed.

Yeah Serra put SF into a running clock. But how did Serra escape by a few points from VC and then was taken into OT by SF. I think all the teams learned something but having said that the pandemic affected the season. Along with too few games which never allowed teams to get into a rhythm.

Now that I have heard more about DLS. I stand corrected, at least until the gamed is played

It was nice to see today that the Mercury News listed 3 Saint Francis O/l players in their top 10. SF also has two 6’6” 240 pounds TE’s. It will give the O/l more diversity. They will also be playing LB

3 year starting RB Arquette is 6’1” 220 and will also be playing LB

How do you like the bells this year

Sutter: Usually one of the top teams in the Northern Section, Sutter is poised for another big year with 14 projected starters back, according to CalPreps. They have a good passing combo between Trevor Eck and Caden Simmons to compliment their running attack. Sutter plays Truckee, Chico and Foothill-Palo Cedro. It also plays Campolindo at the Honor Bowl.

Monterey Trail: The Mustangs graduated a strong senior class, but returns good talent. QB Frank Arcuri, LB Tanaki Tonga, WR/DB Brevin Amiga, DB Ronnie Brutus and OL Uvante Usher are some players to watch. They have put together a really tough non-league with games against Folsom, Cosumnes Oaks, De La Salle, Lincoln-Stockton and Clayton Valley Charter.

Pittsburg: The Pirates will start the year as a Top 5 team with a very good offense led by QB Jaden Rashada, WR Rashid Williams and WR Israel Polk. On the lines, watch for Aidan Bandes. Pittsburg might have the toughest non-league in NorCal with Serra, Folsom, Valley Christian, Wilcox and McClymonds. The Pirates start league play with probably the top two challenges in Heritage and Liberty.

Tommy Turner who previously played QB for Alhambra has been added to the Benicia roster.

I am reading you right. Or do you really believe that Serra has a tough preseason schedule. I will give you the pirates but rounding that off with PA and HMB proves that Serra has a great Bay Area team.
