2nd round CCS

DI

Salinas #12 in section at Wilcox #2 in section - Wilcox wraps up a regional bid with a win. Salinas has a potent offense, but I don't their defense can stop Wilcox consistently. Salinas' best chance would be to win in a shootout, but I think Wilcox's D is good enough to get some stops and would expect Wilcox to win by 2-3 scores.

Palo Alto #7 vs M-A #5 - Key for Palo Alto will be if they can establish some run game and block adequately to give Christ time. I think this is a tough match-up for Palo Alto on the lines. MA makes enough mistakes that Palo Alto will have a shot, but I see MA taking this one.

DII

Serra #4 at St. Francis #1 - St. Francis clinches a regional spot with a win. Serra has struggled against higher ranked teams all year. St. Francis' defense forces Serra to play faster and that tends to led to mistakes and turnovers. St. Francis' offense has been steadily improving since midseason after they lost their QB - St. Francis should win easily.

Mitty #11 at Valley Christian #4 - Another one where VC's defense should shut Mitty down and make this a comfortable win for VC.

DIII - two toss up games in this division

Aptos #8 at Palma #6 - last time this game came down tot he final play where Aptos fumbled inside the 5 yard line and Palma held on to a 40-35 win. I don't see this game being much different as these teams are pretty evenly matched - will be a surprise if this game is decided by more than one score.

SHC #13 at SHP #9 - another game that should be pretty close. SHP just doesn't make a lot of mistakes and rarely beats themselves. SHC played a tougher schedule and acquitted themselves reasonably well. Another one where it would be a surprise if either team wins by more than one score.

CCS power points of remaining teams (I don't think any other tie breakers will apply for regionals this year with these teams)

1. Wilcox 32.33
2. St. Francis 31
3. Palma 30.25
4. Menlo-Atherton 29
5. Palo Alto 29
6. Sacred Heart Prep 28.33
7. Valley Christian 27.33
8. Salinas 25.75
9. Aptos 25.5
10. Serra 22
11. Mitty 21.5
12. SHC 21

Since you’re pointing out NorCal regional bids, the winner of the Palo Alto-Menlo Atherton game will also be advancing regardless of what happens in the final.

It is highly likely that this would be the case but in a scenario where both St Francis and Palma lost in the finals they would get a bid ahead of either Palo Alto or Menlo-Atherton if they lost in the finals.

Monterey vs TKA in DV should be a really good game. Monterey is 9-1, their schedule was not the toughest, but they have some athletes and some depth. They moved up a soph QB, which allowed them to use their old QB at receiver and Running back. Makes them a much more dynamic team.

Is this game being played at Monterey High? And if so, Saturday afternoon? I don't think they have lights.

D1- If MA is running all 8 cylinders, they will roll through D1 like Snow Storm in the Frozen Tundra of Northern Siberia. They are going to beat PA like a snare drum in the Macy’s New Year Parade. Looking ahead they will dominate Wilcox or Salinas with their SEC Defense. Salinas might upset Wilcox this weekend as well. I’m pulling for a MA/Wilcox final to watch the Samoan War of 2018!

D2- SF/Serra will be a much closer affair the second time around. VC is going to have a running clock by the 4th quarter. This is the most competitive division. I have to give SF the edge to win it all.

D3- Aptos/Palma is the Final in this division, but I see Palma pulling through by a score. The winner will take it all.

I've never been to Siberia, so having trouble relating!

D1- Wilcox over Salinas 42-36. M/A over Palo Alto 39-14. Wilcox over M/A 44- 34.
D2- SF over Serra, VC in the finals with them, SF wins D2.
D3- Cut to the chase: Aptos over Palma in the finals(tough to beat a team with matching talent twice in one season)

NorCalSportsFan CCS Payoff Picks

OPEN Division 1

Semi Finals: Menlo-Atherton defeats Paly, Salinas beats Wilcox in upset if Salinas defense can step up)
Championship: Menlo-Atherton (too tough of defense for Salinas)

OPEN Division 2
Semi Finals: Valley Christian, St. Francis wins in better game
Championship: St. Francis (in another close one against VC)

OPEN Division 3
Semi Finals: Sacred Heart Prep wins in a close one, Palma wins twice in another close one (tough round to call against Aptos but I think Palma will have more success running as Aptos will defend differently since burned and Palma will have a little better experience slowing Aptos offense)
Championship: Palma (I know I am a homer, but think they will win if they can get through Aptos and would take them over SHP as well)

Division 4

Semi Finals: Burlingame wins, Independence wins
Championship: Independence champ

Division 5
Semi Finals: Kings Academy wins, Carmel wins
Championship: Kings Academy (wishful thinking upset because Carmel didn’t opt up) Champs
