why Doesn’t SJS have an open division like most other sections in the state. IN CCS you can lose your opening round playoff game, then play next round and lose again , get automatically Seeded in a lower state division and still play for a state championship.
In SJS you lose first or second round ( Aka 3seed Folsom ) and season is over. Tonight A Franklin could beat Capital A possible open team and they are done. Same goes for Modesto Christian.
Southern section down south teams in open get 3 quality games with pool winners getting 4. A team like Corona Centennial can lose 3 straight games , be places as top seed in D1 ,and easily be crowned state champion. I think it would be a big money maker for SJS section to have an open

They absolutely should. They are the only section (with enough teams in that section) to not have an open within the entire state. They have moved almost everyone up into D1 (Modesto Christian, Capital Christian, Weston Ranch) but wont allow more bids to NorCal to come out of that division. They say it is basically an open yet they won't treat it like that. Not fair to anyone involved in that bracket (like Folsom) and it favors the lower divisions that all the top teams have been pulled out of which may be exactly what the SJS section wants.

SJS is awful....d1 is basically already the open with how they move certain elite programs up. But then they offer no incentives if you lose early and it waters down the pool of teams in NorCals.

Well to their credit or not everything was based on enrollment except for Modesto Christian, Weston Ranch and Capital that got moved up based on prior results. Some others got moved up also for D2 and D3.

Why Folsom always crying about something. They cried about going to the open facing DLS years with Browning cause he wasn't going to state and they moved them to dD1 so he finally gets a state championship. Leave it the way it is, stop crying...lol

How many d2 and below teams chase state titles? Are most just happy with a section title? Open div means some lower div wont sniff norcals.

While we say the everyone gets a trophy idea is bad we don’t have a problem with the better team getting more chances to win a title.... I think the SJS gives them enough already by putting them in super leagues where they play competitive league games with little to no penalty for league losses. So now we should have a open division that will seed the losers into other divisions for state championships. I think they should stop the other sections from doing this. It’s starting to sound like AAU. At some point we need to keep “high school” basketball ways of doing things separate from club basketball ways.

There is a Great Chance that next year the SJS will have a OPEN. MC #5 Seed Will Most Likely get in to the Norcal State Playoffs as an At Large since they take AT LEAST FOUR and Sheldon is almost a Lock for the Open. I think is CC beats WR then Sheldon and CC both go open. Which then They would take the next team knocked out of the Section (C. Oaks). So I think both those teams get into the Playoffs based off the At- Large Bids.

I also think Franklin (EG) should make it. As good as folsom is I think its hard to reward a team knocked out in the first round despite having to see the Monster W. Ranch.

Interesting to see where they put WR in Norcals (IF) they lose to CC. They could be placed into D3 based of rankins from Section and they would be a heavy favorite to win the State Championship.

An OPEN division would answer a lot of problems and make a lot of things easier.

Jesuit Most likely wins D2 and will be placed in D1 Norcals.

Central Catholic might win D3 They will be placed HIGH D3 seed (Norcals) or D2. And there is NO way Weston Ranch can be seeded higher than Central Catholic (lost 2 head to head), #2 vs #14 Seed, and High possibility that CCatholic makes Championship and Ranch loses in D1 Semis. Favors WR alot.

The NorCal reseeding 1-80 or whatever is the worst idea I have ever seen. Should go back to open and then d1-5 based on school size. The quality of teams and games would improve drastically.

I don’t mind the reseeding but I just wish they were better at it. Seems like they focus on Open, move a few other teams around and then just fill in gaps. It has led to some bad competitive matchups.
