State health authorities moved Sacramento, Stanislaus, Contra Costa and Santa Cruz counties back into more restrictive pandemic categories today, forcing athletic programs in both to recalibrate their chances of functioning this year.

This state will keep recalibrating through after Thanksgiving and then after Christmas. It can be assumed there will be a spikes due to fact that opening up will increase cases and holidays. State authorities are going to crush businesses in this state. Texas and Florida and AZ are relatively open and have sports and have experienced some increases but it peaks and drops and hasn't hit highest peaks. Hospitals have been able to absorb cycles and treatment knowledge and options has improved. There is a case for being outside and sports is good for that. Hopefully the season will continue. Opening up will increase cases (this has been a given) and there is a case for what is worse - destroying the economy and not opening up and destroying students learning or weathering this pandemic by taken precautions but continuing life. Movie theaters opened recently in some counties and 25% capacity for restaurants in doors. They will have a hard enough time surviving at this rate over the next few months.

I don’t have an exact quote but I thought it was mentioned an update on youth sports would be coming. I wonder if they will separate it out from other things.

If it doesn’t get an exception, then today is tough news for prep sports

It is especially tough when you consider that the cold, wet winter months are still to come. And any virus thrives in that sort of climate.

Texas now has the most cases and 2nd in deaths and will pass New York soon. Florida has moved up to 4th and will pass California soon. Arizona moved up to 11th in deaths and climbing. Good choices!

well take that for data

There are tens of thousands of youth and high school games being played weekly across the country for the past 2.5 months. Do you not think the fear porn oriented national media would be all over any story of a player, coach or an official getting very sick or dying? It would be on CNN 24/7 if it happened. Youth and high school sports should never have stopped period.

THATCH

Ignorance is bliss. When you look at cases per million or Deaths per million, NONE of your mentioned states are at the top of that list!

FOOTBALL AND SCHOOLS ARE NOT SUPERSPREADERS.

You are worse then the media!

young people killed or ill covid vol 1

Young people killed or ill covid vol2

plenty of documented cases of hs and college kids/athletes, and young former athletes in their 20s.

not to mention 2 NFL players seasons ended due to covid complications

and just google high school student death from covid, and plenty pop up.

don't say this doesn't kill young people. Don't say young people don't get it.

and not to mention how they spread it to their families.

i've given up on people, because I've learned, and am still learning, the only way to change anyone's mind on covid who doesn't take it serious, is for them to get it and almost die.

AND

we see how the nfl, mlb, college football teams, are struggling to keep covid from spreading.

at the HS level, I don't think it's about spreading it in game competition. I think it's the sidelines and practices.. and it's if 1 kid gets it, from somewhere, anywhere.. how do you stop it from spreading through the whole team???

HS teams aren't going to have the resources that the pros have to identify, isolate, and trace.

Log scale hasn't changed much at all in fatality per day the data shows since August (it's relatively flat in the state while infections up). For infections up, fatalities hasn't matched. There are a couple pockets like El Paso county having increases in fatalities. Lean to read the data. Infections up while not impacting fatalities at same impact. Reason to shut everything down? No,

Ivy League cancelled their winter sports season. The map is red as blood. Look, there are some out there that dont like it, dont agree with it and thats fine. Be well, dont catch it, dont spread it, wear a mask and get the vaccine when its available.

I’m not ignorant at all, my dad and his wife have had it along numerous others that I know and my aunt just died last week from it. She was old no underlining condition other than age. Schools and sports are super spreaders if crowds are allowed. And people like you are too stupid to wear a mask or care about other people. I get it you are a Fox News, Trump loving swallower but I care about the human race and high school sports can wait.

More from the flu which is worse for younger aged. Covid is not not even close to flu deaths for the young. That is a fact.

too early to say that.

we've limited the spread of covid by closing schools, so the spread is down.

there is evidence that long term effects of covid are going to be worse than the flu.

plus, we have a flu vaccine.

but, you won't hear any of that... just wanted to throw that out there for the crowd.

Your data is so far off as the poster below shared. That would make you ignorant for sharing something you believe is totally right. Maybe we should shut down during flu season as well with your mindset.

99% of Parents want their kids playing(with limited fans). The ones who don’t can simply opt out. Not a tough concept. Your views are shallow and narrow minded.

Please. People understand the dangers of this virus, however, they also understand that in life there are risks.

What also needs to be acknowledged is that our Covid policy has come at many costs. Costs that you are more comfortable with than others as they perceive ALL health and safety risks.

“In the US adult population as a whole, the incidence of suicidal ideation typically hovers around 3.4 percent. But this new study reveals that in October, 36.9 percent of young adults had suicidal thoughts, compared to 32.2 percent in May in the wake of the first round of government lockdowns.” Do we have to wait for you to have these thoughts for you to understand the impact of suicidal thoughts and conversion rates? I’m guessing not and that you understand this is extremely dangerous for young adults.

Thanks to the persistent virus and the months of isolation and uncertainty, we are starting to lose it. Not good. Time to suck it up, buttercup(s). This, too, shall pass. At some point.
Governor Newsom doesn't seem too concerned given his directive to cancel Thanksgiving gatherings for more than 3 families while he attends parties in Napa.

It also would be interesting to know if Newsom sends his kids to a private school that has at least hybrid learning while public schools are shut down entirely.

Not a surprise. Far too many of our politicians talk and legislate one way for the unwashed masses and then go in a much different direction in their own private, elitist daily lives. Their lack of credibility continues to accelerate with each passing day. It's becoming a serious factor in the struggle to control the virus.

.Speaking of controlling the virus, the CDC reports that California is doing one of the best jobs in the U.S. in that regard. Our seven-day case count was just 19.8 per 100,000 people in the latest report. California was ranked No.5 in the country for handling the spread of the virus. Only Virginia, Maine, Vermont and Hawaii were ranked ahead of CA. Other states of interest had these figures: Oregon, 21.9; Washington, 24.1; Arizona, 32.2; Nevada, 47.8; New Mexico, 63.5; Idaho, 75.6; Utah, 95.8; Montana, 100.6; Wyoming, 128.2.

I was looking at the data today and at least the countries I looked at which are not the worst but toward the top as far as infections, the mortality rate relatively flat and not at peak and infections not at peak. This goes with opening up. Had dinner at a restaurant for the first time inside on Sat night for a birthday and they said Tuesday they would be laying off most of staff and if it rains there aren't enough tents and tables to stay open. I just don't like giving up God given liberties to a government that will abuse its power if you give it too much. Seeing lots of distraught student athletes posting on twitter about potential for another postponement or cancelling the season. Not even about sports, if they don't get into the classroom, there are going to be a large lost group of kids that will be at a disadvantage in life missing in class school. Many aren't even learning now. This country has got to get tougher.

It wasn't Newsome's fault......The restaurant knew it was against his mandate and still served him......Therefore it was a set up! A page out of his Aunt's playbook!
HaHa - yep, he was set up!!! Actually he wasn't stupid in accepting responsibility, just weak suggesting he didn't know it was going to be such a large party. Come on - is his security team that clueless?

We have been enlightened with the sad realization that in life, people no matter what your beliefs, morals and habits are, will do whats in their own best interest without regard to their neighbor, community, fellow man. This means breaking the rules. See how much you can get away with. Happens on all levels and ages. People just cant stomach the sacrifices needed to be made. Hoping and praying for all of us to be better.
