For those of you keeping score at home (and you know who you are), Serra's football program accomplished a first last night. It posted a second shutout of an opponent (any opponent, WCAL, CAL or otherwise) in the same year for the first time. Defeating Valley Christian 10-0 and 17-0 in 2019 marked a bit of history for the Padres who have been playing the sport since 1946. And the Padres posted those two shutouts this year against a WCAL tri-champion. Impressive.

Wow - amazing stat

That is incredible!

All that talk about VC's defense and no talk about that Padre defense?

Quietly making history...

Twice, Serra proved its defense as better than solid when it counted. Maybe they have simply improved after the Serra offense suffered the loss of Mclemore. Hope its ancient history but its hard to ignore 29 points to Mitty, 28 points to St. Mary's, 21 points to Pittsburg, and 21 points to St. Francis.

Perhaps it was just revenge adrenaline in the Serra/VC rivalry, but we, as WCAL/CCS/NorCal fans, need the strong defense to continue to the far-more important games to come.

Serra landed the arguably easier but less prestigious DI-A round against San Joaquin Memorial. A home game - that's really good!!!

We've seen this movie twice before (Serra vs CS D-II champ). Neither contest was particularly close. I don't anticipate this one to be, either.

The potential matchup against Corona del Mar, on the other hand could be really interesting... although, it would have been more interesting if Serra was to be at full strength.

I'm hoping that St. Francis makes a return trip to Newport Beach next year.

Another tidbit — With yesterday’s victory, Serra is 30-5 against WCAL opponents over the past four years. Unimaginable success in those decades pre-Walsh and post-Swann.
