Has anyone heard if AAU will follow the NBA, NCAA, and CIF in closing the season down or temporarily suspending tournaments?

My AAU team’s tournament was cancelled this weekend. Organizers have committed to shutting down at least til March 21st. Also our practice venue has been closed. I’ve recommended to my players playing one on one in the meantime.

I think it will be up the individual organizers really. I'm sure we will hear from Nike and Adidas soon. Obviously, the April viewing period will be the first concern.

So more importantly, will the NCAA change how they handle recruiting for the spring? What about the home visits that should be happening at this time?

I thinking finding a facility will be the biggest challenge. The local tournaments have less of a liability than large organizations and school districts.

I'm not a laywer or a doctor (nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night), but that is my guess on the situation for AAU.

I’m not sure if this means phone calls/texts too, but recruiting as a whole is going to slow down if not stop.

Also saw SAT has been cancelled which hurts kids too.

As you may know, due to the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, NCAA Divisions I and II have adopted emergency legislation to establish a temporary recruiting dead period in all NCAA sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, effective immediately and continuing through at least April 15, at which time the situation will be re-evaluated.

During a dead period, all Division I and II coaches are restricted from recruiting activities, on and off campus, including attendance at NCAA certified events. More information about recruiting periods can be found at: http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/future/recruiting.

It is the discretion of event operators, nonscholastic coaches, parents, etc. to determine if travel/attendance is worthwhile or event cancellation is appropriate. Since it is unclear at this time whether future recruiting calendar changes will occur, ECAG will continue to process applications as normal so that if the dead period is lifted, all are prepared.

We understand these unparalleled circumstances are creating challenges to all involved in college and youth basketball. As such, we are committed to providing timely information and will communicate with you once new information becomes available.

RE: Update on AAU Coronavirus

As the COVID-19 (“coronavirus”) situation continues to evolve, the AAU is working diligently to keep our parents, coaches and event directors updated as much as possible. We indeed recognize the absolute seriousness of this on-going issue and are dedicated to providing the most up-to-date information on AAU events across the country as it becomes available.

At this time, please continue to check www.aausports.org and AAU sport websites for information related to AAU national events; updates will be posted here.

In addition to national-level events, the AAU has a long history of events across the country that are operated by independent event directors at the local, state and regional levels. The decisions relative to these events are made at the local level. We continue to encourage all our members and event directors involved in AAU events to engage with their local health officials and continue to be guided by the information offered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to formulate appropriate decisions and preparations.
